2013 Audi S3

What has everyone found their lead time to be? I am ordering tomorrow and since the test drive it's been on my mind!!! I can't wait to take delivery.

Its gonna be approx 3 months wait for me, ordered Dec 9th and hoping 1st March ish delivery

It's the other way around, UK and certain parts of Europe love the hatchback.

The rest of the world (esp. ****, Aus, USA) love a traditional 3 box Saloon.

The Ford Focus sedan sells in much higher volumes worldwide than the hatch.

I think you're right, when it comes down to it the hatch is a great compromise, you get a smallish car, good for tight British roads but decent space when you put the back seats down, bigger than all but the largest saloon. So pretty popular in size limited Britain. In a lot of other countries with much more space (the US being one such obvious example) you just get a massive saloon/SUV/pickup and it doesn't matter. Try and park one of these bad boys in your local Asda and not get it scratched!

Ordered mine last week of September and it arrived at the dealer last Wednesday - 1st March pickup - it was roughly six months wait when I ordered S3/A3

I ordered an A3 2.0TDI-184 quattro last Monday as was quoted an estimated delivery of 2 May 2014. A3s and S3s are all built one behind the other on the same production line so I would guess your S3 would be about the same time. Some times the delivery date gets changed when the order is confirmed by the factory. This is usually a few weeks after the order has be placed. Your dealer will be notified when the order is confirmed and will be given a build date. Delivery to the dealer is usually 3 to 4 weeks after that.

The only way you are going to get a car quicker, is if your dealer (or the group) had already ordered a car for "stock" - and they can modify the order to suit you.

My dealer had placed such an order back in early Dec, I ordered end of Jan, and the order was changed to suit my requirements, delivery end March/beg April.

The only time this tactic doesn't work is if you want a specific MY. So folk wanting a MY2015 car must not allow the dealer to modify an existing order, instead start a fresh order from the time they are accepting MY2015 orders.

"The S3 Sportback handles superbly, yet offers a comfortable, composed ride. It’s seriously fast, too – 0-62mph takes just 5.2sec with the manual gearbox, or 4.8sec with the optional auto. The latter is quicker than a Porsche Cayman S."

This made me ;)

Oh. I'm hoping for 25 -30 but no illusions if you want to have fun!

I'm hoping for the same. However guess anything over 30mpg is a good trade off for the performance available.

I am expecting 40mpg on my motorway (cruise @70 and eco mode) drives and not too worried on A roads or spirited.

You should be able to buy a car for fun but also expect (ish) the (extra urban) economy they quote if its one of their selling points.

Sorry Warren, not sure if Craig has B&O or Privacy Glass are you? That would really nail it!

There were a few folks suggesting S3 drivers were boy racers and privacy glass means you must be a drug dealer . As for B&O well goodness knows. Warren will be able to confirm in an eloquent way no doubt. I'm just a feet first old yobo!

Just managed to lightly damage my brand new S3 alloy & tyre -gutted...
Should I be worried about this small tyre tear?
There is a small flap of rubber few mm deep & it has been suggested that I get a new tyre !
The car is only a couple of months old.... what do you experts think ?

I thought all the S3's were coming with Conti 5's I note you are sporting a Dunlop there!

It sucks when alloys get kerbed, I once considered these Alloygator Products until I read of them flying off and damaging the wheel/arch side of the car.

Don't think mine is an issue, however some people say it should be replaced...... only concern is the crazy high speed driving I will be doing for the next three years !

Who can you trust to check it ...... they all have nothing to loose but say it needs a new tyre ! ;)

I did the same on my previous car and went to the tyre experts, they told me not to bother changing the tyre and that it was all good to go on the autobahn at 200 kph ... which I did, and i'm still alive :).

Edit:

Having said that, if you want peace of mind and if you're driving around with your kids, i'd still change it. A new tyre would cost very little if compared to you losing your life and potentionally other people's lives...

Depends if you value life over relatively little amounts of money

I agree with PA. Tyres and brakes are two areas I would always be very cautious on on cars, having had a blow-out at 70mph before, its always worth a check. I had a similar chunk out of my sidewall on my Scirocco and it was fine, but I still got it checked by a tyre expert (if there is such a thing). Other things perhaps be less worried, but tyres and brakes will save your life...

Dealer just rang to say my car is at the port, it arrived on Sunday on the City of Sunderland!! :icon_thumright:

Cheers! They look nicer than expected ;)

Although the standard S3 alloys are unique and nice it's a shame they didn't bring them out with a silver finish.

This is why I chose the same as you, imo they suit the rest of the ali trim(especially on SB with ali rails) on the car where as the darker standard S3 alloys don't unless you've got the black styling pack and black rails. Just my personal thoughts.
