My Audi has been replaced and is currently off road not doing anything, so I need to get rid of it.

Should I break it down and strip it for parts or sell as a whole, make less money probably but much less hassle?

Have people any experiences of breaking their S3's?

Car is T reg on 150k
- B5 TIP
- Miltek cat back non res
- relentless dp/decat
- Toyosport FMIC
- LCR brembos

Bodywork is on quite bad condition, with rust in a few places. Had a new turbo on about 100k and rebuilt head at 90k.

That's a rough spec, what do you guys and gals think would be best? What could I make selling as it is now? Car has no mot and tax is about to run out.

Thanks for the help

Break it. Make them go up in value for us keeping them :).

If the bodywork is quite bad then you probably are better off breaking it to be fair.

how much you looking for the whole car ?

Yeah there's a couple patches of rust, would rather be completely honest about its condition than waste anyone's time.

Not sure what to ask for it yet, trying to see what it's worth to be honest. Would take a bit less for a quick sale though obviously if anyone does want to make an offer via PM!

Do they fetch decent money if they're broken down for parts?

I think your going to be left with a load of un popular bits that will take up valuable room on your drive etc. Eg how many people want shells etc.

That's what's putting me off breaking it, would rather someone hand me cash and take the lot.

That's the problem with breaking them!!!! All the popular parts go quickly an you end up being left with load of odds and sods:shrug:
I would think £1000-£1500 would take the whole car

Got a clio track car already otherwise would have considered it!

£1500 is what I was hoping for the whole car but not sure if that was realistic.

Plans are changing so breaking may be on the cards now, if i sold the following, how much do you think I could ask for?

Brakes
FMIC
TIP
Exhaust
Turbo
Interior
Westfalia detachable tow bar

Then sell the engine/gearbox with the rolling shell?

Ebay and the classified on here will help you grasp some prices on what to ask for on the parts.

All depends on the makes of the parts/condition of them and also what you as the seller would be happy to let them go for.

I mean a LCR brembo set up can go for anything from £300 - £800 second hand depending on the set up and overall condition.

Ive seen lcr calipers fo for 200 quid!! But your right it will very much be condition and quality of discs and pads dependant.

If you have standard parts return it to standard sell your after market parts then sell the car in stock configuration. You will make good money this way.

These prices are based on what I sold mine for and are approx:
- B5 TIP - £150
- Miltek cat back non res £350
- relentless dp/decat £250
- Toyosport FMIC £300
- LCR brembos £500

The car in standard spec in poor condition is £800 on price sites.

That must have been a while ago.
Downpipes can be had for 250 new as can the cooler and oipes (easily)
Lots of lcr set ups for around 300 on ebay
cat back price is about right

Condition and makes/spec of parts though dude.

A 2 piece disc set up can cost more than a set of second hand callipers/brackets and pads combined! lol

£300 would probably get you worn out pads, callipers needing a lick of paint and solid standard pagid discs with a lovely lip :p

Those prices are from October when I sold the car and my parts were in very good condition. You get what you pay for.

Lets not turn this thread into a classifieds ad please... its to discuss the pros and cons of breaking a car... lets keep it that way..

I absolutely agree mate. Just saying. Plus id always fit new pads and discs myself.

Personally if it was me and the body work was not in the best condition you would make money breaking it. I have just bought a second hand low mileage engine block from a breaker and i shopped around quite a bit and prices seem to be fair. People sell the engine and running gear for around 1k and with all your mods, wheels and interior you would surpass the 1.5k quick sale value. Have a look on ebay at some of the s3s breaking and get an idea on what they are pricing items at.

I was in the same place with my cav, wanted 3k for it and all the parts, a lot of nls stuff, ended up getting 2.5 for the lot even though i know it was worth closer to 4 in bits. As said though, break it, popular bits go the rest sits around, you have to mess around stripping the bits yourself so costs you in time etc, or you let it go for less knowing that someone else is going to make the money on it...
