Hello.
My name is Manuel, I have my A3 Limousine since one and half month, and a need your help, (my apologies for my poor/ bad English)
Reading almost all posts concerning MMI Navigation Plus touch, I haven't found any discussions about this subject.
I discovered I made a big mistake not ordering Audi Connect option , I thought was not useful, but I was wrong, today I can’t understand why I’ve not order a Audi Connect option, (I have almost all the hardware, less…. The SIM slot)
Asking to my Portuguese dealer he said that’s not possible I can’t (I don’t want) to believe, sure there are a solution (hope not to expensive)
Any suggestion or recommendation?
Any help will be much appreciated.

thanks
Manuel

I don't think you can. Someone else may know more, but as far as I know, it's an option you must tick when it's being built, as the Audi Connect services are programmed into the car at the factory. They must be enabled in the back end servers.

I asked Audi UK about it (tweeted them) but no direct answer, just shunted me to local dealer. As Con says I don't think it's possible, it would need a new MMI controller, not an easy of cheap fix...

Hi Manuel

I am in a similar position was told the Nav MMI touch High came with wi-fi it doesn't . Looking for options too . Will be interested to hear how many others were told in car wi fi was a feature. Bit miffed to be honest.

As I mentioned, as it stands right now, it is not possible to add it later. It must be done at build time. The services rely upon information from physical servers provided by Audi, and you must have an account to access them. The reason for this is due to the service offerings themselves, which are not generic internet services that a mobile device would access, but rather Audi specific services, i.e. the wikipedia on Audi Connect is not the same wikipedia you would hit on your mobile or laptop. Think of the Audi servers as the ISP.

The retrofit, if ever possible, would need to involve Audi by adding the new units address to the server list. I doubt Audi would bother.

It's a stupid system design to be frank.

Having just had my MMI unit replaced under warranty I can tell you that they cost £3,000 to £4,000.

Mine was £3000 even without connect. So you'd be looking at a minimum of £4,000 just to buy the connect unit, which is then useless as Audi won't have set up any accounts for the car on their servers. I dont believe there is any way to do this unless it's built new from the factory.

Audi offered to swap my car for a new one with connect £2300 and a 4 month wait!!! Wtf

Not going down that route as all I really wanted was in car wi fi and the ability to have an in car hot spot using French SIM card . Audi in St Malo said I should get wifi with tech pack as did x 2 uk dealers! Car wifi is showing on my iPhone asking for code. Very bizarre and as posted elsewhere it seems Audi dealer knowledge is a bit behind Audi VDT !!

Are you referring to the "connectivity package", which in it simplest form allow bluetoth and handsfree mobile phone use?

Expensive, but I think if someone really wants connect then this is probably the cheapest option.

He would need to swap to a completely different car to enable Audi Connect is I believe what he was saying. Not paying extra for the system. Again, not possible to retrofit.

Yep, I was just agreeing that was the cheapest way to get it.

So, realistically all of us (on that situation) must forget Audio Connect, (or even other line services,)
Hope someone find a way, to go online, (not using Audi services) as they found for older MMI’s.
Really disappointed with Audi.

Sadly so, for the time being at least.

Think I may have been lucky then, I have a new s3 coming (couple of weeks time) to replace my 7 month old one. Added acc, adaptive lights and Audi connect. It's costing £11 per month more. I thought that was a good deal.

It does come with Wi-Fi, but Wi-Fi doesn't mean internet... just wireless transfer, it allows you to stream music/videos over the Wi-Fi but nothing else. It's a shame you couldn't use the Wi-Fi to data share from your mobile to enable the connect features. Even if the connect does have 4G it would be replaced in a few years with 5G and then it'll be "out of date". A new mobile costs far less and would allow 5G generation support at a fraction of the cost. Must be some deal with the mobile operators to eek more money of out us all.

No! I have that. I specifically wanted in car wifi hotspot for Pan Europe travel using appropriate SIM cards of course.

So you can see the wifi network on your phone?

My iPhone 5 is asking me if I want to connect to Audi xxx72 wi fi and demanding a code - very odd! Before anyone asks I am not on about Bluetooth , that works fine!

..I found (on a French forum), this picture http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/620555IMG3091.jpg, also this from a Audi shop site https://shops.audi.com/de_DE/web/zu...ccess-basis-kit-8x0051893-9?articleId=8649834, and this Genuine Audi Mobile Wireless Internet Aceess WIFI AWIA | eBay at ebay....
So it seems that possible !!! any one have more information/experience about these ..?

Interesting find! By the looks of it this will give you Wifi in the car, but not Connect. It says in the text that it won't display anything in the MMI, so this is effectively a very expensive mobile access point. Still interesting to know such an accessory exists though!

Advance car tech do a wifi kit for your car, if you add the antenna you can use it to track your car as well

If that's all it is, then ****** hell that's expensive!

Yup. That's all that kit does. Adds a wifi hotspot.

Just allow your passengers to tether to your phone's wifi. Cheaper :)
