S1 Launch Tomorrow

Vegas yellow with black contrast, tints , external Quattro pack, comfort pack and a few other options ..

Just went and looked at the brochure and did a quick price up on a spec I'd quite like if I bought one.......... £36,800. :ohmy:

It's a great little car with some lovely design features, but that is pricey. Everything (including the rear mats) seem to be an extra.

On the configurator now and in the spec I would want (although no black tailgate as per the launch video, which I wanted) it comes in over £33k. Well that's made up my mind, S3 it is. Just need to save a bit more for a deposit.

wow a lot of money for a small car, I think if I was in the market for an a1 I would go for the 185bhp black edition, seen one locally that's 6 months old and £16K.

Its easy to spend £40K on an S3

Think I will wait for a while & see if I can pick up a good spec second hand one?

So tempted to chop my A5 in for one of these - will go to the dealers and see what they can do.

Has anybody actually purchased one yet ? If so how much did ya manage to haggle off the price ? Im extremely tempted to get one but the price is a tad high ..... ive spec'd one for £27500 but had to leave a few things off

LukeTripod87 ....did you get some PCP prices as thats the route I shall take.

Hi yes sorry for being a bit quest recently have had so much on! Well being in the fortunate position that I work for audi they will give me quite a healthy discount so here's the spec and price I've been quoted:
S1 3door
Sepang blue
Privacy glass
Optional 18" wheels
Connectivity pack
Super sports seats
Flat bottom steering wheel

5k deposit over 3 years with 10k mileage cap equates to £272 per month

Thats a good PCP price ...... I guess we cannot really compare it unless we know the discount you get? Im willing to pay £350 a month max for it....will have to see what config I can get for that. I do have a must haves list though ....and then a "would really like" list :)

Is there anyway of getting PCP monthly prices though the configurator? Or is it a case of sitting down with someone at Audi and going through the prices etc? I wasn't sure if you could get finance quotes online for PCP?

You wont get PCP prices from Audi online but you can from places like Orangewheels (who do very good prices)

Yes the 1st time I spec'd one inc quattro exterior and interior pack plus a host of other options it came out over £34k! So I went back to the drawing board and just put down things that I really wanted. Yes the best way is to do a couple of configurations print them off and take them in a keep haggling to get the price down. I'm not allowed to give the official figure but I was given over 7% plus the dealers official contribution of £400

The quattro exterior is on my must have list as I also must have those dark 18" alloys !! Think im going to have to wait though as im in a PCP and looking to actually make a small margin at the end so that will go towards the deposit. When do you get it Luke?? Wana see some pictures :)

Looks like it will be going rallying soon:

Just got an email today saying my S1 is going into final build so all going well i will have it by the end of May / early June.

The spec i have gone for is:
3 Door
Misano Red
Privacy Glass
Flat Bottom Steering Wheel
Super Sport Seats
Heated Seats
Centre Arm Rest

So excited to get it. Its my first Audi and will most likely be the first of many to come.

And after those 3 years you just give the car back? Unless youd have the massive balloon payment at the end?

Placed my order a few weeks ago, current build week 37 estimated... Working on reducing that!

Also have free servicing agreed if delivered before 30th June. When I placed the order the dealer and Audi UK reckoned no problem. This is also being sorted to be honoured even with late delivery. Will keep you posted! Note that technically the free servicing on the A1 offer is not supposed to apply to the S1 at all.

I just placed my order with following spec.

Audi S1 Sportback
Vegas Yellow with Brilliant Black Contrast Roof
18" 5 Spoke S Matt Black Alloys
Nappa Leather Super Sports Seats with Yellow Backrest Covers and Yellow Contrast Stitching

Packages;
Quattro Exterior, Quattro Interior, Tech, High Gloss Black, Storage and Luggage

Options;
Advanced Key, Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror, BOSE Surround Sound System, Cruise Control, Door Mirrors - Heated and Folding, Front Centre Armrest, Hill Hold Assist, Mobile Prep High - with Audi Connect, Parking Distance Control - Front and Rear, Privacy Glass, Rear Floor Mats

Post delivery mods;
Wrap lower tailgate in black (to match the press pics - this doesn't seem to be a UK factory option)

Things I didn't spec;
Alloy Gear knob - deletes 'S' specific one
Panoramic roof - expensive option that only adds weight (I have an MR2 for open top driving)
Smokers Pack - don't smoke!
CD Changer - doesn't anyone still use CD's?

