8V S3 Tuning Thread

Turbo back though?
To be honest if you do quite a few miles I'd probably go resonated. I drove mine on the motorway for a bit on Sunday with the wife and to be honest it's a bit boomy at a constant 80.
I don't do many motorway miles though so not bothered. I'll definitely trade that for the bangs!!

Yep turbo back, went with black quads. My S3 has done over 5k already so bit worried about whether I could live with a full non-res system

Good work mate. Black quads look good although I'm waiting for some black ovals to try out on mine that apparently look more OEM.
Non-res is loud I must admit. I've got B&O tho so just turn that up when on the motorway!!

Yikes. I assume that's £2k? That's going to be a ridiculous price shipped to Oz.

Perhaps I will not bother, as it will be £3k landed for us, and that price for a Milltek system is a bit....stupid.

Anyone know what the polished tail pipes look like? What colour are they?

they probably added the "audi premium" to it - I bought a full magnex system about 20 years ago for £500 for a modded Peugeot 205gti 1.9 and that came with a lifetime warranty and luckily no stupid cat converter - £50 to fit too

quiet amusing that many state ohh my So and So felt really rapid and faster than an S3, The S3 being 4 wd keeps the car flat and smooth and you do not really feel that out right raw power, but clearly faster than all those old bangers you are talking about :)

Anyone have any idea on the Supersprint pricing? And any ETA as to it's availability? Again, not getting any response from them.

I've got my Shark box going in on Saturday, and will post up some dyno results for our cars down in Oz, which are detuned.

Thanks for that. I must have been blind and didn't notice the prices listed haha.

£1900 for a downpipe. Wow. That's even dumber than Milltek.

The box is set on the low side so before adding it on the dyno make sure you 1) put a few miles on the road with the kit installed then contact me and I can explain now to set the box up

So here's my before and after dyno results with the Shark FSR+ box. Power figures are at the wheels. It was a four wheel dyno.

Gain of 21kW atw. Not bad. The torque increase is lower than I expected though. Only a 40Nm gain. Not sure why that was so low. I'm hoping it'll get better as I put more miles on it.

I set the fine tuning to +2.

Don't forget the base power for us in Oz is 206kW at the fly so 165 atw stock isn't bad.

Running well. But still needs more power :)

Thanks to Andrew. He's been very helpful seeing I'm on the other side of the planet!

The 353ps produced in Germany was using map 1 plus 2 or 3

I'm using plus 3 on our s3

Yeah mine is set to +2. Is the 353ps at the wheels or the crank?

Is there any differencies between ABT and MTM tuning boxes. ABT says that: All performance-relevant measurements and parameters are analysed, fine-tuned and translated into ABT POWER commands in an extra control unit. And for you, this means maximum fun and even more safety. Even if there is a defect on the ABT Engine Control, which is highly unlikely, the original control unit is still fully functional.

Maybe MTM has same technique...?

Which one would you prefer?

Both very similar! I went with MTM as I associate ABT more with aftermarket bodykits than tuning! MTM been tuning turbocharged audis since the original S1 rally cars they worked on!

Are you happy with MTM? Is the character and 80-120 km/h times how much better.ABT seems to offer warranty solutions. Maybe also MTM for extra money.

I've never heard about MTB- tuning:confused:

I love my MTM box, turns the car in to a 165+ mph beast!

I'm sure MTM and ABT are great boxes, and can't knock them, but I could not justify the $2700/$3300 price difference respectively for what, on paper, produces the exact same power, so I went with Shark/Diesel.

Food for thought if/when you decide to purchase. It's not like the price diff was a couple hundred. We're talking prices that I can't fathom why would cost that much more. Dyno results are nearly identical.

Yes but the MTM is true plug and play with just one connection to the ECU (no need to get under car) using OEM Audi connectors, it removes the top speed limiter, and has a soft limiter below 80 deg oil temp. It really is a complete package. Will also hold its money better when I come to sell it.

I can appreciate what you're saying, but there's no way a soft limiter and top speed limiter, which really adds no value for me, is worth a $2700 premium.

I also prefer the fact that the Shark box doesn't touch the ECU at all.

Again, I'm sure it's a great tune. But there's is no way in hell I'm paying quadruple the price for limiters. The pricing structure of MTM and ABT is whack. Makes no sense how they charge that much of a premium. For me, down here, the ABT box is six times the price of the Shark.

Price was not an issue for me, so I'm happy :)

Quick question, apologies if this has already been answered before; how does Audi Select cope with a remap/tuning boxes?

Any videos of an mtm tuned car vs an A45 or old S3 etc that anyone knows of?

Or just acceleration 0-100mph

Can it be removed easily/at all by the car owner prior to service?

Just found that video on YouTube. It shows that the new 8v is as fast as a 8p with revo stage 2+

Well, I've gotten some pricing for the Supersprint system for us down in Oz. Just the normal TBE, not the twinpipe system, which will be more.

Let's just say I'll hold off on an exhaust for now, as it's quite ridiculous. Basically will be over $7k AUS fitted for the standard system. Easily $8k for the twin-pipe.

That's about £4k for you guys in the UK :). For the standard system. Twinpipe will be around £4500.
