Ruddy typical -accident already - TWO days

I guess the only positive is you're using the Audi free insurance, so should have no issues whatsoever getting it done at an Audi bodyshop.

Bad luck and hope it gets fixed soon.

Hope the old boy doesn't try and worm out of a (expectedly) high Audi repair quote.

I feel your pain. Some **** opened their door on to mine when it was 2 weeks old, while I was sat in it! All sorted now though.

What's in it for them is my business!

I agree, and this is our only bargaining power. But if they have 2 million customers then you (or I) leaving is not significant, especially if they saved some money on paying out on us.

I can be cynical of course… sometimes…..

Gutted to hear but glad no one hurt.

Just on thing though. I used to own a Mitsi Warrior and never crashed in to anyone.

It's not 4x4 drivers...its just crap drivers! :)

I wouldn't do this. Always go through insurance. If you find some damage years down the line that was from this accident, you'd have no way to correct it if you did the repair and get him to pay - at least if you did it through insurance you can get them to sort it out if they didn't properly repair it when they were supposed to.

Yeh thanks. im going through audi insurance. I am only with them for 7 days, then M&S bank insurance from Saturday 8/3. Not sure how M&S Bank insurance will be affected if at all as ive paid up front already. Guess ill need to let them know anyway asap and if they try to put up my insurance ill report them the insurance ombudsman as that would be bang out of order - ill do it before saturday so ill just threaten to cancel (but wont as thatll prob put me in a worse position). ill check online tonight and see what happens before I tell them.

I guess his thinking is his car us ok and its only a "2mph shunt" (typical 4x4 driver attitude) that it wont cost much. Not sure what planet he is on. If I have to take time off that will be a lot of money anyway

all this hassle and I get nothing other than being worse off

true but the 4x4s seem to attract more and more and more as the attitude seems to be "oh im safe and stuff everyone else"

you only need a 4x4 if transporting losts of stuff/animals or towing or offroading - most people use to go to school and pick up shopping pointless

At least with a rear end there is no question of fault.

It does make me angry when insurance companies don't fight your case for you - that is what you are paying them to do at the end of the day! I have a friend whose insurance company tried to push 50/50 on to him recently, he demanded to see their side of the story and point out any errors in it (he also had plenty of photographic and even audio evidence of them admitting fault). Turned out his insurance company hadn't even bothered to find out the other side of the story, and had rolled over to the other insurers offering 50/50 without even the smallest objection. Needless to say when he asked for their side of the story they decided it wasn't his fault after all... they'll try and get away with doing as little as possible if they can.

I fought for a year when some plank in a Volvo v40 03 plate reversed at full pelt into the side of Peugeot 307xsi. The pug was amazingly resilient and he pushed in the door - my repair did an amazing job - he caused £3.5K worth of damage and the car was worth about £6-7K as only just over 3 years old. Funny thing was he wrote off his Volvo...hahahaha. he denied causing it and said I pulled out - after a year I gave in - my insurer were useless (Adrian Flux were also useless)

Still he upset the wrong person and I knew a lot of people in high places in the company, so I just destroyed his career instead as his management were disgusted with him...muppet deserved it

I ask this question because I haven't seen one in the flesh. How well do your red brake lights stand out against the red car?

The reason I ask is that when I was a yoof the old man had a brand new red XR4 and we got hit three times in the two years we owned it. The first bloke who hit us was hugely apologetic said as the car was so glossy red he struggled to see the brake lights contrasting against the car. My old man had a few choice words in response to this, but back then lights were rubbish compared to LEDs.

I don't doubt some drivers are just careless, but it's always made me wonder whether cars with paint colours that have a strong colour contrast are easy for the average mouth breather to identify.

2nd day of owning my current S3 a 'tard in an ancient Focus decided my car looked better without it's driver mirror. We sat at standstill seeing it was happening but I couldn't get to the switch quickly enough to fold it in. I was absolutely f*****g steaming, especially as the woman who was driving wouldn't get out of the car and talk to me so her passenger got out and tried to negotiate it as a 50/50. I doubt their car cost what it cost to replace the wing mirror (it's folding and has heated / dimming glass etc.), but it was the careless / carefree nature that these people have when they do it. I know it wasn't life or death (on this occasion), but it's easy for them to be flippant and try and play it down when your cars not worth much more than a decent coat. In the end I got it sorted through insurance, but the woman couldn't even look me in the face let alone own up. One word, but as it's a public forum I'll refrain from saying it.

So sorry for you with what's happened, it's awful when your pride and joy gets damaged within a couple of days. Just glad the damage to the car is not more extensive and that you are OK. People eh :eiertritt:

I've never seen more motorists than I have of late on phones / looking in footwell / doing anything other than concentrating on driving. Put them all in room 101.

I totally agree, some people seem to do everything but actually drive their ****** car.
I see people on Facebook while their driving along (you can see a lot more when you own a van) and the amount of people who come through junctions with their phone to their ear not knowing who or what is on the other side., could be plain clothes police but that doesn't seem to worry them. Makes my blood boil !!!

