The S4 build wait thread

Interestingly I've gone for Drive Select and Sports Diff but without the dampers. The reason being I did a lot of googling and someone suggested they are a 60k service item and they cost some immense amount of money each to replace. I too plan on keeping the car for a while so didn't fancy a several thousand pound bill at 60k.

If you're keeping the car for a long time have you ticked the 5 year warranty option ?,can you post the link to the 60k service on the dampers?.

It would work out at around £2k, has to be a personal judgement there does not seem to be a reliability problem with the dampers so, dependent on use, they could go for much longer. To replace the suspension on any equivalent model would not be cheap - anything up to £1k so perhaps spread over the life of the suspension not too much for the added benefit?

Guys!!!

Got an email from my dealer, confirming that my car is going in to production on the 28th April now!!!!!!!! and then approx 4 weeks for delivery.

How do some come so quick and others take an age, seems luck of drawer depending on when production runs are set up. Still May 5th build here, with 4 week delivery that's shunting it into June after a Jan delivery, that kind of wait for a mass market car sucks ****.

Indeed does seem that way. All I can think of is maybe the dealer had a cancelled order and I got further up.

Huddersfield Audi have been great though, the chap dealing with me has kept me informed and doesn't mind me asking loads of questions and seems to know his stuff when it comes to cars.

I have a similar spec, like you I didn't order the adaptive steering.

- S4 Avant Black Edition, Ibis white
- Drive Select with Sports diff and dampers
- Technology pack high
- Parking System Advanced
- Convenience pack
- Front and rear heated seats
- Super Sport Seats
- Leather door arm rests
- Tyre pressure monitor (pfff £75 option)
- Reversible load mat
- Load through
- Storage pack
- A few accessories

Seen a lot of 14 plate Audi's out and about today so come on Audi get mine built already.

Do you have to pay for leather arm rests on the S4 ????

Same with Super sports seats ...... why are these standard on the S5 and not the S4 ???

Base price on the S5 is more than the S4 i think, I guess the S5 comes with a better standard level of equipment

BTW excellent color you have on the S5

Ahh right gotcha .... weird Audi price structure then as surely the S4 and S5 are the same level ?
Anyone speccing super sports seats though, I can say they are absolutely no question amazing !!!

Cheers re the colour, it was a no brainer for me and partly what drew me to the car in the 1st place when I saw this video early last year :)

Does anyone know if I have to specify extended warranty at point of order (e.g. now), or can I add it on car collection day? I take it once I've walked with the car it's probably not available or even more expensive to retro-add.

I don't know but was wondering the same thing. Great minds. :)

I usually change cars every 3 years, but if I like this it could be a longer ownership proposition if it's good.

Only risk for me is with modifications (spacers / remap etc.) they'll happily take the money then pull out every reason in the book why they don't have to pay. £500 odd for 4 years isn't bad, but it is if they pull the 'TD1' card on you. I doubt they'd then offer a refund of the original money for not wanting to cover you so on the grounds of that it may be better to look into independent extended warranty options (or chance my luck). If these cars were good enough from factory you wouldn't consider modifying, but in the name of making them luxurious / making them meet green targets they hamstring a very capable product. What a saga!

I think you've got to spec at point of order best ring the dealer as its definatley more expensive if you take out an extended warranty at the end of the 3 year warranty period.

Thought the video in this thread was an interesting one for new S-Tronic owners. Whilst it's predominantly 'auto' / takes care of itself, like anything there are ways and means to get the best from it. I'm also looking to get mine mapped to remove some of the launch lag, raise the change point.

Think you're right on holding '+" to go back to Auto mode, it took me ages to realise I had to click the stick to the right to get manual mode, I just assumed I could intervene with the paddles when I wanted to take over (****** idiot!)

Just to let you guys know pressing and holding the + paddle does not return it into Auto I've tried it today and it doesn't work.

Interesting, sure I'd read that somewhere (may have been another model). Useful to know.

I'm going to hunt down a cab manual online and start reading the details on using it.

Thanks. I had a feeling that might be the case. Seems to be only certain models.

That should keep you busy Warren theres plenty to learn and theres also a separate manual for the MMI,also when you get the car theres a setting where you teach the car to learn your voice for the voice commands i think its 40 different sentences you have to speak so in theory the car will understand your speech, mines having difficulty understanding the word Faster:whip:

I'm still on for a mid May build - no change!! As for the warranty I don't think that there is a big difference in cost if you take it out at the end of 3 years, the main limitation being that it is not transferrable whereas if you take it out at new it is.

Don't you just press the pedal or is it that advanced in the S5 that you have to say faster? :)

The Audi warranty is provided by Mondial and is £905 up front - it is difficult to get an online quote from Audi for an extension at 3 years but there are many other providers who should offer comparable insurance either equal to or less than £905.

Just had another play with the S4 configurator. Extended warranty £385 for 4 years, £905 for 5 years. I have no idea if it's worth it. I've never had a warranty beyond the manufacturers before but then I've never had a car as complicated or expensive as an S4. I've always relied on indies to help me. I guess in 3 years time they might have seen a few S4s. Hard to know. Argh. Lottery ticket? :)

If you're intending to keep the car longer than 3 years its a no brainer it works out at just over £1 a day .If something goes wrong after 3 years without a warranty it could be very expensive.

You've hit the nail on the head ,an S4 is more expensive to repair and run than an A4 and an RS4 is even more expensive .

I extented mine for another year through Audi and was given 3 options, i went for the cheapest at around £450 with a £200 excess.

The only downside to that is having to fork out for any minor work but at least the main components are covered.

If your buying new it would be well worth paying for the extra warranty at the time, as it will be cheaper and even if you sell the car after 3 years most people like to buy into these cars with some sort of warranty. i think ive read somewhere of an S4 engine going pop and the bill coming upto the 10k mark!!

Yeah that sports rear diff has a gearbox in it. Can't imagine it'll be cheap to fix! :)

I watched a good video on youtube from an aussie car program that showed how the car performed in corner entry/exit with the sports diff which pretty much made my mind up in specifying it.

Also had another call from the dealer today and car still on for build date of 28th April

Going to start getting my little mods ready for when it arrives. Got the "supercharged" badges ready, need to get my air intake ordered quickly!
