Missing Plane

Hi Guys

Anyone else following this on the news?

Very strange that a plane can just disappear like that without a trace, many stories about already, but as nothing official has been announced yet you dont know what to believe, not that an announcement would be true.

I know something like this happened a few years ago and that took 2 years to find, but surely there has been some advancement in tracking etc now.

My thoughts go out to all the friends and family that have not heard anything at all about their loved ones.

You'd think if it had blown up then pieces would have shown up all over radar as it disintegrated,as I believe happened with Pan-Am flight 103?

They apparently turned back into the journey, however, if they did this, surely some sort of distress call would have been made, if so why is there no record of it, the flipside of this is again if no call was made, again the question is why??

There is deffo something strange going on.

There is deffo something strange going on.

My thoughts on this are as follows:
Something went wrong, but not drastically wrong, pilot thought it would be safer to turn back and get it checked but didn't think to radio a mayday call, turns out something was drastically wrong and the plane blew up.

Hole in this theory: When the plane turned back a shout over the radio should have still been made, unless there was some sort of electrical failure which killed the comms, i would think on a plane there would be a backup though

I think when people start travelling on stolen passports there is something to hide . I believe one has been found out as an immigrant going to frankfurt. I think whatever has happened it's mental that a plane can go missing for so long and also sad for the families not knowing

Apparently the stolen passport thing is the norm over there with all the people trafficking that goes on, still food for thought though.

Still no updates as well.....as already mentioned in others posts, I cant imagine what the families are going through not knowing what is going on at all.

So I have been following this with interest.

Only recently have the Malaysian Military said the plane was tracked for a further 100miles off route. It's transponder and associated GPS backups appear to have been turned off.

My first thoughts are that the plane has been hijacked and somebody who knows what they are doing has either removed or disabled the transponder and associated tracking. I think the plane has landed somewhere. This is further backed up by the fact some of the relatives have said when ringing phones of the victims, they are ringing...

Also heard an interview with a US Navy commander that their radar and tracking is so advanced it can track a basketball floating in the water within a ridiculously large range (Think it was 500miles he said). A Chinese Submarine is also scouting the area and has not picked up the flight recorder distress ping which again has a ridiculous range underwater. There is also no apparent wreckage or fuel. Even if a water landing was achieved, something would have broken off.

Will be an interesting one to follow.

The only other thing is whether the planes systems have been deactivated and it was landed elsewhere which seems to be a strange approach to take, I can't see the benefit of that to anyone (can you imagine trying to fly a commercial airliner out of the field of radar???).

You'd think they could visually track this sort of thing with all the satellites they have.

Imagine as a terrorist having access to a plane with fuel. If it's landed on an out of the way, unknown airfield it could be fully loaded up with whatever and flown into something...

Its a fair shout, hopefully it won't have enough fuel to make it to the M4 corridor from it's current location!

Cruiser, its a bit far fetched, but I do agree!!

Disable all tracking technology, load it up and off you go to do what they like.

Also very strange that phones of passengers are ringing out, how unnerving must that be for family members.

You would need some skill to land a 777 on an unknown runway, if it wasnt a commercial one surely?
Does seem weird, its looking like a cover up (shot down because of a terrorist takeover?) of some sort or like said a hostage takeover, maybe to release prisoners or for cash?
they may be hope yet for the families??

Of course. All of this is speculation and we can only see what the Malaysian Government and Media want us to see.

Agreed it would take some skill but if something like this had been planned to the teeth then I'm sure all bases have been covered and landing such a plane would have been taken into consideration.

Regards stripping and selling plane parts there would be no point as every part is checked and cataloged and fully traceable these days (Used to machine aerospace parts)

In this modern day and age it would be near impossible to land and hide a plane on some 'unknown' suitable runway, between satellite imagery and tracking etc and also simple social media.

It may be possible but i doubt that.

It does seem like a bit of a fishy cover up though in that civilian tracking and military tracking had the plane traveling in different directions on the same location just before it lost contact.
Especially as the early reports show it did not have a lot of extra fuel to divert very far.

I do hope that by miracle all are safe and well though.

its not the first time a plane has been lost without trace, five US bomber planes completely disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle:

No traces of the wreckage or any of the airmen have been found..

Thoughts go to the families waiting news on their lost/loved ones!

Look at the left hand picture, the bag he is wearing doesn't match and some stupid line that goes across (convenient). You can also see a dark edge on the far right of that left picture.

I feel it's either a catastrophic failure that has cut some of the electrical systems, plane as turned around to head back and crashed somewhere. The reckon the transmitters on the black boxes only send a signal a couple of kilometres away. Look how long it took them to find that French plane. Either that or one of the pilots has crashed the plane deliberately.

I hope they find out either way soon, must be agony on the relatives. And apparently if a phone is switched off it will sound like it's ringing until it goes to voice mail.

Id put nothing whatsoever past the involved governments. I fully believe they tell us very very little of what actually goes on. For all anyone knows they could be involved, and know exactly where the plane is. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I reckon it's been landed somewhere and the pilot is in on it, I heard an interview with a close friend of the Captain who described him as a political activist, he is apparently the best pilot on Malaysian airways books with 25+ years in, probably the most qualified and capable person to abscond with and land a 777 on some obscure airfield, North Korea anyone ?
Warren s3, a fully fuelled 777 has a duration of 16 hours, plenty of time to get to the M4 corridor, put yer hard hat on !

Joking aside, there are probably very few of us who won't be on a plane at some time this year, my thoughts are with the passengers & their family's, it must be dreadful waiting for news, good or bad.

Re: an electronics failure causing things to turn off, Im an industrial electrical engineer (granted its not avionics but still my points are relevant) It seems unlikely as planes will have battery backups for all critical electronic controls systems (we do, & we only make paper) also a planes electronics systems are configured together so that the failure rate becomes something like 0.001% or more if i recall from college, which is pretty damn low. (I went to an avionic engineering biased college so all examples where plane related lol) I do agree something seems odd though, air france flight a few years ago went down in a bigger ocean and they found some bits of that within a couple of days if i remember… :/
