No lifter in ext valve???

i opened my vc to change chain tensioner
for my surprise I found this:

Why there is is no lifter there?

Because its worn away... that (to coin a phrase) is fu*ked... new cam and new follower(s) required at the very least

If its not damaged then no need...

Can't tell without stripping it but personally I would be looking to get a replacement head off another engine to be sure as there is no telling what other damage has happened...

follower bore could be damaged and would potentially cause this to happen again... valve could have damaged the valve guide... etc... This looks like an oil starvation issue so its difficult to tell exactly whats wrong from a picture...

Basically you will need to strip the head and inspect it for damage and make a decision from there... 1.8t engines are fairly cheap to buy though while a full head rebuild can be expensive...

Looking back through your posts dude I am thinking you may need to consider an engine re-build or replacement engine at the very least...

you mean bottom end rebuild too?

you had 50psi on all cylinders didn't you? it could be the valves but... like I said you will need to strip the engine to see...

You could take the head off, rebuild it and see if the problem goes away... if it doesn't it means stripping the engine again to rebuild the bottom end too which is time and another headgasket/headbolts set too...

Based on the issues you have had and the evidence you have presented I would be considering a full engine rebuild or trying to source another engine from somewhere... either way you will have to take the engine apart to confirm the problems...

Its your choice at the end of the day... you could change the bits you think are the issue and get lucky or throw more and more money at it and end up with a worn engine that runs... or you could do it properly and rebuild or replace the engine..
