Planning the handover - what to ask for?

I always ask for stuck on plates as I don't want holes randomly drilled in my bumper
As for stealing plates, if they want them I'm sure a screw won't put them off
Yes, the rear has factory fitted no. plate mounting points but the front doesn't. I also specifically asked for my plates to be stuck on not drilled - I hate those plastic screw covers especially when they're half on a letter, half on the background. In my experience properly stuck on plates are v difficult to get off easily!
I have always had my plates stuck on using the double-sided pads as I don't like seeing the screw heads on the plates. I have also seen on quite a few cars that the plates tend to deteriorate around the drilled holes. The other thing to consider if whether you want to accept the number plate backing plates that include the dealers name. Personally I also ask for these not to be used and the plates to applied directly to the car.
Things have moved on.
You can have backing plates that frame the number plate and plates attached with double sided number plate tapes.
This looks modern and professional with standard Euro plates. No holes required. Has been like this since 2001 here!!
I got the blue and red cables for free on collection, but I made sure when I bought the car they would be included.
When they are half on/half off, they are technically illegal anyway, as you must have screw covers that matches the background its on, and I've never seen a half yellow/half black screw cover used!

Just back from picking up the wife's Q5, got roof bars, bag (for the bars), boot insert, rubber mats, Audi teddy, a good key ring and both AMI cables (blue and red).
Over £300 worth of freebies.
Asked for the Lightning cable, but not available yet. As soon as it is I'll get one for my S3.

I sent an email yesterday to ask for dancing girls with nipple tassels, not got a reply yet 
I have asked the dealership for vanilla euro plates as I have seen a few with an advertising lip at the bottom (black strip) and they won't fit in the plate holders I have bought.
I got the dealer to chuck a set of these in on collection day too along with a boot liner.
They are an absolute must in this weather, my originals are sitting indoors keeping nice and clean while the rubber ones are getting abused
hmm, I keep thinking going Reading audi was a mistake - they seem really tight - proof will be on 1st march - I get mats but I think they are standard yet they want £170 for a boot liner even though ive bought most options
The trick is to negotiate all this stuff when you order and they are keen to chuck the kitchen sink in just to get your money!
trouble is ive never ordered an audi before so I don't know what I don't know and wish I found this site sooner. luckily I found it in time to get am okish discount of 6%, it was a miracle to get that as initially it was 0%
At the end of the day the do themselves a disservice because I wouldn't but from them again if they are that tight - my wife is interested in an A1 sportback too...oops!
also on here someone said carmats weren't free - for a £30-40K car I find that laughable if true

The fabric/carpet mats are included in the car.
However if you want the protective rubber mats, they are an optional extra.
Ok (my first post) - getting an A3 SportBack 1.4TFSI 122 SE on PCP and would welcome some advice please as I've never financed a new car this way before. Please note I am not wanting advice about the method of finance but how the Handover will actually take place.
I am doing the deal via a local garage as they are taking in my present car. A third-party finance company are organising the finance and the delivery of the car - I am currently unaware which Audi Dealer is supplying, if at all. They have confirmed the PCP deal has been approved (yesterday) and I have agreed to a Black A3 to be delivered off the next Production Run in 15 to 17 days time.
What do I need to watch out for and how will I collect the car?
Obviously I want a 14 plate but optional extras such as Rear Parking Sensors/Cruise Control - can these be added afterwards at no additional cost than if I had ordered these from the start?
Should I be asking to liaise with the supplier direct, whoever they may be? The guy at the garage seems a bit slow and I would like to collect myself, should the dealer be local, as I think they will be more knowledgable.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Welcome to the 8V forum.
Firstly if you are getting a new A3 in 15-17 days it must be a car that someone already has on order. Normally A3s take 12-16 weeks from order to delivery. Audi do not produce certain cars or colours in batches. Each car on the final assembly line car be any colour or model for any market. All A3s are made to order. The production is computer controlled and the relevant parts arrive on the line for the correct model and colour scheme. Is the garage you are buying the car from an Audi dealer or are they just acting as a agent.
Almost all the options that are available for the A3, and there are a lot, will cost considerable more to retro fit than as an option when ordering. A couple of examples are Heated seats £260 as an option, £1750+vat to retro-fit. B+O sound system £750 as an option, £1895+vat to retro-fit. Some other options will be cheaper but they will all be much more than the option when ordering.
I think you will find that doing it the way you are, if you have not actually placed the order yourself, you will have to accept what turns up. This is not the usual way most A3s are purchased.

