Hi
B7 A4 2.0 TDi 170 Avant S-Line driver with stage 1 remap, brakes etc......so I know I have no right to be here but drove a 13 plate A5 Sportback 2.0 TFSi Quattro SE today and was really underwhelmed by the noise, the low down steering feel and the manual gear box (not a patch on B7).
I know the joy with petrol is at the top end but the sound was just insipid to me...tell me I'm wrong if I've missed something!

Sorry for invading.

Steve

your wrong, there, said it! :moa:
there beautifully sound proofed!
not really a balls out traffic light tear **** , but a gt cruiser! middle to top speed motor way car!

so what are are you expecting a 2.0 TFSI to sound like and S5 lol......................there you go then!

Good point......it's just that I've heard guttsier sounding four pots that's all and it had an effect on the experience.

The other noticeable thing was a fair number of squeaks and rattles......only done 26k so quite surprising!

The 2.0 4 pots don't sound great I anything without an aftermarket exhaust. Even then they only sound passable, never glorious. My S3 engine at idle almost sounds diesel like as its tappety, but the aftermarket exhaust adds more drama at speed.

Lots of squeaks and rattles suggests to me the car may have been apart at some point as none of the ones I've driven have had that issue. I haven't driven a SB granted, bit if you want more drama it's going to need at least one S letter IN FRONT of the 5 moniker, not behind it!

What everyone else has said really !

"what were you expecting it to sound like" ?? :)

As Warren mentions, I previously had a TTS which has the same 2.0 litre engine as the S3 and on occasion it can sound very rough and tappety but once on the move its fine, but even then the noise was not particularly loud or intrusive, even on a TTS.

So on a regular S Line 2 litre A5, the emphasis is gonna be on refinement and lack of noise for motorway cruising.

You making a positive into a negative IMO for this particular car.

The only thing I'd say is my cousin had a '57 plate S3 and it definitely sounded more throaty...but I guess the whole point of an A5 SE is the touring thing that's mentioned above more than sports so makes sense that the sound wouldn't be the same!

Boy did that S3 like a drink!
