Anyone had it done?

After a little under two weeks of ownership I've come to the conclusion that the standard audio system is a HUGE disappoinment.

I'd see if you can find a cable/connector in the boot for the sub. If that's there I wouldn't think it'd be too difficult. Probably cost a fair bit though so might be better going after market?

Have you listened to it wondered how much different it was. I asked re retrofitting when I was looking at options and there was a lot more to it than just 2 extra speakers, there was amp and something else from what I remember. So as agreed might be better going aftermarket.

I think it would be quite expensive. You'll have to take the whole dash apart to install the centre speaker, cabling everywhere, new pillar and door trims for the extra speakers in those where appropriate, and the amp itself which is placed under the passenger's seat.

A couple of cars ago I had a Vauxhall. Fitting the centre speaker just required you to pop the speaker grille off, find the cable and plug, connect it and screw the speaker in. If you were lucky, the Audi wouldn't be much more complicated.

It will take someone to go hunting to see if any of the cabling is already in place...

Thanks for the replies. I've asked my stealer to get me a price...will let you know.

This site has the B&O as a £1895 cost for retrofitting - B O Sound System and Speaker Upgrade Supply Fit Bang and Olufsen

I would imagine it'd be a bit less than that. If you take the cost difference from *** -> B&O off, assuming the options are priced on part costs only, you get about £1400, so that'll be my guess. From a dealer I'd imagine they charge a bit more though!

Ouch!! Sod that!

If you've already contacted your dealer, it may be worthwhile getting a cost just for the required parts and thinking about fitting them yourself. I'd be interested in knowing what additional parts are required for the ***.

Yes, I suspect a large part of that cost will be labour & fitting, which can be vastly reduced if you're willing to do it yourself.

I am looking at the drop down box where I see no A3 is listed....

Well I can see it with no problem...

Go to www.hazzydayz.com

Choose AUDI from the top of the LH column

Then it's the seventh entry down - A3 8V - 2012>

B+0 is the 3rd row - 1st on the left-hand side

Yes, there's obviously an error there. But it's listed on the page for the A3 8V, and I was only using it as a guidline for price anyway.

Dealer have stated its not available retrofit.

Probably just can't be ***** to find out for me

Try this address:

A3 8V - 2012>

It goes straight the 8V 2013 page. The B+O is third row down - 1st on the Left.

Yes I am doing that, however when you go to that page and click on the drop down 'please select model' there is no A3 listed...

And totally void your warranty.

Only as far as the part you've modified goes. If something were to go wrong with the entertainment system and your retrofit was found to be the cause then it would void the warranty for that, yes.

Perhaps they have decided it's not a viable option to fit to an A3. Seems silly when you have already chosen the A3-8V 2012> and then not to list the model at the bottom of the page. Phone call required I think.

They'd be within their rights not to honour any warranty claim on anything electrical to be honest, and I wouldn't blame them. Sure, if something purely mechanical broke which couldn't be linked to the retrofit then you'd likely be ok but then most cars are pretty bulletproof mechanically these days and it's usually the technology which goes wrong. If you've been messing with the electrics then you'll be on shaky ground and, if Audi are faced with a four-figure bill for a warranty claim, I doubt they'll think twice about wriggling out of it on those grounds.

Is it? I think it's the other way around. Mechanical parts wear out and get fatigue!

Either way, if you can get an independent expert to sign to say that your retrofit didn't cause the issue, Audi would struggle to deny the claim. If it didn't cause the issue, it would be against the law to deny you your warranty on something like that.

Thats what I thought...