The garage is simply acting as an Agent. I really do not know how delivery to me will take place - I will ask. I have had parking sensors added before after ordering on a Mercedes at no price difference to what it would have been had I been ordering an actual production line car. And cruise control - I would not have thought this would be any different also.
Are you really saying that PCP is unusual for Audi cars? I would have thought with their residual values it would be a popular way of obtaining one - I am aware of the normal time constraints and understand that I am getting someone's cancellation. This surely is no different to going into a dealership and ordering one. However how does, in my case, the car reach me?
Maybe someone with experience of PCP aquisition could give me a few pointers please?
you get decentish rubberised ones - in Costco for about £10-15 - though I think they are a generic fit
my dealer said most audis are bought on pcp after id put mine on pcp - I cant confirm this but I don't think it was a salesman tactic as I was going to do it regardless unless they came up with another great offer.
I am not saying PCP is an unusual way to purchase any Audi. It is probably the most common way. What I meant was that not ordering an A3 from an Audi dealer and choosing which options you want at the time of ordering is unusual. Choosing which option you want on your new car is all part of the overall enjoyment.
It is possible to add options to an already placed order but only up to about 4 weeks before the build date. If you are getting the car in 15-17 days then it's too late. A dealer may be able to add some items when the car arrives but, as I said in my earlier post, this will cost more than it being added when the car was built.
Most definitely, if you ticked all the options you want, and get a final figure that you're happy with, place the order and pay the deposit, you will find that if you've forgotten an option and than ask for it, you'll find that they are more than happy to add the option at full price (as long as car hasn't been built).
But the OP is collecting his car in 15-17 days and has no idea what options will be fitted!
Good morning and thank you all for your input. That is just it, I don't know what the options are that have already been fitted, if any. I don't know the dealer, the PCP company is dealing with so haven't a clue, yet, how the Handover will be made and where.
I will be writing to the gararge through whom I have placed the "order" and I am sure he can find out about all this. I live near Scarborough and the garage have already told me that it is not the York Dealership who will be supplying the car. The wife insists we have rear parking sensors and I would like to have cruise control - they are the only 2 items.
By the way, maybe a little off-topic, but what does this mean regarding Sat-Nav, in the list of Standard SE options: - "Preparation for SD card based navigation system "?

Mate I'm going to be honest with you and I think this is really risky business... You are buying a car for a significant amount of money, you don't know who/where from, you don't know what the car will have as features, you therefore can't know a price or anywhere near enough detail to be making this financial agreement. Do yourself a favour, take your time, get your *** down to a proper dealer and do a bit of research before you commit £25k+ of your money on a hope and a prayer.
I just hope you haven't put any deposit down already...
I like honest talk - thank you. Thing is I have a Mercedes CLK 320 Cabriolet on a 52 plate which I have had since nearly new and have cherished it so very much. However the brakes completely failed last Monday - brake fluid boiled, had no warning whatsoever and was nearly killed. Upshot is that the garage near where I work looked at the car and the cost of fixing outweighs the cost of selling it as is. I trust the garage 100% and they have already told me that if I want to place a "new" order, then we are talking about 12-16 weeks as h5djr has already mentioned. I cannot wait that long so have asked what cars are available, which haven't yet been "allocated". I have selected a Black Audi A3 SportBack 1.4TFSI 122 SE, the exact model I want and am pleased that they told me on Friday, they can let me have the car within 15-17 days. That is when it will be rolling off the production line.
Yes of course I am a bit nervous, which is why I posted, as I've never done PCP before. That said as a former Bank Manager, I feel I am savvy enough to spot and deal with any weaknesses etc. Yes I need to know what options will be on the car from the factory before I collect it, if any, what the reatail cost will be, upon which the contract will be based etc etc.
The "Finance" part of the deal has been agreed, in that the credit checks etc have been made and "approved". I have yet to see the contract as this approval was only relayed to me late on Friday - I didn't expect to get it until tomorrow.
Before I go to bed tonight, I will be emailing both the garage and the Finance company and will be asking amongst other things the following: -
1. Confirmation of exact model of car, colour and what options, if any, have already been fitted.
2. Exact Retail cost of the above
3. Copies of Contract
4. We require Rear Parking Sensors & Cruise Control fitted - what additional cost
5. Which Audi Dealer is going to effect the Handover and can I collect direct from them
6. Confirmation that the car will have a "2014" plate on it from 1st March
This is my list so far - should I be adding anything else please?

They MUST send you the Pre-Contract Information, the SECCI (Standard European Consumer Credit Information) in advance!

Can you not get a run around to last you until you can make an informed decision? I placed my order in November and always knew that I would be waiting until March. My 13 plate Astra VXR was rejected to Vauxhall early in December. Since then I have settled for my missus' old 07 Corsa to keep me mobile which has only cost me a couple of hundred quid over the 5 months (I have now sold it privately ready for 1st March with no real effort). I think for what extra you are likely to pay in having the sensors and cc fitted as aftermarket and what discount you should be able to negotiate at a dealer/broker (orange wheels etc) you have surely got to take your medicine and consider your decision a bit more... Only my opinion though mate.
Nice one, thank you. They have told me that there is a 7-day "cooling-off" period and the car cannot be delivered under any circumstances until after this time has elapsed. And yes, they will be processing everything tomorrow and sending it out. In the meantime I want to make sure there will be no surprises
Wish I could. Thought about this but funds are tight, have asked the family, but no - a "run around" will be costly - I travel 35 miles a day to work and back - I am asking for almost a "base model SE" so I am really not bothered about all the other option possibilities - I appreciate the fun of "picking your own" - never done it so as long as I know precisely what I am getting and from where, then I am ok with that.

A run around will not be costly if you buy sensible, look for tax/MOT/service history/take a test drive and you will be fine... It will cost you less than your pcp premiums will be for each month so you should end up with more deposit available.
I drive 40 miles a day at least with at least 1 200mile trip a week to customer sites.
I've pm'd you back so I will leave it there but I do worry for you on this one.
