.......and now a Clutch Problem. Help please!

I had my car in the garage yesterday fitting my Mtec Brake Discs, Mintex Pads, HEL Brake Lines and new Audi Brake Fluid. Everything was fine, the car drove, and stopped as it should.

I didn't drive it today until 7pm, and when I did, half way through my journey the clutch started to slip BAD!

I know the brake fluid is linked/mixed with the clutch fluid, so could this be a problem? As you can tell, I'm not mechanically minded, so any help would be appreciated. (Don't really fancy spending £1k on a new clutch)
 
Sounds to me like you clutch unfortunately has seen better days.
Just had clutch done on mine. Flywheel £250 clutch kit 300 fitting £200
 
Isn't it a bit strange that it's just "gone"? With most other cars you get a hint, or some minor slipping first. Is it just a coincidence that the brake fluid was flushed yesterday, or could that be a link?
 
It's worth getting the clutch salve cylinder bled, just to illiminate it. But it sounds like the clutch has had it's day...

If its slipping its fubar end off, the more you use it the more potential for damage to the flywheel there is.
Classis symptom is 3rd or 4th gear mid revs, floor it max torque it slips thats it, get your wallet out.

Serisously though, isn't it strange that all of a sudden it's given up the ghost? All was fine, nothing wrong what-so-ever until I give it to a garage to fix the brakes?

I went out to check the brake fluid, and it was topped up correctly, but I saw this..........

Isn't that an awful lot of liquid to be sitting in this location? Could this be a contributing factor, or is it a side effect of a duff clutch?
 
That don't look like brake/clutch fluid to me.

you could change the fluid to orange juice, it wouldn't make the clutch slip. Its just bad luck sadly

Just looks like water lay on the old oily grease on the belly pan.

Agree its water, look how its sitting on the top of the greasy mess, clutch/brake fluid would have just blended in.
If you get a new clutch fitted you will notice two things, 1 how much lighter it is and, 2 how much lower the pedal bites

Going away to get the clutch kit ordered. Is there any common fault that can be fixed/prevented whilst all the parts are off? For example, on my other car, Volvo 850 Turbo, it's best to change the rear oil seal as this is a common but cheap fix (once everything is off the car).

BTW, parts around £450 (genuine LUK with DMF), labour around £200 - how do Audi charge around £900 without the DMF? I've heard of a mark-up, but that's rediculous!
 
2.0 tdi clutch and dmf with fitting Audi Newcastle quoted me £2200.
 
did mine myself, Clutch kit and dmf £400 inc V.A.T Which i get bk :)

£450 for dual mass flywheel and clutch is a Luk not genuine main dealer (Audi) if you got a price off Audi I'm sure it's a lot more. Also over heads. They charge £125 or something like that a hour it's a 3-4 hour job that's already £400-500 in labour and the price of the part. It's all down to there over heads at the end of the day.

Also I would let a garage do the job supplied and fitted as when I ordered my clutch there was a choice of 2. It will be down to you if the parts were incorrect mid job. But if the garage orders it then it's down to them.

Oh and order yourself a set of flywheel bolts as they are meant to be replaced when you change the flywheel (stretch bolts) for £10-12 it's not worth the chance

I bet you it was a quattro. I done one on my car (quattro) right pain in the **** on a ramp. Took me like 6-7 hours. Considering I'm a mechanic by trade and never done one on a b7. I had all the right tools as my collection cost more then my car

That's one of the worst jobs I done apart from a b7 oil pump conversion on my Quattro again took me best part of 12 hours (lack of info on the web so I had to have the sump off twice as I needed to modify the oil pick up

I had a look at a b7 FWD and the box is smaller the bolts were easier to get to.

Ok, checked, checked, and checked again that the Luk 3pc clutch kit, and DMF are the correct parts for my Audi, and they arrived today (£380.39, a nice wee bargain). However, after opening up the DMF, there are no bolts inside. Searched google and eBay, and I can't find anything about any DMF bolts (apart from for a Ford Mondeo). I've seen some suggestions that the bolts are already in the DMF, can anyone confirm this before I book it into the garage?
 
They are flywheel bolts. Search Audi flywheel bolts on eBay.
