Hi guys, 3 weeks ago we put a deposit down on the above car and we're told we could have it in 7 - 10 days but it developed a fault with a rough tick over on start up from cold before we collected it so the dealer took it into Audi in Bury st Edmunds, they have told us that it needed new cam adjusters that are on order from Germany so would be another week. When I last spoke 2 the dealer he said the new adjusters are fitted but the car won't accept the new software update and now Audi uk are gonna sort it then when he gets it back he will get the new tyres and other bits n bobs sorted so should be ready for next Sat. Have any ov you guys had problems with software updates or the cam adjusters? The bill must now be huge at Audi rates, glad I'm not paying for the work.

I think its trying to tell you something?
Run away as fast as your legs will carry you.

The actual cam adjusters (vanos units) or cam adjustment valve? I've had a dodgy cam adjustment valve which played havoc. But no software updates??? The vanos units cost £100's each and there's 4. I've also changed the top two cam chain adjusters

The bill is into the thousands now but not costing me and the work will be covered for 2 years, and yes its the actual cam adjusters or so im told but not 100% sure until I have picked the car up and got the paperwork. If we walk away (and I dont want 2) we would lose our £500 deposit, cant find any in our price range (£6-7000ish) with all the toys and extras that this has got.

I'd keep it. That's a lot of money spent on it now at audi's expense.
At least the parts replaced will give you price of mind

Thats true, but whats going to wear out next and will it cost as much to fix?
Being a cynical *******, Im thinking its cheap for a reason.

That is true but cars all go wrong at some point in time and the dealer didnt have 2 take it 2 Audi and get it fixed as there was no problems on the test drive or on any of the times we started the car from cold or hot.

If Audi are doing the work, I'd think they'll also check or possibly change the timing chains and tensioners as well. Ask them if it's had the recall on coil packs done. It's free.

Assume the car will have warranty with it?
what reg and mileage?

Mmmmmmmmm stuck between a "rock and a hard place".
I think I would stick with the car as £500 is a lot to burn.
Good luck .

Hi, it will have a warranty on the work done at Audi (2 years I think) and 3 month warranty at the dealers that im getting it through. Its 2006 125,000ish miles 3.2fsi Quattro Avant sline tiptronic with lots o upgrades like satnav, sunroof, black leather, tinted windows ect

Its black the best reason of all not to buy it!
You will roast your **** off when you get back to it and the sun is out, then you get to sit on the red hot seats, then best of all you wash and polish it so its stunning, next day it looks pants once again.
I for one will never own a black car again
Might be worth checking on the warranty small print, ie is it for two years regardless of owner or only for the the name on the invoice, in this case the car dealer?
I cant argue with you regarding that all cars go wrong, but I would be thinking, if its this much trouble and I dont even own it yet, whats next to fail?
Cant see how you would lose your deposit, who wants a potentially dodgy motor?

lol ive had black cars before and they do look great for about half an hour a week (just after washing them) Dont think the suns out long enough these days 2 worry about.

Just had an update, the software is now updated and the car has been serviced so just need the bumper spraying and tyres fitted and it's good to go:)
