Child car seats in 8V A3

Although ideally not very often, I will need to get two isofix Maxicosi child seats in the back of my S3 Saloon occasionally. Anyone had success getting the family fix base or other maxicosi isofix car seats in the back of their 8v? I'm not sure how different the body shapes are so if a saloon owner could reply doubly helpful!

Hmm I've got experience of this. Family fix base fits perfectly on isofix mounting points. But getting the child in (she's 6 months) is a different story. It involves dropping the back seats and removing the parcel shelf, then putting her in through the boot. You can't imagine the looks on peoples faces when I've done this. Damn I knew I should've ordered a sportback or saloon S3 with the extra doors as now we have to go everywhere in the wife's X5!!!
I'm sure the saloon will be fine though.

Thanks geefunk, gives me some confidence then. Is there no 'boot car seat' available for 3 doors then? gives you more reason to keep your child in your wife's car though! I'm already panicking about my sick prone children in my car!

I think one of the benefits of isofix is they defiantly will fit any isofix car. Especially a brand like maxi cosi. Just ordered an isofix base from John Lewis myself for my sportback

Thanks Andy, I think you're right but I've heard reports that some cars seat angle or shape make certain seats difficult to fit so just double checking

Not an S3 unfortunately but I do have a saloon with Super Sports Seats.

I have been carting my Nephew around over the past weekend in his MaxiCosi Child/Booster seat and it fits just fine, in and out in less than a minute.

Unfortunately it's not that simple.

In theory you can get "Universal Isofix" car seats that will fit any isofix car, but I've never seen one. Also, just because it physically fits, doesn't mean it's safe. A good starting point is the manufacturers websites (Maxi-Cosi - car fitting list), but your best bet is to go to a decent retailer and ask for advice.

There is something called I-Size which will make it much simpler to find a seat which fits, but this is a few years away.

I was going to get a Maxi Cosi ERF seat, but it isn't approved for the 8V. So I've just ordered a Cybex Sirona which is approved (even for the front passenger seat!) It's a great seat, but it is £375.

In my experience any isofix seat will fit as long as there are isofix fixing points and a top tether fixing point. The main problem is whether there is enough rear space to accommodate the seat unit. When my son was in his baby seat the passenger had to sit quite far forward just to get the baby seat in on the FamilyFix base.

I did read safety concerns about belted car seats where the design of the seatbelt buckle can affect overall safety, so be careful in that respect. We only use isofix, so wasn't a worry for us.

£375 extremely expensive to me, but that's probably because it's a rear facing toddler seat and there aren't many on the market.

£375 isn't that expensive compared to the rest of the car's options. It's half the price of B&O. It's even cheaper than metallic paint!

I think it's going to be a while before the i-size comes into full effect. I've gone for the 2 way fix base so can be rear facing for longer.

Love 'em, they look great and I have had only positive comments from passengers old(60) and young(5). Oh so comfy, not done any real long hauls in it yet but no complaints after an hour or so. Got a trip up to Wigan coming up so that will be good distance test, 180 odd miles.

I'll be finding out just how comfy the car is that day.

Just read into this. You're right and its now law, but only on newly sold seats. As I still have a seat my 3 year old currently resides in, I'll just move my 6 month old into that once he's ready, so don't think I'll need a new seat. I think the new law is because folk were switching their kids to front facing seats as soon as they could which wasn't super safe, but I intend to keep my youngest in his baby seat until the last possible moment!

I have an S3 hatch and occasionally I will need to put my 8 month old in the car when picking him up after work while my wife is away.

I have a front facing behemoth of a seat which just isn't practical to keep in the car and its a hassle getting him in and out of the back

Anyone on here recommend a small, compact, cheap but safe seat either isofix or belt fitted.

I have looked at the audi seats as I am OEM mad but I think they all need isofix bases which I want to avoid

I have a 15month old and have just bought the family fix isofix and the maxi-cosi pearl car seat. Fits perfect - I have the saloon with SS seats. Wife has the 2-way fix and 2-way pearl (I-size compliant) for her golf, but I haven't tried it in my S3 so can't comment for that. If you really want to know about it I can try it for you and report back but id guess it would be fine.