I will risk being flamed and having my career shot to flames but this is a total over reaction. What a nice person you appear to be, No one deserves to have their career ruined over a £3k prang, what was the price for his life £5k..........respect -1

There are some lovely people on the roads. I was rear ended in one of the "nicer" parts of London a few years back. When the other driver got out of his car it was immediately obvious he had been smoking cigarettes with something other than tobacco in them. He first tried to claim there was no damage (clearly there was), then got a dog out of the car and started waving it around at me. Just as I was getting ready to call the Police he saw sense and handed over his insurance details...

The guy sounds like he had no honesty, decency or morals. You are right he should be a company manager, may be a top banker.

If I were you Id get the car done on insurance.

I had an old Rover which was rear ended. Damage behind the bumper was more than I thought from the outside, dent in the boot floor, broken under plate next to petrol tank. The way a car moves the energy around to protect the people inside can be pretty impressive. And something worth getting checked out.

Also loan car and warranty etc etc on a brand new car just dont make it worth the hassle of doing it privately.

So I'm gutted for your car! It's a real pain in the ***! I put mine on a verge at 2 months old with only 2k on the clock so I feel your pain. Hope it get sorted soon.

Only thing I can not follow you on is bad 4x4 drivers!!!! I've had 9-10 landrovers new and old! Never had an accident! Never hit anyone or anything. 1st accident was in my a3!! Oh and last time I checked the S3 is 4x4 so it seems you join the motley crew of imbeciles. One brush pal, they are your rules too!!

👍

Richyboyp - when you had your "off" and triggered the bonnet pedestrian protection - was the position "resettable", and did they have to change any components to get it back to an un-triggered state?

I'm pretty sure the hinges were changed. Someone on here said it's a case of pushing them back down but I recall seeing a new set when I was at the repair garage. They did have to reset the airbag light though. :)

You can reset them by pushing them back down (it explains how in the manual) but they are a single use component that has to be changed before they will work again.

I presume it can't tell the difference between a pedestrian, and say a snow bank?

So if you did accidentally drive into a snow bank, bang, and you're out of pocket for some new pyrotechnic hinges?!

(It could be easily done, icy car park, misjudge approach speed into space, stand on brakes, ABS on, bang)

Boo! Does appear that way! But I guess you could get the light reset then not worry about them :)

Lost my rag when it happened but guy was very old so had yo calm down quick. He must have been mid 60s I guess.

I would have called the Police and got them to do an eye sight test on the OLD GUY, was he fit to drive???????

Sounds like you should change your route, you've had two close shaves and one accident already in this car and sounds like you've had a few previous accidents too.
In 19 years of driving I've only ever had contact with another car once (no 4x4 involved) and can't recall many close shaves either.

It's annoying, but these things happen with all drivers of all ages and all types of car (despite your sweeping generalisation with regards 4x4), just be thankful no one was hurt.

Saw the audi approved repairer at my audi dealer and reckons it'll need a new bumper and tailgate at least. Might need more when they dismantle it bexcellent thought it shouldn't need more.

I have a black view 500 camera in my old car which will go in the s3. I'll also put one on the tailgate when the repair has been done

The camera is excellent. Pic quality is near goto level but it's better as the 500 model has

motion sensors that auto record events
Wifi
Bluetooth
Gps
Parking mode with optional extra module... Works on a pir motion basis

Near misses are in different places. I guess I'm more observant than you. I can a running commentary like the advanced police drivers do. I've had no fault accidents in 25.5 years and my only one fault accident 26 years ago 2 months after getting my first car and passing my test

I live in Berkshire and one of the busiest areas in UK so chances of accidents and near misses is worse than london

What!!!!!

It wasn't an over reaction. The guy who hit my car was a prize A tool. Took a year of battling... It was done in a company car park. If he hit a pedestrian he would have killed them..100% certain.. . I was in the car when he did it. If he isn't honest then he deserved it 100%.

It is a sad reflection on life that people think it's fine to be dishonest

Well maybe what goes around comes around.......over reaction overload...remind me to to accidently tread on your toe in the pub as you might think it appropriate to try and break my jaw which would mean I would have to shoot you with the gun I am carry in my jacket for such occasions....for god sake grow up!!!!

no way does £3K deserve a ruined career as retribution

On this point I do agree with RoyalSteve. I have lost count of the number of times around here that I have been cut up or have to take avoiding action because someone else decides they have a right to the piece of Tarmac I am currently on. Usually BMWs, Mercs, some Audis and true 4x4.

It's worse here than other parts of the country.

That's why I got my RoadHawk and have a collection of special events that I should really put up on YouTube or something.

Just passing my opinion, and showing how overreaction could backfire, happy to hear why you think I am "bang out of order" via private message as not sure the rest of the forum would be interested.

I don't think he is actually. He's right - attempting to destroy someone's career and life is a pathetic and vindictive overreaction to a damaged car.
