Who collects on 1st March 14?

None at all. They just seem to work out expensive although they do so all repairs will be done by an Audi approved work and/or body shop, but you can always insist on this with other insurers.

MoreThan refused to let me use a MINI bodyshop. In fact they threatened to cancel my policy if I did not agree as I would be in breach of T&C's bull. Think Aviva will let you use any repair shop (after their approval) but you have to pay further £200 excess.

I've got the 7 day free cover , only because it is free and makes things simple for me. Their quote was 2.5x my standard insurer but I like the benefits of Audi own repair etc etc.

I agree and that was my point... 7 day free buys you a bit of time to sort out the full cover. But I would never pays upwards of £1000 extra just for the comfort of using Audi approved, I would rather pick a lower cost where I have options and potentially stick the £1000 towards whatever repair is needed if it comes to it...

They were the cheapest quote for me. Simply decision really for the peace of mind.

I've been insured with a number of different companies over the years. Only required the services of a body shop a couple of times but it both cases when the insurance company have asked for three quotes I told them my car is covered by a Audi paint and body work warranty and the work has to be done by an Audi Approved Bodyshop. They have always accepted this, looked at the detailed quote direct from the bodyshop and approved it without any problems.

If anyone is worried about this they can always take out Audi Ensurance.

You appear to have been lucky, or your insurer already had an Audi Approved repairer on their books.

The following thread is much more typical of an insurance claim and trying to get them to use an Audi Approved repairer.
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/insura...-a5-quarter-panel-damage-insurance-claim.html

Insurance companies will want to pay the least possible amount, and anything outside their approved repairer network will attract higher labour charges, which will have to be approved on a case by case basis. Often it is you running around getting quotes sent off etc.

Yep agree - but some insurers have all their own set up so will refuse to let you use anyone else. It's become more prevalent in the industry over the last 5 years.

Looking back at my old information, in 2012 I paid £49.99 for the Audi Ensurance. So if you get another quote and it's more than £49.99 cheaper than Audi Insurance's quote you could take out that and Audi Ensurance and that would ensure (no pun intended) that the work is done by an Audi Approved Bodyshop.

EDIT

I've just been looking at the Audi Ensurance website to check the current prices and I couldn't find any. I think the following paragraph I have just seen on the website explains why. It seems that it is now a FREE service for ALL Audi customers for 3 years. All you have to do is register:

And the best bit…… Ensurance is now free to all Audi customers for three years. It only takes a minute to get cover, simply click here and add your name, contact and vehicle details.

Definitely not worth not doing. That way you can Ensure that any work required will be done by an Audi Approved website.

Ensurance is free now isn't it? I'm sure I registered for it...

It is as I have just found out. That's new because when I bought my Sportback in 2012 it cost me £49.99. Excellent!

Certainly worth registering.

But what legal clout have Audi Ensurance got over your normal insurer?

It already states in the Aviva policy document, that if you choose your own insurer, you are liable for extra costs etc.

You really do get what you pay for with insurance, and for me, paying a little extra, getting a replacement car identical to mine and having no hassle is worth every penny.

You are correct. My company car was hit by a driver and his insurer (Aviva) insisted the car to go to their bodyshop. My company car is insured third party only so they were happy for it to go where ever. Luckily for me my companies approved bodyshop was the same one Aviva wished to use.

As you say, Aviva will let you use another insurer but you may have to pay for extra costs (if your repairers quotes is more than the Aviva quotes) and £200 further excess. They are one of the most reasonable in respect of other garages!

its totally up to the insurer and the T&C's.

The Audi Ensurance booklet dated August 2013 has the following paragraph...

Working alongside your main motor insurance policy, Ensurance guarantees your vehicle will be repaired at an approved repairer, by Audi trained technicians using genuine Audi parts and paints – no matter who your motor insurance is with. And if this costs anymore than your motor insurance provider is willing to pay, we’ll pay the difference – at no cost to you.

Point is the insurer can REFUSE to pay. It's their right. MoreThan for example are very clear on this and hence my personal preference would be Aviva for example or a manufacturers policy.

Agreed and it is nice to see that some insurance companies are giving us the chance to choose what we want to pay for rather than everyone have to pay for everything. For example, getting a 'Replacement car identical to mine whilst mine was being repaired' is not important to me as I'm retired and my wife and I can always work it together using her A1. But 'Overseas Cover' is important because I take my car to Germany several times a year. This would be a waste of money for anyone who doesn't take their car abroad.

As I so I've had no problem in the past, but I normally ask the insurance company what their position is on this before taking out a policy with them and so far each one I've used has been happy to use the Audi Approved Bodyshop nearest to where I live which is also approved by most if not all of the major insurers. The other point is of course if the insurers will not pay any extra involved for using them, the Audi Ensurance will pay the difference. The only thing that a lot of insurers will not do if you use other than their own approved bodyshop is provide a courtesy car, but that is not important to me. The particular bodyshop I've used has their own fleet of courtesy cars if I did want one.

If Audi Insurance quoted a similar price to other insurers I would be happy to go with them, but the last couple of times I've got a quote from them it has been almost double other major name insurers.

My quote of audi was £135 more than the cheapest quote.....what do you think?

If you register for Audi Ensurance which is free and take the quote you have you will be £135 better off. Always assuming the quote is from a reputable company. I don't think Audi Insurance will not offer you any more. They only act as agents after all.

More ships for the UK. City of Sunderland has just docked at TYNE and Schedle Highway is on-route to GRIMSBY ETA 11:00 24/2.

Audi insurance is through Allianz. You call Allianz not VW financial services when you get a quote. You can ask them to price match which they will do. They did for me at renewal.

