All,

Noticed this last night on my drive home.

Normal procedure is to start car and then straight away hit the 'S' button......with the secondary by-pass pipes, the noise is awesome...

However, my problem at the moment is even with the 'S' button on, there is no change in my exhaust note?

Thoughts please.....???

cheers

Kev

With the engine running at idle rpm, Kev: get some 'sensitive' person to stand at the exhaust outlets to check the gas-flow from the exhaust tail pipe(s) with the 'S' button: 1) de-activated (1-outlet), and 2) activated (2-outlets).

There will be a difference in both flow and noise, Kev; I'll leave you to find out.

But if there is NO difference then off to an Audi dealer you should go as it could be either: a) electrical, or b) mechanical, but the flap valve in the exhaust tailpipes isn't functioning.

Just to add its normal that the valve doesn't operate straight away when the choke is on i.e. on higher revs at idle when the engine is cold.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will try this out tonight.

When I said hit the button straight away, it was of course during my drive along my road out of the village. Hence why I noticed a massive difference i.e - it's a nice deep barble along the country roads enroute to work normally with the sport button 'on'

Will check everything over and report back.

cheers

I've noticed that as well, on start up from cold the valve must open up fully for a couple of minutes, as pressing the sport button makes no difference to the exhaust tone.

No it's the other way round, when it's cold pressing the S does nothing, but the valve is closed. It's only after the initial fast idle that the button comes into play and the valve will open when pressed.

I stand corrected !

I always wait for the car to warm up properly before pushing the S button, otherwise too much temptation to floor it :)

checked the 'flaps' so to speak last night, but no difference in flow or noise. button on, but off, no change.

phone call to Audi happening soon.....

thanks for your help

Check the pipe going into the flap/exhaust isn't bent.
The flap opens using pressure. If the pipe leading to the rear exhaust tail pieces is bent it wont open the flap which is in the left tail piece.

So went to the local Audi dealership today and they have booked my car in for 2 weeks time to review my problem.....

Should I ask for any other 'updates' to be carried out at the same time?

cheers

Kev, you should ask what updates are listed for your 'own' car; they WILL be listed on the Audi system against your own Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) No:.

The 'updates' listed on the Audi Forum(s) are NOT applicable to all cars, which is where much consternation is coming from.

Get your dealer to review ALL updates applicable to your own car, for sure they'll not be the same as they were/are for mine.

I'm praying Manchester Audi have the good sense to carry out any applicable updates while mines in their workshop.

Only good thing about the sport button being out of action is increased MPG figures..... hit over 30 at the weekend...... first time in a long while that's been displayed.
