S3 Miles Per Tank?

No, just the Nurburgring.
After you have been round there all other tracks don't seem as good. I think it's approx 8 laps of Silverstone to 1 lap of the Nurburgring.

Yep indeedy.
Only do 2.5 miles to work, so short journey+can't resist the urge to bang on up shifts=aweful fuel consumption.
Had it since November and still only done 1360 miles! Average consumption according to dis is 21.3 mpg. Outstanding.
Just because the range says it doesn't mean it's what you get!!
Listen, you drive yours how you like mate if your getting 440 to a tank I have to salute you as that can't be easy, but really you need to boot it up mate (when it's safe to do so obviously) it's great!!

My best fuel comp reading was 43.7mpg until today when i got it to 43.8mpg. That was with a full boot, a full tank of fuel and a passenger too.

Wow, that is interesting considering it's an s-tronic. Has it always been that good? What driving mode do you use and is that mixed or all motorway/long journeys?

Just went down south for the week-end; did 450 miles mostly on M'ways; but did take it out twice to "show" it to a couple of my friends, they were impressed with the power. To do these miles I used 58L, determined by using the brimming method - 35.3 mpg which is very reasonable. The on board mpg is more optimistic at 36.8.

I am still getting between 350 - 400 kms (not miles) to a tank with mixed driving.
BTW, what with the Shell V Power preference? I am from South Africa (and we do have V Power everywhere), do u'll find it to be better on our cars??

It is mostly in efficiency mode on long journeys and it has always been that good.
My previous A3 was a 140bhp 2.0 litre diesel which i had remapped to 170bhp and on a long run the fuel was showing 74.3mpg and 790 miles to a full tank of fuel.
Who says you can't get Audis quoted figures?

I am only interested as I just can't seem to get 40+ out of mine doing anything. Closest I've got it 39 mpg on a long 60-70mph motorway run using adaptive cruise and economy mode.
Do you use adaptive cruise? I have a suspicion it's not as efficient as just driving the car as it doesn't coast when using adaptive

Personally, cruising along from A-B with ACC and getting 40+MPG sounds excellent - can I ask what speed you had ACC set on? Then, when the mood/road takes me, being more generous with the right foot (and the lower MPG that comes with it). Ideal mix!

All this talk of miles per gallon is ridiculous! It's an S3, not a tdi, use it how it's meant to be used!! If you want economy buy a diesel!!

Why should I? I can afford an S3 and like the odd burst of acceleration.
I hate Diesel engines and diesel fuel. It's disgusting.
Cost isn't an issue for me, it's more about choice. I want a car that is economical running about but is then warp factor snot when I need to overtake 10 cars at once.

There's plenty of time on the M3/M4, etc. when it matters not what you drive; you will cruise along at the speed of the outside lane (which varies from 40-80 on a normal day). If the S3 can give me a decent MPG whilst doing that, great but it really doesn't equate to me wanting a TDI!

It's not a personal dig, I just don't understand people buying a high performance car then trying to eek out as many miles per gallon as possible. If it's averaging above 30 it's not being driven right!
Who says. It seems like a dig to me. It's great you drive and get less than 30. It's great he drives and gets 40+
The two reasons I bought an S3 are 300bhp and hopefully an achievable 35-40mpg on my daily 90 mile commute.
Yeah ill plant the throttle but mixed driving should see a good return on the mpg. I used to drive 95-100mph+ every day but after a while you realise that you just look like a ***** and it's stressful.

Nothing to do with "eeking" but all to do with that dull driving with lots of traffic. If, in that scenario, the S3 can deliver decent MPG, that's a bonus.
I am averaging 30 and have been having fun alongside longer journies at or around the legal limit on the motorway when 35+ seems easily achievable.
The comments about Diesel are bizarre.. published economy figures on S3 are very similar to those of a 2007/8 A3 8P quattro DIESEL ! Horses for courses!
My commute is quite a slow one over congested country roads, usually average about 30mph over 25 miles. Getting between 29-32mpg which is pretty much what I was expecting.

I had the ACC set at 60mph.
Yesterday the fuel comp was showing 42.7mpg when i got to work, ACC set at 60 again.
I think the S3 is a fantastic car, great fuel economy, 40+mpg when you want it, 0-60 in less than 5 secs and good looks too.

That's interesting. I usually set mine at 70 so will try tomorrow at 60 and see how I get on. It sounds like that small additional speed could be quite detrimental to fuel consumption!
