Hi,

I have the standard audi headunit and want an AUX input, to play music from my Iphone.

I don't want to replace the whole headunit as im not keen on aftermarket units and don't want to pay £500 odd upgrading to a better Audi unit, is there a kit I can buy and have installed fairly cheap to do the trick?

Spoke to car audio security fairly recently and they suggested a £40 kit (forgot the name) which lives in the glovebox, but didn't go through with it as I wanted to hear some feedback.

If anybody knows of a solution please let me know.

Its an A3 8P, 2005 reg with the standard unit, as I said.

Thanks

You can get a radio transmitter if that's what they're called, plug them into your phone and tune into the radio. It's what I always use and its very clear too!

Oh okay mate cool thanks.

Any more info on this? Ie, what model to buy, where to buy from, how to tune in etc?

Yes sorry I should have put more info!

its this sort of thing and they take literally seconds to tune in. It'll usually come on like 88.0 FM and you just have to tune your car stereo to 88.0 fm and they link together :) I'd probably get them from eBay or amazon and I'm not sure what model mine is as I got given it but its similar to this.. (I guess the more you spend the better)

Ah okay mate cheers.

So I'm just looking on eBay for any one? They're not car/radio specific?

And I assume you get a lead to charge the device when you need to?

Yeah they will work on any car mate and they only power on when your phones in them, so I think they run off that. Some may be different to other but they would come with a charger if so :)

FM transmitters and Audi's don't really go well together, if you can get a wired connection it will be excellent.

When you say A3 with standard head unit, which one do you mean as there are three. And as your car is a 2005 it could be a double DIN concert so AUX is very easy.

Chorus II & 3, single and double DIN
Concert II &3 single and double DIN, aux available on the 3
Symphony II & 3 double DIN only, aux available on the 3

i have used mine for a while now and had no interference what so ever. Works a treat! Maybe it's the different models of them

Cool! On it now... Only thing I'm put off by is the price, they're so cheap!

I just wonder how good they are, aha.

This is all mine is and I like it! Haha no wiries attatached so friends in the back of the car can choose music too! Image

Post a pic of ur stereo. I retrofitted an original audi aux kit for about 40-50 quid

Sorry to hijack your thread but I'm trying to do the same I have the chorus head unit with tape no cd in glove box but has cd button on head unit it's an 06 a3. Thanks

You'd need something like an xcarlink or dension unit.

I agree with Craig, although I'd go so far as to say FM Transmitters are crap, had some myself & to many stations interfered, just do as advised & get a cable solution.

Thanks for the help lads but I went into my local Halfords last night, about to pay £40 for a FM transmitter and saw a lovely Philips single din headunit for £100, I thought for another £60 I may as well go for the head unit and make the most of the good connectivity and features.

I have a Connects2 unit in mine, similar to the Xcarlink type setup, its on my concert II single din, allows for line-in (aux), usb drive or SD/MMC card

cant fault it, the headunit treats it as a CD multichanger

Aux also available on Symphony II+ :)

Another +1 for the connects2 aux in unit. I believe you'll need the one with the iso connector like mine. Works fantastic. Steer clear of FM transmitters. They really are crap.

I had a connects2 that I used for my last Audi which had a single din concert 2. I think my new one has a concert 3. It's a double din. What are the chances of the connects2 working with it?

That will be a quadlock whereas older was Iso, so you need an adapter from one to other or create new pin ends to plum into the quadlock directly.

Hi, so just on this topic, I have a Concert (Not sure if It's 2 or 3, its aa single DIN unit) head unit in a 2004 8p TDI Sport, which had a 6 disc changer in the glove box. I want, ideally a bluetooth solution to use the phone to stream music through the existing head unit and use it as a car kit. I've heard and read about the Xcarlink with BT upgrade, but I don't have an MFSW, nor do I have any phone answer/end type buttons...

Other than either a new HU, or Parrot type option, anyone have any ideas or sugestions?

I have got an Audi A3 2012 model, what aux cable do I need?

Amazon product

Just got this for my car. For less than a fiver I thought worth a punt. And I can't believe how well it works!!!! Lasts about 4 hours not the 8 they claim. And it even has a mic in it for taking phone calls which for the money its not bad at all. Took a couple weeks to get to me so I guess it comes from China

look on ebay (aux a3 8p, or connects2 or usb for a3 8p) + programming of H.U. via VCDS (get someone near you on map)
