Hello,
I just got my new Audi s3 sportback one week ago...
I have already done about 600 miles and yesterday I noticed when I accelerate, at around 2300 to 3000 rpm, a strange noise like blowing/whistling,not very loud but can be heard. After 3000 rpm it disappears, I only hear when I accelerate.

Do you have any idea if it is normal?

Thank you

There is a problem with rattling Turbo Linkages on 1.4TFSI's. So if you have this engine it might be the source. A fix should be avaliable by Audi

Thanks for the reply...

It is a different sound than the normal turbo sound, very quiet/blowing sound...after 3000 rpm it disappears... the turbo sound continues...

It is a sound that accompanies the turbo sound from 2300 till 3000rpm

Hope it is normal but at the beginning could not hear or perhaps have not noticed it

What engine/gearbox have you got?

If it's a metallic kind of noise it's normal, we all hear it. Otherwise if it's some other noise we'd have to hear it cause it's impossible to tell if it's normal without hearing it for ourselves.

I refresh this thread just to say that I noticed the same sound...it started at about 1200 km and it is different from the turbo spinning. It is a faint but harsh, metallic noise that appears under acceleration between 2000 and 3000 rpm. It looks like something resonating in the exhaust system...

Under strong acceleration in 6th gear I did not notice it.

PS. Mine is S-Tronic.

Another member called Dakar contacted me in relation to another post I made about this problem.

It could be that we are talking about the same problem, so before I go into too much detail this is what I have heard... The problem affects the 2.0TFSI S3 and the 1.8TFSI. The fault is being discussed on a German forum and you can use google translate to read it
1.8TFSI und 2.0TFSI S3 - Sammelthread: Rasseln im Bereich Beifahrer von der Abgasanlage : Audi A3 8V, 8VA & 8VS

Let me know if you think this is the same problem, but when you describe it as "a faint but harsh, metallic noise that appears under acceleration between 2000 and 3000 rpm. It looks like something resonating in the exhaust system" it makes me think its the same problem.

Let me know !

I read the first 3 pages of the german forum (despite something is not clear from google translate) and I am quite sure that is my same noise.

Title of this thread should be changed in order to attract the feedback from other users...
