Dpf Delete

It's pretty much the same rule as a decat pipe and they still get through mots as not many can be bothered to search for the dpf as biggreg said he was speaking to an mot tester and they won't be looking for them if it passes the emissions test then that's all that particular mot tester is bothered about, getting mine through an mot when I do a dpf delete isn't a worry whatsoever as a £20 bung gets just about anything through our local mot tester lol

Lol lots of mixed thoughts going on here :) ...

Tbh it's like saying getting a remap will cause your clutch to go every month because of the extra torque..

I do think the dpf will block up after a time but not a lot faster than it would without a remap..

But cheers for the help think I might get me car remapped with hard cut limiter and get the dpf done after me holiday

Little bit of misinformation so I'll try and clear things up.

Diesel engines are pretty crude, throw more fuel in and they will generally make more power. That is why there are so many companies offering remaps, because you can change just a couple of maps, and the car will be significantly more powerful. This method works up to a point, and many older diesel cars continue to run fine using this method. The problem is you will get smoke now and again, not necessarily on full throttle, but a puff here and there, as well as generally an incomplete burn which isn't visible to the naked eye.

If this is done on a car with a DPF, then you will eventually run into problems with soot loading. In order to ensure a clean burn, you need to have enough air for the extra fuel, you need to control how much it is injected, and importantly, when it is injected. This is what the standard map does. In order to tune this way, many maps have to be calibrated and tested just as if the manufacturer is doing it. This is significantly more time consuming, and for some people just not worth the work because actual power may not be any more than the "just add fuel" method.

With a DPF fitted, you don't want to be any richer than around 17.5:1. This means you are limited by the amount of air your turbo can push to get this mixture. As an example - if your turbo can give you 1000mg of air then you can inject 1000/17.5=57mg of Diesel for a nice clean burn. Inject more, and power will go up but you will have a dirty burn that will kill a DPF. That's why removing a DPF allows you to run more power.

Companies that offer £400 DPF delete and tunes may have questionable remap quality. How much time and effort has gone into ensuring everything is properly calibrated to ensure not only you are gaining power, but that you are doing so in an efficient manner.

To go back to the original point, a car with DPF can be remapped safely IF the map is calibrated properly with a gain of around 25-30hp. More can be had if DPF is removed. On a B8 we charge £600 for DPF removal, EGR blank and remap to your request/spec.

Yes I totally agree, so what you are saying is if its mapped properly it shouldn't kill the dpf off? My quote of £400 is because I already have stage 1 APR map and if I go with stage 2 its only £50 so the DPF delete pipe is £350 that's why its so cheap, it is done by a very reputable company too.

That's right, if it's done well it won't kill the DPF. Unless it's the older PD170 engine - they are very sensitive and remap safely to about 185 with the DPF still in.

Rick

so.. say if i go to darkside and just get the remap and egr del but leave the dpf on for now as i dont have enough spare cash it will be ok ? how much would you guys do a remap and egr del for ? as you are pretty much on the way to darkside..

Omg !!! just got back from getting my car remapped an omg omg omg..

I can only say one word .. POWER!!!!!

Got egr panel filter and remap £230 :D

Nah but im part of a car club and we are going pretty soon ! cant wait :D i tell you what if it says like 190bhp im gonna hate it because I really want to hit 200hp :D have you had yours on the rolling road?

I'm doing mine this saturday, hoping it will make a big difference like yours :)
although different engine and different map

Yeah I had mine on when it was done it was 185 with egr delete which I am happy with except my clutch has started to slip now :( so going to upgrade that to a sports clutch and get a fmic on it and hopefully a bigger turbo and a dpf delete with stage 2 remap hoping for around 250-280 I've been told it should be 280 with all that and injectors :/ well see think that might be a bit optimistic but we'll see lol

On another note an Audi page has just posted a pic of my car lol got some great comments in only 17mims of being on

lol just wait till the old bill trys to find you because of your number plate spacing, thank you audicarsonly! haha

Haha yeah that would be a bit crap wouldn't it, well over 200 likes now and for some reason some people are saying its an S6 and A5 and all sorts lol looks nothing like an S6 or an A5 :/

That and being illegal because it's only allowed to reference the year of the cars registration (despite loads of people doing this).

Jake knows what car it is haha

So you think I should see about getting my clutch plate upgraded? .. And yeah I get that's loads because I've de badged my car people think it's an a6.. Silly members of the public! But you do have a nice looking car so well done:)

Sorry don't get what you mean by its only allowed to reference the year of the cars registration :/

I reg check anything and everything of interest haha used to be better as it said mpg and acceleration, if anyone knows an app for iPhone that still provides this let us know.

Your private plate can't be 02 unless that's the year of production, lot's of people don't know this and do it though plus (for this reason) plates like this are cheaper.

I also use that app but it doesn't always give the rite info.

I think what he means is your number plate without spacing would actually represent a car made in the year 2002

Cheers Matt, no stick with your clutch until it needs replacing, mine must have been on its way out anyway and the remap may or may not have helped it on its way

Haha yeah they do post quick! .. Yeah well I'm
Getting me clutch changed next week so will see what the price difference is of an up rated one just in case I want more power for the furture but next year I'm planning on buying a mx5 as a project car so all my spare cash will go there..

Ok well in that case I would say get the uprated clutch £200 from darkside, before you sink all your cash in to your new toy lol

Yeah I know it's not a private plate as such as it's obviously off a 2002 production car but it still cost £700 rip off DVLA lol its private to me though :)

Yeah might as well while I'm there will phone Danny at darkside tomorrow to see what he says and the 02 better be legal I want to get a private plate for my bday! Gutted if it's not

Apart from the spacing it's totally legal to put an older plate on your car, if it was spaced SW02 GUN then that is legal to be on my car it's just the spacing that isn't.

Ah right I see.. I've seen a pretty good one on eBay ATM that says m44t au I'm tempted to buy this ! I'm coming off this forum just makes me want to spend money lol!
