Rather unexpected A6 purchase...

Very shiny looking thing :arco: nice, those black wheels suit well this color.
How you going to tackle door handle? Is pretty bad...
Headlights should come out nice.

Cheers.

I don't know how they come out, door card off I guess. I shan't mind that as I need to re-seat the door frame as it's still a bit out after the microswitch in the door handle was changed.

I will either replace them (if I can find good ones off a scrap car), or maybe wrap them in something nice and subtle.

The handles can only be removed by taking the door card off, looking at elsawin its a straight forward job to remove the cards, but you do need to remove the door switches before removing the card, I can send you elsawin PDF's if you need them.

Thanks, I have Elsawin, it's just finding the time and motivation to sit down and do it!

Doing some research it would appear that that part of the door trim is integral to the door card - unless anyone knows otherwise?

What are you planning to clean the roof bars with? I was thinking of auto sol but not sure if it's a bit too harsh, also my door bottoms could do with it.
Looks really nice I've only had my allroad a few days but I love reading progress threads for ideas of what I want to do.
My list so far is :-
Full leather clean and feed
Air con +/- switch stickers
Full machine polish
402 mod
Full led interior kit -- did yours throw any errors or are they all canbus?
Fit 55w 5000k hid kit, led sidelights and number plate lights
Find some new wheels I like as I sold my old 20" due to storage and the time between my A8 and this

Where in Dorset are you? We're always up to Bournemouth but live in Plymouth

Keep up the good work

Thanks, on my A4 I used AG Super Resin Polish on the roofbars to good effect. It's far from instantaneous, but repeated applications brought about a significant improvement.

I live midway between Poole and Dorchester, nicely tucked away in the sticks :)

Really good job on bringing the car up to standard, really enjoyable read. Some lovely touches too like the CD changer mountings. LED's really freshen it up too.

If I was nit picking my only question would be the is there a reason you didn't centre the rear boot badge between the plate and the light cluster (may be you've used it to mask paint damage from removal of A6 badge?)

Exactly that :icon_thumright:

I filled up with V-Power today, I've heard it works well with the 1.9 engine I tried it in my 2.5q and didn't really notice any improvement in power or mpg.

I did 557 miles on the last fill up, and the DTE was still showing 75 miles. I use fuelly to calculate my mpg, and the last tank gave me 41.8mpg this is ok, but I feel I should get better. I suspect it is a mix of 20-30 minute runs and all A/B road driving which pegs it back. The DIS showed the tank average as being 41.2 mpg, so it's not miles off. It will be interesting to see if the V-Power can improve on this.

Remember the ECU needs time to adapt to the new fuel (possible a couple of tanks), so don't expect any immediate significant change.

I'm going to install TV into the RNSd, this involves an OEM TV tuner (acquired) and a 12v digibox and aerial. The theory being I will be able to watch Freeview tv.....

I think the TV tuner will be mounted in the boot, I'm trying to source a picture of an OEM install, but haven't had any luck so far. I bought a boot mounted CD multichanger holder from A8 Parts on Ebay and fitted it today. I'm hoping the TV tuner will mount neatly in here.

Looking good bud considering you werent doing much to her lol

Keep it going, what a difference from the day ya bought it !!

I ran 5 tanks through the A4, I'll do the same with this. I drove to Longleat today, the trip + DTE read a fairly consistent 660 miles the whole way there, although it dropped to about 550 on the safari drive! I got it back to 650 coming home though. On the plus side, I didn't lose any wipers :lmfao:

Is there not an aftermarket Digital tuner for the RNS-D, or video input device, seams a shame to fit a TV tuner that will not work.

Nice one, is that your picture? I've searched high and low for one!

As I understand it, I need the tuner to send the video signal to the RNSd? Scott will confirm!

You use to beable to get loads of little boxes go plug in to the D for video input so a tuner was not needed but for some reason they have all vanished.

Byzan was the last person I know who bought one off eBay.

Would have made my install a lot easyer and James's.

No idea where they went.

No just I just found that one after a search, will take a look and see if I can find an AV input device.

