My11 retrofit dash cup holder

Hi folks

Is it just me or is there a lack of cup holders in the my11 Audi a3, I have a black edition did I miss an extra option that gives you more than 1 pitiful cup holder that is in a useless place under the armrest. I've seen a few threads on here about retrofitting an additional cup holder. Would this work on my dash as I was manning on fitting the rnse soon...

Hi there you can put a card/ coin holder ...
 
Hi if you take the blank buttons out , get a card holder from audi and just push it in job done ...
 
Ok before anyone jumps into this, you have to know its not a simple quick fix, the newer MY10/11 have a complete strip now, not individual buttons, because of the terrible alignment issues of before, also has different connectors on the rear, so you'd have to rewire to the older connectors & then fit the older facelift buttons that have individual connectors as the newer units are a sealed unit to a degree.

I could do this for you if you were interested, but do you really want a drinks holder in front of your radio, hence why I never completed the mod as too many electrics systems in the console for liquid to be close to, why audi even considered putting one above the radio in 04 is beyond me.

Good point but it's so annoying not having anywhere to put water bottles etc the misses just got an A1 it has 2 where the ashtray bit would be in the A3s and one at either side of the doors.
 
Thanks for the input guys is it possible to just put in the card holder in the my10/11 or is it he same issues with the buttons would it be possible to cut the buttons out if it's a one piece thing excuse the ignorance I haven't had a chance to peel. Ack parts yet to have a look at what's going on...

The MY09 buttons come with a card holder, but I agree I wouldn't a drink that close to my rns-e. if your desperate for one do a search for u.s. style cup holder and drop a few £££ and do that mod.
 
Thread resurrection.....i'm a little confused. The crinks holder won't fit in a MY11, but will the card/coin holder?

Good question if the blanks are not bloked I can't see why not :)
 
I'm interested to know if the coin/card drawer will fit in my 2012 S3 as I hate the blank buttons and could do with a cubby hole.
 
As NHN says above, cars from roughly 2010/2011 onwards, do not have "blanks" in place of switches.
The whole assembly comes as one piece, and there are no "blanks" to push out to fit a cardholder or cup holder in its place.

What looks like blank switches are in fact a one piece moulding of the entire strip.

If you want a card holder you would have to buy a MY09 strip and cardholder complete, then cut off the connectors at the back and fit new connectors on as they are different.

If you want an cupholder you would buy a MY09 strip and cardholder complete, remove the cardholder, purchase a pre09 cupholder, modify that (there is a thread somewhere that shows you how) and the strip, then cut off the connectors at the back and fit new connectors on as they are different.

Yep, I'm over it too. (I've just put all my SD card music onto a 32gb card and removed all my other 6 or 7 2gb cards from the ashtray, so can now use that space for coins instead)

Job done
