2013 Audi S3

Spray the centre caps aswel! Just my opinion mind.

The centre caps were sprayed black from the standard grey, thought there would be too much red IMO, so only got the Audi Rings and chrome surrounds done.

The car looks fab - thought mine was stealth!!

Nice detail! Mine lasted about 10 mins then it rained!

Thanks  Yeah really loving this stealth look, had the day off work, so thought I may aswell do the beast justice and give it a good detail! Have you racked up many miles since the weekend?

I've only done about 300, that's from driving back from dealer and then to work this morning!

Cycling to work this week so no more driving till Friday.

A few first impressions....

The led headlights are sensational. Excellent penetration on full beam and great spread on dipped. Nice colour of light too. Very white natural hue.

Stronic is superb. Auto mode seems the most intelligent.

Start stop is intrusive and a pain at junctions.

Brakes are good and very progressive. Abs is excellent, tested already.

Fuel consumption is crap. Average is 17.8mpg but I am using it as intended.

Continentals in the dry seem fine, but the spring rate is tuned for comfort and not turn in bite....

Steering feedback non existent. Turn in and hope it will grip. Biggest flaw of th car IMHO.

As a package though seems great. Super sport seats are like a limousine in comfort terms, really impressive.

Mmi and the whole tech pack will rake a while to fully exploit.

And finally for now, the b&o sounds awesome playing tron by daft punk. Great album for demonstrating the b&o....

+1, it's hateful. I understand why it's there but wish it could be turned off permanently. Sort of thing you'd accept in a Prius, not an S3!

If anyone does want to turn it off permanently I think it can be done using VCDS or if anyone would rather not play around with the settings there is a module available for £30 from Kufatec which just plugs in to the OBD port. Here are the details:

Coding interface disable start / stop MQB-40019

Important question

What does it state your cars description as on your insurance document? Mine says Audi A3 S3 tfsi 1984cc 2013- (this is what there system came up with after I gave them my Reg)

Now today when I was searching for new insurance that would account for my mods, a few insurance companies called it Audi S3 fsi T Quattro and those quotes were about twice as much.

What is going on??? What does it say on everyone elses insurance documents?

The 2nd one you've quoted ie the Quattro is for the old model some quote sites show 2004 - 2013 as you could still get the old model on 62 reg but 2013- A3 S3 Tfsi 2013 is the correct one - I'm an insurance broker and when i ran a quote using the Demo's reg no it pulled the old model through

Hopefully if quoting a 2014 year of make it will choose the correct model now anyway

So you've got the correct quote ironic that the old model is quoting more considering how much more responsive the new model is

Cheers for that, it is dodgy though as further down the document it just describes the car as an Audi A3 no mention of S3 unlike further up the document.

Im confident its right though as like you say its down as Audi A3 S3 tfsi and I gave them my reg and all the other vehicle details were spot on.

But insurance companies love riggling out of paying up if the worst happens.

Ain't that the truth but from what you've said your docs are correct and that's definitely the correct model

My S3 played up tonight. Had it in dynamic & manual mode (s-tronic) took off from the lights and went to up shift with the paddles when the revs were high. Anyway think the stronic wanted to shift at the same time... Result was the car didn't find a gear at all! Was like driving a manual and screwing up a gear change. Was left at 80kmPH with no car in gear. Took me a couple of seconds to get it back in gear by trying the paddles again.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Interesting...I had a similar incident (twice ) but on Efficiency mode not driving hard. It happened both times on pullaway, mid first gear, where it seemed the car suddenly went into Neutral (like pushing the clutch it while accelerating), until the car like 'reselected' the gear before continuing on it merry way...

I am only on 1000kms so far but this hasn't happened for the last 300kms ...will monitor...

I'm inside the first 1000kms also. Will see if it happens again, and run it past Audi when I pop in soon.

I went for the manual as I prefer them but also my friend is a master tech and S-Tronic's are notorius for playing up but usually after 20,000 miles and in stop/start traffic - Software might just need resetting

DSG in Eco mode - yes, the car does deselect the gear and run it in "coasting" mode (neutral), so I would expect a delay when it reselects a gear to get out of neutral. Eco mode will also do other stuff like turn off the air con compressor etc, to save fuel.

