Okay I've bought 1997 a3 1.8t with 163k miles on it

It has a bit of history the car runs well it's just had a full service

Would you mod the engine or do you think it's past it?

I mean deca,t remap, air filter that sort of stuff?

You wouldn't of bought the car if you thought the engine was past it .

Good point but then I never bought it to tune untill I started reading a few threads on here and I'm amazed by the power people are getting!

I have personally seen a 1.8t with over 200k, running the normal bolt on mods. He used it as a daily driver until the cambelt snapped.

So no the engine is not past it, you will just need to keep up with maintenance religiously ( we should anyway )

Also, if some thing does break, the turbo for instance or a shock absorber. Just see it as a chance to upgrade that part. Takes some sting out of it.

I like your way of thinking 😁

Anyone suggest a good first engine mod?

Remaps best bang for buck, but that will put extra stress on the engine. Best to get it scanned for faults first and make sure it running as it should.
