We have floated the existing 330's Daz :)

Had a good day on the car yesterday, Feeling a bit fragile after Tonys wedding on Saturday (top day out), the perfect sunshine and shorts weather inspired me to get up and get out working on the car by 9am :)

I got the front up, and stripped the discs off.

AP 330 x 28 rotors on solid bells:



I stripped these down, and started to assemble the new 'Badger Bells' using the AP bobbin kit.

first 4 to check it all lines up:



And all 12 bobbins fitted loosely:



You can see how the floating system works here:



The disc is held on 12 bobbins, which are prefectly fitted to machined slots with around 1 thou of movement in the slots.

The bells are exactly 8mm thick, and the bobbins are 8.25mm tall, so when the bobbins are bolted up to the disc, the disc can move side to side on the bell by 0.25mm.

0.25mm doesn't sound like a lot, but if you look at it as 10 thou", it's a fair bit!

All fitted :)



Found the cause of my recent ABS issues whilst I was in there too, the wire had come unclipped and had rubbed on the wider slicks at ADI:



All repaired now.

And summer shoes back on for bedford next week:



At this point, Jardo popped over to say hello, and seemed confused as to why there was a cat going mental inside the car!



Eek! i'd opened the car earlier to grab something, and next doors cat lilly must have jumped inside without me looking! The car had been shut for 2 hours, and I hadn't heard a thing. poor little cat was going nuts! Thankfully no damage to car or cat though. Phew.

Took the car for a test drive and all is well, brakes are working brilliantly, with no ill effects from the floating. Some people say they're more noisey without spring clips, but I havn't noticed anything so far. can't wait to test them out on track!

last thing for the day, I decided to fit my new dual core alloy rad. probably started this one a bit late as I didn't get in until 7, but it's done, and the car is ready for Bedford.

Old rad out. Will be keeping this as it's only 18 months old:



View through the front with a big hole:



New alloy rad to go in, almost twice the width!



And it's in, almost no sign that it's there with the bumper back on, but I know it's in there :)

A post so full of win you did it twice :salute:

Nice work though dude, good to hear regarding the noise or lack thereof. I did some watching on Youtube and a race m/bike on there sounded like a train when the wheel was turned.
 
Road tested with the rad fitted. all seems good :)

Temps sit as they did before, just at 85-90, but I wouldn't expect them to get any lower because of the stat.

Fittings seem fine and no leaks at all so far, gave it a properly good thrash last night and all seems well :)

Roll on Bedford on Monday!
 
Man the 17th coming quick. Was this easy fit.i know its huge but any troubles?
oh and been watching a few vids and your 3 min prediction is very conservative!!!! Lol
 
Indeed, as above Bill.

it's a Direnza branded rad, usually sold for £170-200. If you keep an eye on the sellers though they tend to auction off one a week and they can go for considerably less. We paid much less than the listing price for a brand new one.
 
All really good, brakes are fantastic, rad is doing well, absolutely thrashed it, no leaks or steaming so far as some others have reported when they've re-used the old O-rings. so the new O-rings were definitely a good move.

Absolutely definitely run out of fuel though at the top end on full power though. it just goes too lean for comfort. Bigger injectors and a map alteration required. I have a nasty feeling that bigger injectors on our ECU means a whole new map writing.

Grrrrrrrrrr.......!!!!!!!!

420, not really, 400 would do nicely . Doesn't really need more power.

We need injectors.

This is not an issue. Suppy for those sorted :thumbsup:

Injectors need mapping in.

This is an issue! :keule:

Other things we want to do before heading back up to Niki for more mapping, seems silly not to do those before changing injectors. All very frustrating.

Bedford will be mainly low boost. it's safe as anything on low. just gets a bit borderline on High boost. Saw 916 degrees on the EGT this evening.

Hi Slepy, most of our wheels are 17x8J ET35 and all clear the 330's and AP calipers with loads of room to spare.

The wheels with the wets on are 17 x 7.5 ET32 and they also clear with lots of room due to the design of the OE TT wheels.

