Hi all,
I am looking to go for a A4 220 BHP 2.0T.
What are the main differences to the 200BHP? Just Software so it would make no sense if I remap it later?
What would you suggest?

The 220's are Quattro and either a Special Edition or a DTM so the spec is the main selling point, but other than that it's mainly the map. As far as I'm aware their are no other 220's.
Although you can get a spec'd up 200, it's a lot easier to find a good spec and a tiny but more power with either of the above. Mines the 220 Special Edition and I wouldn't change it for the world... Partly because I've spent the world on it.... But never mind

Sorry, they also have bigger brakes front and rear. 320mm front drilled as apose to 312mm standard. Also 288mm rear as apose to 266mm as far as I'm aware.

okay - thanks for that. so mainly the look and breaks. same engine same turbo and same cooler etc

Different engine code, so not sure if it's exactly the same. But turbo and both inter coolers are the same.

There is some other differences as well.

Stronger clutch
The 220 are mostly the BUL engine code which I believe have forged pistons. Were as BGB is the 200hp and BWE/BWA possible as well cant remember them off hand but its the same motor used in the VW platform the Golf 5 GTI.

Were as the Audis were the only ones that got the BUL. Thou this may vary by country.
And have twin intercoolers as to a single unit.
Also the 200 hp has a Ko3 and the 220 hp has a Ko3s

The 220 hp also have 18inch wheels, most of the time in the S-Line, I know for sure the DTM have 18inch standard.

Some of the last 220 hp models had black tail pipes from the factory and DTM 18 inch alloys.

Think the 200 hp se have 17inch wheels.

You've educated me here lol! I didn't realise their was so many differences...

Werent they just ***! glad i got rotors for mine. ****** DTM ones were a nightmare lol.

Hi the 220 is in 2 wheel drive as well as quattro love mine to bits
the version 2 trim has alot of black parts grill tailpipes etc

well - just need to find one than and get rid of my one.
autotrader has two in north of London with just 4Xk miles each. is 9.5k a decent price ?

220's were built in the same factory as the RS4 - as i learnt last week

had the same debate with my indie couple of weeks back...

not sure what gave him this idea but he insisted this was why they had an extra 20bhp from standard...

ill ask him next time and get back to you as to exactly why

probably the only thing his ever told me thats ever stuck in my head mind you LOL

Well I will tell you this. I was at the Audi Sport factory last year and to my knowledge only the DTM was built on the same production line as the RS4. Hence why the DTM also got the Sprint blue colour option and never the normal Sline as well as small things like the S4 suspension set up even thou a lot say the Sline is the same as the DTM suspension its actually 10/15/20mm lower. And there is a few other things to mention.

Personally I say they had left over paint from the old rs4 :sly:

But the way to tell is if your car has GMBH stickers or engravings all around your vehicle, IE under the bonnet on the bar code, inside the door sills, on the fuel cap. Then you know for sure it was.

But hey I could be mistaken about the Sline bodies being built in Audi sport. But I know as well the BUL engine was built on the normal production line, but it had development of the motor was from KTM and AUDI RS.

Yes you read right KTM.

Sorry to throw a spanner in here gio.. :p but my S Line FWD 220 spec ed was indeed built on that line as I do have the GMBH stickers within my engine bay etc. Also.. before I picked up this dolphin grey S Line, I went to view a Sprint Blue S Line 220 special edition but the mileage was too high for the price. And that wasnt a DTM. So there are some S Lines that must have been on the RS4 line afterall, inc mine I would say. and I have BUL engine lol

HAHA, I thought it would back fire. But then again considering the "special edition" was special even thou it was just left over bits from the DTM. Doesn't surprise me considering it has the same DTM alloys.

Thats really interesting because I have never seen a sprint blue A4 B7 220 hp. I have seen the A4 B7 3.0 TDI but never the 2.0ltr. No doubt it was a requested colour as I know when I was looking for a Special Edition S Line it was a 2k optional extra if you wanted the sprint blue colour.

But thanks for that info. Now I know.

Also some more information on the BUL engines is that most of them got the revised intake cam shaft revision B. Were as all the 200 hp have revision A cam shafts hence why most of them have the cam follower issue.

Safe to say Ive never seen a sprint blue of the same model since that advert...it sold within half hour of me looking at it also by the bloke who looked at it after me so I guess he may have been clued up to its rarity perhaps?
I love that colour but i paid the same money for 40k less on the clock and i prefered that option.
Good news on the cam shaft also i like that.

Thats another blue thou you did get the RS4 in that blue. But the colour we referring to is unique to the Audi DTM and RS4.

Like the above thou in the flesh it is a bit lighter.

Kinda like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0c/Audi_A4_DTM_Edition_front.JPG

Ahh yep I can see it now! Lol. I like the light blue that's lovely!!

I'll contribute.

I have the SE S-line, 220bhp, Quattro.

Two tone black leather, Black Tail pipes and DTM wheels (which I like, haven't cleaned them yet though!)

when you reach cleaning the third wheel...youll be running through which alloys to buy for it lmao

Interesting thread, this :icon_thumright:

But,

Are you sure this is correct bud? I'm sure BUL engines have a K03 also. The compression ratio's different to the other variants too if I remember right.

Could do with Olly's input maybe, he's had his in bits enough times.

edit: I have an early 2006 Special Edition and that is GmbH also, and has black tailpipes.

edit2: a little more information about the different engine codes; Quantum Performance Engineering - All these engine codes! Can you explain what they mean?

Yes I am correct because my car has it as well as the forum member Craigcull who I am sure will add as he has posted on this thread.
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/sale-w...i-a4-2-0t-fsi-k03s-turbo-special-edition.html
Above is the link of him selling his turbo off his car even thou he says he doesn't think it is the original but it is and has gone to ko4 which I lead to believe he followed Ollys build anyway.

And yes you are correct the compression ratios are different.

That's good news if they do have a K03s :icon_thumright: be interesting to see what sort of power it'd map to compared to a K03.

Is yours mapped bud? Mine's standard for now, feels quick-ish but not exactly earth-shattering haha. I'll definitely be taking a trip to R-Tech this year once my Audi warranty's expired!

The guy who built my k04 hybrid told me that the k03s is forum bullsh*t. (His words not mine) and then continued to show me every available variant for the A4 B7 and nothing was on the list except a k03 5---- so on and so forth.
Am I right in saying the BUL is the S3 engine with a k03? If so they are a lot stronger with a lower compression ratio.

Craig, so are you saying your man says that there's only 1 common turbo on the entire B7 2.0t range?

Looking at the QPEng link I posted above, BUL engines would appear to be K03, and S3's K04.

I guess the only way to be sure is to compare the manufacturers part number of the turbo from both 200 and 220bhp engines. This is how we ascertained the difference back in the early days of the mk4 1.8t whereas the earlier cable throttle models had K03, and the 2000-on models which were fly-by-wire had the K03s.

Apparently so pat, but I'm not 100%. He's built me a beast of a turbo so I trust he knows what he's talking about.

I realise the S3 is k04 and BUL is k03, but what I want to know is if the block and pistons are the same... I.e can it take as much as an S3 engine? Mines going back for a tweek on Saturday that's all and if it can take as much as an S3, I'm gonna ask him to turn it up a notch lol!

So what engine would be fitted to a 2007 A4 B7 Fwd 2.0 TFSi Cabriolet?