Kufatec still make an IMA adapter for the RNS-D may be worth giving them a ring. If you can fit an IMA then it could go near the glovebox and save you having to run video cables to the rear of the car.

I've little to add to this at the moment, life is busy!

I got 596 miles out of my first tank of V-Power, with 15 left on the DTE - this worked out at 44mpg.

The last tankful did 558 miles with none V-Power which was 41.8mpg in similar driving conditions, so cautiously optimistic the V-Power helped. Will run five tanks through and work out the cost per mile to see if it's cost effective.

Really need to work out the rest of my interior bulbs and sort out the rest of the LED's, payday soon!

Placed a nice order with Trups to day to finish my LED interior upgrade

I thought the microswitch in my drivers rear door was playing up again, but when I took the card off it appeared to be a loose connection around the plug (how f****** hard are those plugs to remove while the actuator is still fitted?!) I couldn't see anything obviously amiss, so I taped it up and left it in such a way that it was working.....

A new plug might be needed:

VW 8 PIN & WEBASTO 1J0 973 714 or 1J0973714 Webasto Thermo Top V...Free uk post | eBay

Seem's a bit OTT but would fix it once and for all!

I'll probably just buy the terminal block tool and reseat them all first:

Front courtesy and map lights.
Rear courtesy and map lights,

Bulbs are all fitted now and they look great! I will try and take a picture later with my SLR, if it ever gets dark!

The only issue is the map lights won't work on their own. They work with the courtesy lights, but not independently. Trups says it's a resistance issue unique to C5's, and has sent me some different bulbs and a resistor to try, will report back in due course.

When I first got the car I had trouble with the electric radiator fan staying on all the time, I thought it was probably down to the dodgy CTS so I just unplugged the fan. It had also got quite noisy, presumably the bearings from being on all the time. I gave it a test last week, and even though the CTS and stat were replaced and the car is running fine the fan still came on. I understand there is a switch on the rad somewhere so I'll investigate that first. Car is off to the Italian Lakes in the summer so needs to be running right!

I had instant improvement using V Power Diesel on my Passat TDI James, usually average 40mpg, V power is around 44mpg, so 10% more. It's more effective for long hauls naturally, short trips is a waste of time. Without going through the whole thread again, I recommend you get your EGR valve banked off, that improved my mpg too, and smoother running, I've seen 48mpg everage(brim to brim figures) using V Power with the EGR blanked off. My Passat is on 214k miles btw, original clutch and turbo.

Thanks Joe, the V-Power was performing well, but for reasons outside of my control I had to stick tesco in last week, so we'll see what happens then!

Here's some pics, it wasn't super dark and I should have used a tripod, but you get the idea!

I personally like the red light for the feet. I think it blends well with the rest of the interior lights.

I'd agree with red if you ran the footwell lights in line with the ambients LED's, but I use mine for illumination purposes, so the brighter white fits the bill better.

Had a new CTS put in the front lower pipe coming out of the rad today, it was a different colour and style to the one that went in last time (Don't know part numbers sorry). The good news is the fan seems to work as expected, including half speed when the AC is on, bad news being it's a bit grumbly which you hear especially as it runs on for a few seconds after turning off. Might have to change it.

I'm sorry about the loss of all my pictures! They've all been binned off Photobucket for some reason, currently unexplained....

Life is still busy, but I've nearly had the car for a year now! It sailed straight through the MoT last week, always a relief.

She's still going well, and returning a constant 42mpg. I've got all the bits for the TV install, just waiting on a clear day to take the experimental plunge!

The retractable load cover came apart and lost its spring at the weekend, a common problem judging by the shortage of them about! It annoys me though so will need to be replaced. Also started looking for some cheap 12mm ish spacers for the rear to set the stance out a bit.

Might have two of those in the garage, ill get details tomorrow mate.Do they need to be hub centric?

Here you go,they are 10mm im afraid with 75mm centre bore, multistud.let me know:thumbs up:

Thanks for looking, but I'm after 12 - 15mm as they won't be hugely different to the 8mm I have already, plus hubcentrics as Joe stated.
