hey guys I have a 2.0tdi 143hp 2009.. im always on the motorway basically and got my belt changed at 65k ..

my car is now on 113k and audi phoned me up saying it needs to be done at 114k .. now im not being funny but if i got it done at 65k shouldn't it need doing at 130k ?

Sounds like they are trying to bend you over and ...
I just changed mine at 92k which was early, Audi told me it was 114k before needed. Replacement, (non Audi) says guaranteed for 200k.

Pretty sure the service book says more than 100,000 miles

For a belt ! .. not chain ?? thats insane a belt can last that long !

I know, I guess I would change at another 100k if it lasts that long, but the bumf that came with the belt says good for 200k.

70k mine was done
i wouldnt risk it upto 100k.
audi do say 114k same as my st3 ford say 125 like **** id wait that long
but then again out scrapper TDI is near 275k with never haveing a belt change or waterpump

I think that 200K is fair comment for a belt, but, unfortunately it is normally not the belt that fails in a modern engine, it is other things that let the belt down and cause it to trash the engine. (hint, check the contents of a "cam belt kit" - and add a bit for common sense)

I'd guess that if the service book has not been updated to reflect the first change, or the service book was not in the car, or they did not check it, then they are just assumming it still has its original belt still fitted.

Whats the time interval on the belt change?

Mine's just hit 5 years but only 40k miles so tempted to leave it a while longer yet.

In my B8 2L petrol 2009 manual quattro 211bhp I have been told it's not a serviceable part by 3 garage. Therefore they last forever..hmmm?

From Audi ...

"Cam belt change

The cam belt is one of the hardest working components in an engine. Made from a rubber based compound that deteriorates with time, it should be checked and replaced every five years or 75,000 miles – whichever comes first.

Cam belt replacement is a complex job, but by entrusting your car to us you can be confident that the work is being done by experienced Audi trained technicians.
You can also take advantage of our fixed price cam belt service at any Audi Centre. If your car is three years or older, privately owned and 2 litres or less, visit our Fixed price services page for information on our fixed price offers."

Yep B8 2.0tdi is every 75k or five years.
Book is too general, if unsure check with dealer or Audi UK based on chassis number.

I would be inclined to go by Audi recommendation and their time period. As mentioned above belts deteriorate over time along with them being constantly subjective to hot/cold conditions, a bit like an old rubber band that just breaks apart eventually - for the sake of an engine I wouldn't risk it personally.
