My new A3 didn't have the folding mirror option, but I was able to get the passenger mirror dip on reverse VCDS coding carried out, following the advice on this forum.

When the mirror selector switch is in the 'left' position, the passenger mirror does indeed dip on reverse. However, when moving forward again, the mirror returns to its normal position and travels a little further each time. After a few times I have to adjust the mirror's position to bring it back to the normal setting.

Has anyone else who has carried out this mod encountered this problem, or has any idea what the problem might be?

I've done the mod myself to mine and works fine. Stays in dip position in and out of reverse, only lowers with the passenger wing mirror selected and in reverse and back up when I move the mirror switch out of the passenger mirror position.
All I could think to suggest is re code again, make sure it's coded properly and check again.

FWIW, mine has the folding mirrors and the dip function from the factory and it's useless.

I've lost count of how many times it lost track of where it was and ended up pointing at the sky. I just don't use it - wasn't really that essential anyway, you can judge the width of the car and where the kerb is after a short while anyway.

Agreed. The dip function doesn't really work. Mine dips about 5 degrees, so not very much at all, and to park properly I always have to change the mirror angle to much further down to be useful.

I must say I've never actually used mine, the reversing camera removes the need for it, but didn't realise it had these problems! Maybe a software update will fix it in the future.

Oh... That's £150 wasted then...

Is it? The £150 is for the folding mirrors, the dipping is an extra which can be enabled on the standard mirrors with VCDS anyway

Mine works fine too. You can adjust where it dips to, and this is linked to the key you used to start the car.

I optioned the mirrors cos I thought the dip on-reverse-function would be useful to avoiding kerbing the alloys. I don't anticipate needing the folding function as I live in rural Wales! If I'd known the dip function could have been enabled thru VCDS then I'd not have bothered. 😕

That's a good point about it being linked to the key. The climate control settings are also linked as well....

Wonder if you ever asked your dealer to check what the problem might be?

Mine is working well and even though the reverse camera is good - the door mirror dip function helps to ensure you protect the rear near side alloy.

Interesting! Off topic but I wish more settings were remembered per key! Like audio /Nav settings

Mine seems to work fine. I adjusted it down a bit the first time I used it and now it seems just right.

If it wasn't for me having to constantly play with the little round knob to put the mirrors on heat setting I'd probably leave it on the dip setting

To be honest I can't be bothered as I don't really need it - it just happened to come with the folding mirrors which I did and do want :)

The issue I have with it is that sometimes it thinks it's in the dipped position when it's actually not, so it tries to return to the normal position and ends up pointing at the sky. I think it's some combination of fiddling with the mirror switch and reverse gear.

Mine doesn't work very well at all. It sometimes moves around a whole degree, most of the other time it doesn't move at all. Have it booked in at the dealers for this problem and an issue with the handbrake release in reverse, which also has a mind of its own.

Don't flame me but assume those of you whose mirrors don't dip far enough have done the initial setup/calibration and set on the same key?

I have the electric folding heated mirrors. How do you use the function and how do you set it up please folks ?

Read the instructions or.... Have the mirror adjust know in passenger adjust setting, engage reverse and see what happens. As you reverse adjust to dip level you want and QED. You need knob on passenger setting for it to work though!

I do wish there was a perminent heat setting so I could leave my knob alone and set in the left mirror position !

I have read the instructions supplied with the car and it doesn't mention any setting procedure.
But I'll try what you suggest.

It's a shame the mirror heating doesn't happen at the same time as the rear window heating, that would be a better solution.

Right - I take it back, it does work.

When in reverse and the mirror dips, you adjust to where you can see the rear wheel gap.

Next time you pop it into reverse, it will automatically adjust to the same position you left it in.

Nothing in the manual about this, it's not in the instructions, and it didn't make any difference to mine.

Oh my, the dipping mirror has started working, let's see if it remains so.
