So I ordered an audi a3 back in November but didn't add the audi sound system upgrade or the bose upgrade.

does anyone have the standard system? If so is it alright?

I collect it on Thursday and will consider having after market speakers fitted if needed.

I have it and I love my music loud. It's loud enough if you casually like to listen to a few tracks. Having aftermarket speakers is possible but your going to have to find adapters or the exact fitment so they fit in the speaker holes. The only downside to using that option is that the mmi will not be able to control the equaliser. I'm looking to source a full set of B&O from eBay.de. It's going to cost a bit but once I get it fitted it will hopefully be like factory fitted. Of course minus a few components like the led strip lights and the rear pillar speakers.

No Bose! Having done a few miles now the B&O is as expected . Superb ! But with an S 3 listening to the engine /exhaust noise is music to my ears !

That will definitely cheer him up !

Got to agree with Anarch here.

Pilot - Flashing your S3 with B&O to the OPs A3 with standard that he collects on Thursday is a pretty poor thing to do. Respect -1

You won't get an immediate reply - he's off to France, to enjoy the socialist government, highly regulated industry, and fcuked economy!!!

I've just picked up a new A3 SB with standard stereo/ speakers and think it sounds okay. Having come from an A3 Black Edition with Bose, the lack of deep base is noticeable, but you do have the option to tweak the base and treble.

I would hear it yourself and then make a decision. Having read other peoples comments about the B&O system, I am envious of not getting it, but more than happy with the standard setup.

Mines standard, not a big deal for me as it's just a background thing. It's as good as any factory standard system I've ever had but many have spoilt themselves and now can't be without the upgrade. As with most options it's personal but I haven't given it a thought since picking the car up. It certainly has no reflection on just how good this car is.

I wondered why PilotAudi liked France. I should have realised. Personally I much prefer Germany. Will be taking my new 8V back to it's 'homeland' later in the year.

I hope his shed stayed on the roof of his S3 OK.

I have the standard and I really like it, in fact the best I've had in a car. I've owned brand new Fiesta's, Focus's, Punto's and Yaris's. All different classes of car agreed. But that's my thoughts.

My thinking was I'd rather spec options to add things the car didn't have rather than upgrade what is already there

I have the standard audio too. I find it just fine although most of my listening is just BBC Hereford and Worcester. It seems to me to be rather pointless having a true hi-fi in a car. The ambient noise level precludes the appreciation of the dynamic audio range of any music being played. Instead, I think it better to have an expensive hi-fi at home where you can appreciate it and a standard audio in the car.
I guess I'm of an age now where I don't want thump thump thump thump as I drive along. I hear enough of that from passing cars as I walk along the side of the roads.

Although the standard system isn't quite as good as the Sony system with the premium speakers as fitted to my focus it is fine for casual listening. Which is all I do...