Things I wish it had and will miss;
Adaptive Headlights (and there's no fogs to VCDS as cornering lights to make up for it :( )
Adaptive Cruise Control

Spotted a yellow S1 on the a46 near coventry today, looked lovely!

Definately an S1 badge on the front it passed slow and i have the eyes of a hawk when it comes to audi's!

As I say, the first ones are in country. Apparently Stafford have one you can take for a test drive.

What was your GFV on that deal?

Gfv was £11,980

The wife and I have just put the house up for sale and I might have to put the S1 on hold on a while I think until we've settled in somewhere so sticking with the A3 for the time being. Really jealous of other people who have already ordered! Haha

33k for an S1 lol. Id just throw £19k at a used good condition B7 RS4 and have the rest left to run it. Blimey

I've been given confirmed build week 20 which is today so should have it early June if all goes well. Fingers crossed

:wtf:

Given you're unlikely to see one on every street corner I thought rarity value would elevate the GFV higher than that. I expect the bigger cars to depreciate like rocks, but I suppose that's taken against list price of £25k, not the £36k you could easily spec it to with options.

Exactly - GFV didn't change regardless of the options I added. My final spec is £35k, with GFV of the same, at the time of ordering my sales guy did a quick quote with a base model to show the GFV doesn't take into account options. So at the end of the term I should get MUCH more than this for it!

I know that's the only thing that puts me off it is the gfv. Agreed one of the reasons for purchasing it was that it is going to be a fairly exclusive car so surely the gfv would be quite high!

Hi everyone, I am new here.

I have one question for anyone that has actually been in a UK spec car.

What are the pedal positions like?

In the early reviews of LHD drive cars, reviewer commented on the "poor" positioning, possibly offset.

Thanks

I checked when I saw the demo on at my local dealers the other day as I also saw the LHD review mentioning it. They are fine IMO. I reckon heel/toe should be possible and they're not offset wildly either way.

Would you say they are in the same position as a normal manual A1/Polo? (which I think is fine)

Yea, I've driven a 1.6TDI A1 and the Polo GTI and it seemed the same as those. I'd have been very surprised if they moved them in the S1 only. I can't imagine the new engine would mandate firewall modifications (they already fit the 2.0TDI in there as it is).

Thanks for the comments.

Another question, is the engine based on the latest S3/R/Cupra unit? With a small "detune", torque is down 10Nm, power down 70PS.

Or a remapped unit from the MK7 GTI?

Same basic engine yes. But it's not clear if it will have the updated pistons/cylinder head. It may be identical to the GTI engine (which is the same as the S3/R engine but minus the afore mentioned uprated internals).

Either way it will be safely tunable to 300bhp. The question will be if the Quattro is the same as the S3/R or down rated. Hopefully it's the same so the extra power won't be an issue. Given the torque figures are almost identical I expect the Quattro is the same across the S3/1 and R.

Personally I'll be tuning to S3/R levels immediately as I reckon that will be plenty and in theory well within the limits of the block/drivetrain.

This page claims;

This version of the 2.0 litre TFSI engine features uprated aluminium pistons, higher-strength connecting rods, a reinforced crankcase and an aluminum-silicon alloy cylinder head. The turbochargers run at 1.4 bar of pressure.

2015 Audi S1 Review

It does claim that, but the number of holes I've picked in journo's work and indeed directly on Audi UK's website (they had to change 7 pages due to errors I found!) on the S1 (and previously on the SQ5) I wouldn't be 100% sure. It could be the journo heard it was a detuned version of the S3 and made the assumption all the internals were the same...

I would hope that economies of scale mean that the new S1 will get the latests greatest same as the S3, otherwise they will be manufacturing both the old and new cylinders/heads which in my book is silly - but then again, I have seen VAG do some down right silly things in the past too!

Until someone gets down and dirty under the bonnet I don't think we can be 100% sure - but as I say, I'm not too bothered as either way we know from tunes on the GTI that 300bhp is perfectly fine.
