Anyone know what the little grille is for on the centre console?

Next to the EPB switch, and ahead of the Hold Assist button (if fitted).

My suspicion is that it is the new "fanless sensor" for the climate control system (measuring cabin ambient temp), but I haven't a car to hand to investigate. Could somebody shine a torch through the grille and see if they can see a NTC sensor behind it please?

or it could just be a blank for LHD EPB fitment!

Isn't it just slots for storing coins for parking meters?

No fancy pancy - it's just for coins :)

Taking a guess, I suggest it's for storing a couple of coins for the lock of supermarket trolleys!

Coins?!?! Is that it ?!?

Two coins ?!?!

Ha. Then where have they put the cabin temp sensor Lol. I'll have to go hunting for it!

Thanks for replying :)

Yes it's listed in the parts catalogue as a Coin Holder.

Thanks Dave.

While you're in there, you wouldn't like to check ETKA to see where the cabin temperature sensor is would you ;)

Traditionally they Audi have mounted these as part of the HVAC unit itself, on the 8P it's the tiny grilles on the unit, on some other cars it's a small vent by the knee etc.

Thanks Dave.

I have just been looking and so far I cannot find anything other than some temperature sensors built in to the two outer vents on the dashboard. I will have another look.

Those are the discharge air temp sensors.

The cabin ambient temp sensor could be built into the HVAC unit itself, but it would need a small grille/vent to the cabin.

Thanks for looking.

In the workshop manual it shows a small Infrared sensor under the centre dial on the AC control panel which it describes as "For determining passenger compartment temperature"

That could be it, although I wasn't expecting an infrared sensor!

That's normally reserved for the sunlight sensor, normally situated on top of the dash under the front windscreen!

Thanks again.

The infrared sunlight sensor is also shown in the centre of the dashboard top surface.

Cheers Dave.

I guess that answers it. The cabin ambient air temp sensor is just below the fan speed knob, through a tiny aperture!!

And not what I initially thought, turns out they are coin holders!

I think EPB switch changes position for RHD and LHD so fairly simple swop with a coin holder!

That surprises me given how much of the centre console DOESN'T change between RHD and LHD - but the buttons in the picture above is definitely the other way around to my car so mush be the case!

The other thing they bothered to change for LHD RHD is the cigarette lighter!

But not the engine start & MMI Volume knob!!

I tried the other day and a pound wouldn't fit

I'm sure someone will prove me wrong but mine didn't.
Unless I went in at the wrong angle, if that's even possible in a simple slot lol

Obviously designed for the Euro! With the cost of parking in the UK two one pound coins wouldn't be much use!!

Agreed, would have made more sense to scrap the coin grille and attach a money clip for UK parking.

Another thing I have no idea what is for is the small plastic holder thing on the inside of the glovebox door? Any ideas??

The pen clip?

I have the same pen/pencil clip in my current 8P. Quite useful as I can never find a pen/pencil when I need one, especially if I'm in the car. My navigator (my wife) also uses it a lot when we make time and distance notes on our journeys through France and Germany on holiday.

With the superb Audi Navigation system we both enjoy watching the scenery. ;-0

Agree the coin slots are useless, one reason we are keeping the standard smoking pack with the smart 'ashtray' thingy for coins.

We're doing the same. I think you'd get about £100 in it though lol easy to carry into the supermarket for the coin counter.

But the superb Audi Navigation still cannot tell me where the next speed camera is located :)

Not sure I'd want dirty coins spoiling the look of my dash anyway ;)

Actually they don't in Germany or France, although using a 'device' to locate them in France is now illegal, but still OK when I'm driving in Germany and of course, the UK.

Fortunately in France many of them have been destroyed/set fire to by a group called I think Chapeau Rouge.. I believe 180 were destroyed between Sept - December 2013.. Might it spread over here?

The Camera near St Malo (Chateuaneuf Ile et Villaine) heading from Rennes Direction was painted yellow and well visible (before it was destroyed!!)

Got flashed on it a few years ago but fortunately my number plate was 'blocked' so no ticket ever arrived.