I refitted the Big Gay Wing again this evening, and I have to say, I've missed it! Looks good to me now :)

Just painted the splitter again this week to freshen it up, radiused the leading edge so it cuts the air a bit smoother, and added an additional 2 wear bars in the centre.

Bedford GT trackday on Monday, then I'll be whipping the splitter off and re-working it slightly.

Large plenum AEB based inlet manifold is still on the cards, along with a ported VR6 throttle body I have, re-working the FMIC pipework to give a left hand throttle body and smoother route, then a set of Dan's 610cc injectors and a larger MAF housing before heading back to Niki for a few map tweaks :)

yep. not surprised, and you measure post turbine also so its hotter relative to oe measurement position like lupo runs
TFSI aint all its cracked up to be dude re egts

EGTs vs lupos hybrid, marks tfsi unit runs hot........
I have lower temps and more power on lupo's setup by miles.

and you wont want to hear this.. Wideband ecu ftw!

I know I know :laugh: , wideband wins every time, but for now, I just don't have the time / skills / effort required to do it. It'd mean all new sensors everywhere, and some wiring which I'm really not comfortable with. I HATE electrics with a passion. black art!

In terms of power, I'm more than happy with where it is, I'd just prefer it to be a bit cooler, even if it meant dropping 20bhp or so. I just want it safe.

And all loaded up and ready to go to bedford :)

Have you driven the D03Gs on the road? I'm debating whether to sling mine on as it's my daily (for now) and my AD08s are nearly gone. Obviously they'll wear quick and will be crap in standing water but who drives quick in the rain on the road anyhow? I got them cheap so figured I might as well?
 
What a day,some interesting cars and always good to see a friendly face :beerchug: albeit on your *** at 140 mph on the back straight :)

Prawn probably has a dozen with me a blip in the background,I had a passenger ride and the handling/grip/power is spot on and also helps with Al/Nick behind the wheel.

What an absolutely FANTASTIC DAY!!!! Properly buzzing after that one!

It all started on Sunday, when I gave the car the once over, and we started loading up all the kit for Bedford:



We tend to take quite a lot of kit with us!



Then it was time to hit the road:



Big Bad Dad and I somewhere en route to Bedford:



We woke up to skies that looked pretty questionable over Bedford this morning:



Thankfully, the rain held off, and the weather was fantastic all day long!

Parked up in the paddock, ready to head out for sighting laps:

The clouds soon passed, and we had glorious sunshine :)





A few sessions on the 03G's, and I decided it was time for the slicks.

I was incredibly lucky to have Jonny from CarPromos.co.uk | Car & Trackday Filming Services along for the day to do some filming on his awesome new Roadhawk HD setup. Jonny kitted out the car with all his gear, GPS data logger, and 3 HD cameras. I'll get some more pics of the setup from him shortly.

We ran to the fuel light by about 11:40, with around 100 miles on the clock so far, so a trip to the on site fuel station was required for 50 litres of their finest 101 RON fuel:

The new AP brakes were working seriously well. Very impressed with these so far:

So, come mid afternoon I found myself needing MORE fuel, so headed back for another 40 litres of 101. At this point we were up to a stonking 188 miles on track.

After a Lotus (Lots Of Trouble - Usualy Serious) dropped all of it's oil around half of the GT circuit, the Javelin / MSV staff re-routed the track and opened up the south/east circuit for us to run for the last hour, which was cool! Seriously well organised from their side today.

We managed to end the day on a whopping 242 miles on track. Almost 3 full tanks of fuel, the slicks held up well and have at least another full day in them, and the car was beyond perfect. It quite literally didn't miss a beat all day long. I opened the bonnet. The engine was still there, so I shut it again, and nothing more was done!

Sorry mate, I missed this one somehow!

We've done a few thousand road miles on the 03G's, and I've got to be honest, they're really impressive. Wear hasn't been an issue so far, ours are still almost like new, and on a SOAKING wet Spa they held up really well too!

If you can afford to wear them out on the road over time, then go for it! it's not like you guys get that much rain anyway!