Also depends on who you got your quote from RVP20. Some will say in the T&C's how much extra excess you may have to pay if you use a non-approved repairer. Esurance will cover any difference in repair costs but overall maybe cheaper to go with Audi if another insure charges mentioned fee.

I've just been into the Audi Insurance website to get a quote for the A3 Sportback 2.0TDI-184 s-tronic quattro I have on order.
I have also have a new quote from my existing insurers LV to compare. The cover included is the same, the same options chosen, the same excess of £300. protected NCD etc.

The Audi Insurance quote is for £551.09. The LV quote is for £223.04. I am already registered with Audi Ensurance having had a policy with them in the past. So Audi Insurance will cost me an additional £328.05. Certainly not worth that amount.

LV have been good for years but the quote for S3 was totally unacceptable. Have moved to John Lewis who are charging just £248 a year. No excess (excess cover) legal European . First year gap , protected bonus etc ... brilliant sorry LV you need to sharpen up. Similar cover on LV terms was £350 !

OK. Everyone will be different with quotes depending on individual circumstances etc. Hence why I guess it pays to check T&C's and work out overall cost.

In my example, £390 all in through Aviva which was the same price as Audi. But Aviva charge an extra £200 REGARDLESS of Esurance to use another body-shop. So I would have been stupid to go with Aviva to save £10 when in a claim for repairs I would be out of pocket.

LV were very expensive for me so go figure.

Exactly the reason it pays to shop around every year. Up until last year Saga were good for both car and house insurance. But at renewal this year they wanted a lot more so I shopped around and LV were the best for the car and John Lewis best for the house. My existing car insurance is due in May and I will shop around for that as well. LV seem quite good at the moment at £223.04 for the new 184 but I will get quotes from others as well. What is best one year it not necessarily the best next year. Also renewal of an existing policy often works out more expensive, even with the same company, as a new quote.

As far as Aviva and Ensurance are concerned, as I understand it, if Aviva charge an extra £200 to not use one of their own units then Ensurance will pay that £200. Personally if Aviva wanted to charge me an extra £200 to use an Audi Approved Bodyshop rather than their own approved bodyshop (which would probably be cheaper and not always use approved Audi parts) that would be a good reason not to take out any insurance with them.

No Aviva charge it on top of your excess. So a £150 excess becomes £350. Ensurance won't pay for it. Already had that conversation with both companies.

Good reason not to use Aviva.

LV on line is typically 30% less than renewal figures. Why? Trying to exploit existing customers ? On S3 they are way ott. Seems they prefer safe old duffers IMHO .

I have yet to try 'sex and games (for the ) aged SAGA despite probably being old enough... (Don't want to hurt my back. ;-/. )

I just bought insurance at m and s to start on 8th March.

Some of others quotes must mean you live in postman pat land. Mines 370 including extras for ncd protection andguaranteed loan car and legal. Thats 46 years with wifey on policy and 17 years ncd

It has new for old but I'll still get gap to cover 4 or 5 years including the first year

Underwritten by AxA

I checked their terms docs and just found the usual can use a non approved repaired but no mention if additional cots

I think some insurers practice of hidden charges should be outlawed, as who the hell has time to thoroughly read several t and c docs to compare polocies. This is why sites like confused.com were invented but they are quickly becoming redundant due to this underhand business behaviour.

Ill check m and s and ask if they charge extra excess. Mines at 300 already as 250 voluntary as my attitude is I dont want to claim unless I have to

I've just got another quote for my 184 s-tronic quattro from John Lewis, who were very competitive with my house insurance.

They have quoted £247.58 with £50 excess. Max NCD + 1xSP30 + wife as second driver. Must be another company that like 'old duffers' like myself.

Must check who their insurance company is just in case it's Aviva (extra excess for using Audi Approved Bodyshop)

Done the paperwork on mine today in prep for Saturday... here she is!!

I also went out in their current S3 demo (3dr Glacier S-Tronic absolutely basic apart from tech pack).

It's the first time I've been out in an S3 on my own and I last drove one in October last year so I could hustle it along at a fair pace and MY GOD, what a car.

I know you'll have all have had a test drive before but my god, it's the way they've tuned the S-tronic and really tweaked the software that just makes it come alive. This is just miles apart from our Golf GTI DSG, you'd think it was a totally different box.

It was wet today and it just kept on gripping - I wasn't being a loon but it was seriously impressive. Anyone who needs to go beyond these limits on the road to find any understeer is just driving too quickly! I found a really nice tight set of S bends which I managed to hook up really nicely in it and I just couldn't believe the way it can get the power down on corner exit - that Quattro really is a masterpiece too.

Even managed to do a quick launch to 60 in the wet and it just did it, no drama or wheelspin, just forward motion.

I am seriously looking forward to Saturday now - I'd forgotten just how much of a treat I'm going to be in for!!

(oh, and I got 15.9mpg on my test drive route out and playing - 20 miles, then got 38mpg on the return "cool down" in economy over 10 miles - pretty impressive really!!)

Does it have the "dome" or "flat" radar in the front grille? ;)

I also noticed the change in DSG calibration compared with older DSG boxes I've driven. This one is just sublime :)

Dome :arco:

Which I am chuffed about as the flat one is the cheaper Bosch version which doesn't have as far a range of vision or the computing power to cope with as many objects. Tech specs are on the bosch website for both.

Ah yes, you've got active lane assist, so it would make sense to have the dome version :)

Is that what swings it now then?

I know I have a camera above the rear view mirror too. I'm sure someone on here had a flat sensor + lane assist?!
