So my 2011 A4 has been identified as needed to have the pistons and rods replaced due to excessive oil consumption. I must say I am really pleased with how Audi have handled it and have had no complaints about completing the work under warranty. I just wondered if there were any other 'while you are there 'jobs I should get them to do while the engine has been opened up, that might loom in the future but are easily replaced at this stage?

I had aux belts and water pump changed as they will all be removed during the work. It's about and £400 job otherwise in the future. You should just pay for parts.

Glad audi are paying for yours. You should be fine once completed. I'm almost 10k since repair and half now consumed 0.5 liter over that distance. Will be serviced soon so I'm more than happy with that overall consumption.

-As the poster previous just mentioned I would check/replace water pump (depending on model, common to have water pump leak to be replaced after 3-4 years, very expensive in just labour alone if fixed by itself , so while dismantling your engine for pistons makes it easier to fix)
- Enquire also if you have the latest model Timing Chain tensioner, through out Audi in Volks for 2.0T had issues with timing Chain, causing potential catastrophic problems later, again saves you heaps on labour.
- Monitor your engine floor tray for oil/coolant for leaks the first few days after repair, as mine had a leak..very easy for mechanics/dealership to have a simple mistake.