Re finding a false neutral while manually shifting - I have heard of this, it's more common on the downshifts rather than the upshifts, say you're slowing down, the DSG box automatically downshifts for you from 5 to 4, but at precisely the same moment you pull the downshift paddle or stick, it thinks you're asking for a double downshift, so tries to give you 5 to 3. But as 5 and 3 are on the same shaft it can't do a shaft clutch swop, so has to deselect 5 and engage 3, all of which takes a little over a second, and in that time you are not in a gear.

Can't see why it won't happen on the upshifts it tries to shift from 3 to 4, but you manually upshift at precisely the exact moment, so it tries to give you a double upshift 3 to 5, but again, those gears are on the same shaft, so there is a delay while it sorts that out.

As standard, even though you are in M the box will upshift at red line /max torque (depending which gear you are in) so it is possible there was a double shift request going on.

The question though is, can you try and reproduce it, and does it eventually give you a gear without you having to give it an additional command, like pull the paddle, pull/push the stick, or change from D/S ?

Will try and reproduce it, have noticed it had double shifted a few times as I must change the gear near redline when the stronic wants to do the same thing. Wasn't a great experience... Felt like I left it for a couple of seconds and had to sort it out by issuing another gear change. Had enough time to look at what speed I was doing and noticed the boost was at about 3/4s also.
It was making an interesting sound when not in gear.

Maybe be I should just leave it in auto mode, but manual mode is fun when the car is set to dynamic.

Either: Leave it to upshift on its own accord at red line (after which you can play with paddles to your hearts content!) - or - manually shift with the paddles a few hundred rpm shy of the red line (where you achieve max torque, so those few hundred rpm to the red line isn't actually producing anymore useful power).

:)

(I would be interested to know if it sorts itself out eventually after a false neutral, or you have to manually intervene every time. If its the latter, that shouldn't happen, so back to the dealer).

Hi wonder if anyone can help, got mine on Monday :yahoo: Does anyone know how to get the album art to come up on the MMI via ipod and or SD card ?? Tried everything i can find so far but no joy ?

Hi got to try and do this off the top of my head - I think you need to be in media and then settings and there's an option for detailed album info and then it brings the artist info and the artwork - If this doesn't help come back and I'll check on my car - At work at the moment and the car is parked down the road (not happy about that either) - What colour cable do you have by the way (is the grommett blue or red) as some people are getting issues with the blue although I'm sure mine is blue

Hi thanks for the reply. I don't have a colour on my cable, but its more regarding the sd card, some album covers appear others don't ?

Happened to me today. Took off from the lights, and when going to second gear (in auto mode) it hesitated for about 2 seconds whilst it felt like it was in neutral. Maybe some sort of failsafe as its happened to a few of us. After all the car is damn smart!

Hi I think that's more to do with embedded album covers - If you google this it tells you how to change it in itunes to 800 x 800 which should then show apparently

Not tried sd cards

Haha I thought same when I looked back at the photo!

Getting 35mpg and here in France 98 is only 4 cents a litre more than 95 ;-)

I also like the led lights - they also appear to do a sort of "follow me" when you turn left or right - brightness is great and had no complaints from drivers coming other way so assume they don't dazzle like other lights - plus they'll use a lot less power/fuel than other lights

its to keep emissions and tax low but I hate it and would rather pay extra tax - its a pain when you are parking - I switch mine off manually every time I get in the car - thing is I still don't get how this stop start tech is of a benefit as im sure youll need to replace the battery, starter, etc a lot sooner and that wont be cheap, plus has anyone though about how dangerous it can be as for a split second you cant move your car out of a dodgy situ - eg some plank in a 4x4 too busy on their phone - that split second could make all the difference - damn tree huggers

On private road of course

really? somehow we don't believe you

mind you my car has done almost 250 miles and I gave it a blast in a 60 from 30mph, then looked at the speedo and it said 100mph after what felt like a very few secs...quickly tapped the brakes...ooops

I'll be driving mine 80 miles a day 70-80mph on the motorway and well off it who knows!

I'm hoping for about 30+ when being careful!

Hoping......

oddly its easy driving the s3 at 60mph of the motorway and 90mph+ lol but not so easy at 70-80 as it seems to hit the sweet sport when the wolf has awoken

Just out of interest. If you haven't specced the advanced key do you have to have the start button or do you have to turn a key?

I can't go back to turning a key like a right fool! : (

You only get pb if you spec advanced key.
I'm not a huge fan of advanced key. Car lock and unlocks all the ti me when washing it, key best left in house. Also, annoying to get car onto coil.
Although it is pretty neat hitting stop once in park, jumping out and car shuts down and locks......
