Just had a look at the map updates section and found this as I know there was queries over the free updates.
I read this as you get an update every 6 months so effectively get first 3 years.

Please note the following two information:

1. The current map updates can be downloaded for free here and installed in the vehicle via an SD card. The download and installation can be repeated any number of times. The Map Update Service includes the first five biannual updates that follow the factory-installed map version.

2. Transferring the new map package overwrites the map package currently stored in the MMI.
The currently installed version can be found in the MMI under -> Setup MMI -> Version information -> Navigation database country versions.

I would guess so from what it says didn't say when updates were released.

Anyone tried this yet?
I'd prefer to use a USB disk to transfer so do you reckon that's possible?

Thanks for the info jongeddes.

I guess three years from now they'll be concentrating on their latest MMI software and maps, so won't wish to support older cars for free.

They are pretty ubiquitous yes... plus the MMI has no direct USB input anyone, only through the AMI so probably not as easy.

Under MMI System Update it lists DVD, 2 SDs and USB as sources. I wondered if the USB socket I got with Phonebox could be a USB source but I think that is just for charging only. So what USB source could MMI be referring to?

MK Audi told me I don't get any free map updates for my SD Nav system. My car is a 13 plate and I bought it second hand from a main Audi dealership, so can I still get these free updates? In which case my dealer may have misinformed me!

Thanks.

Anyone know if the Map updates include the newest MMI firmware as well? On my BMW I could easily download the least firmware version by submitting my VIN number and get a firmware update package I could install directly over USB. Have yet to figure out the equivalent process with Audi.

I doubt it. It's possible to update via SD card I think, but I don't know if Audi make it available for customers to do, or it has to be them that does it.

Does anybody know what the latest version of maps available online is? I can find the version number in the MMI, but I can't find anything to compare it with on MyAudi

I think the firmware is separate. I just noticed the other day when I logged on to my Audi there was an update for the MMI.

Just to confirm I've just updated my maps via USB. USB was connected via ami.

Did mine yesterday. Loaded onto an SD card.....now shows as 2016/2017 version.

AFAIK (and mentioned by local dealer), FW updates to the MMI are only done by the dealer and are not available on MyAudi.

MyAudi provides nav updates (maps, voice etc). Mind you, I don't find the updates add a lot in terms of listing new streets, roundabouts etc
