Just had my car resprayed in Daytona grey with a pearl finish (LZ7S) with a brilliant black roof (LY9B)

My knowledge of detailing goes as far as wash with a wool mitt, using the 2 bucket rule and dry with a drying towel.

I also use acid free wheel cleaner products for the powder coated wheels.

With the expectation of snow this year, I would like to know how I can protect the paint.

I have read about snow foam, claying bars, polish, sealant, wax, detailer. Is there a specific order? Is there a starter pack / brand people tend to use on here?

All help and advice appreciated!
I'm located in kent if any does know of any detailer a or has time to show me the ropes!

Jay

Thank you very much chaps! Never knew so much was involved. Will have a look into the links now

With fresh paint, keeping the consumables you use to wash the car as harmless as possible is the key.

Whilst Marks kit has a wash pad...don't use it. Not because it's ****, it's probably great.

But invest in a Dooka wash pad. They last forever and they are SO soft, all natural fur and they are made from offcuts of Bentley undercarperts.

I just went on their site and that pad looks very soft indeed. I'm currently using meguiars wool mitt. Will add the dooka to the list!

Got my hands on the basic protection kit from AMDetails. Came with AM glaze (smelt of cherry) and AM seal. Not bad products

Results: I still get swirls so I need to look into that but overall I'm happy.

Next on the list is brotek. :)

AMDetails stuff is very good and I hear very good things about the Angelwax products Brotek sell as well!

I really want the wax.. It's on my long list :)

I bought a fair few bits of Angelwax and it really is good. Can't recommend speaking to Mark and getting some Angelwax products enough.

I will be placing another order for a few bits later this month...

Edit: Picture after a coat of Dark Angel wax

I am still a novice but my collection will definitely be growing

that's how it all starts, I haven't been at it long properly.

My collection seems to grow every pay day.. worth it though for a fresh looking car IMO.

That's looks mint! Almost like a mirror! I will be spending more.. I'm already dealing with stone chips so might look into respraying the bonnet. Paint is only 2months old. :(

Cheers mate, only took a few hours work to get that kind of finish.

Nothing worse than stone chips, they are the bane of my life! My black edition grill has so many, it annoys me every time i was the car.

Yeh I have been looking a the website. Very tempted by dark angel wax after seeing stetheo's picture and also the clay bar.

I haven't used Dark angel myself but have seen a few car with it on and they do look good. Have used a lot of the Angelwax range and find them very good for the price and easy to use. Like I said have a word with mark and he can give you some advice on what you are interested in. BTW what colour are your wheels? Have the same wheels and like the colour on yours.

Cheers welsh. Pm'd mark already. They were powder coated anthracite. There were 3 shades: light, medium, dark. Mine were medium

Completely understand mate. Luckily for me they had samples up on the wall. Still took me a while to pick

It really is a great wax for dark coloured cars. I got the clay bar from mark also and that does exactly the job it should.

Glad you're going to try it you won't be disappointed and I look forward to the results.

Nice one mate. What quick detailer do you use with the clay bar?

I used the Meguiars Ultimate Quik Detailer, had it from my when I had last car and it does the job for now.

Post run and look what I have!

Thanks mark! Can't wait to try it out

Nice man! Looking forward to the results.

Considering giving mine a good detail this weekend if I can find 10 hours to spare. Really want to give the leather interior another good going over.

If i'm doing what I call a full exterior/interior detail it generally takes me about 10-12 hours. So I either blast it on one day or split it over two days, all depends on garage availability. I like doing it on the one day though so it's done and I can resume my normal life haha.

It's a really time consuming process but the results make it worthwhile...until it rains!

Thanks Mark, last time I only did one coat of it as I ran out of time but it still gave a great finish and added depth. It gave the glass look finish which I posted above.

I only have iPhone pics at the moment which aren't the best so I will wait until I next detail and take some snaps with a real camera. My bother now wants her doing, can I use dark angel on a grey coloured car?

I hope so as my car is Daytona grey lol

Hahaha! Well that answers that, looks like I've been roped into giving my mums car a quick detail..

Got to try out snow foam with the lance yesterday at my mates.. It is great as a pre wash. My mitt was sooooo clean when I came to wash it with the 2 bucket method!
