Audi A4 2.0T FSI Quattro DTM 4dr [Audi Warranty to 20 May 2014]- Auto Trader UK

Im looking at the car in question. Only concern I have is that its been brought last year in May and is already for sale at a dealer. Plus side it has fash and still has audi warranty remaining. Anyone know history of this car? Im unsure, Il have to find out how many owners its had. If I do buy it, do you think I should ask for a 12 month warranty on top from the garage selling it?

Looks nice. Prev owner may have just wanted something else..if it has a FASH it should negate any issues with it forcing a quick change of vehicle that you are worrying about from the prev owner surely? recent cambelt change is good and price/mileage is good too.

Id say its potentially had a new engine. Which isn't common for these engines as when the oil pump or pick up goes will cause some serious damage.

The reason that makes me think this is its very very rare to come across a DTM with a warranty.

So either one of 3 things - something has happened to the vehicle mechanically, the previous owner was aware of the issues these vehicles have and wanted to be covered or the owner has just extended the warranty from owning the vehicle from new.

Just another thing to comment is I mean by no means am I trying to put you off but I searched for over 6 months for a DTM. And I have kept track of most of them in the country and I have only ever come across 2 that have had a warranty which is the one you are looking at and one from a gentlemen in derby who was a one owner and had a extended warranty after his standard 60k ran out.

What you can do is ring up any audi dealership in that area and say to them you are in the motion of purchasing the following vehicle if you could know about the history and they will politely tell you. So atleast from that side of things you will have a piece of mind.

Lastly I have seen this vehicle in the flesh. Roughly early last year.

The bits of information I can share is the vehicle was in Audi Bradford for sale it had 55108 miles done. It had a single din radio, it has the phone compartment built into the centre dash the one that hangs off to the left of the centre console, had poor quality nexen tyres, I had a suspect of a boot respray based on the paint colour difference with some paint running as well as the A4 badge was placed on the right side of the vehicle were as it should be on the left. It was owned by "Audi" and then another uk member. So totaling 2 uk owners. Thou when viewing this vehicle it was quite brief as my time was limited and I dont recall looking too much into the engine so I cant verify about the comment I made about a replacement engine.

Thinking about it because it was for sale at Audi it could be that the vehicle still has the "6/12month" sale warranty that Audi offer with approved second hand vehicles.

Hope this information is of some help.

I thought the pump failure etc was the common issue on BKD engines in the 140 TDI models...not this BUL petrol engine???

You are correct it is a common issue on the diesel motors. But the petrol motors use a very similar system if not the same.

Poor servicing, incorrect oils or mixing of oils can cause the oil pick up to block. Not as bad as the 1.8T used to suffer. But are still prone to happening.

If you follow olethalb DTM thread you will see around page 5. He actually deleted the oil pump drive. Go take a look. You will see he deletes the balance shaft.

There is numerous members who have had engine failure due to the pick up blocked or oil pump failure.

i get min serviced regularly and the oil changed everytime and oil filter so hopefully it will stay good!

Mine has a full audi service history and still has giving the issue. You actually meant to service it more frequent than per the book. Due to the nature of the engine which I have been doing.

But again it is down to the previous owner.

Keep a ear out for your chain rattle as well. Usually when the motor is starving of oil you will hear the chain even more even thou the tensioner will need replacing by then but it generally is a good sign to know. But then again these motors have been renowned for just letting go un announced.

I wouldnt know what to listen for or how to change anything myself lol. If it goes it goes, all cars are a ticking time bomb in essence

Its really simple when you start the car on a coldish morning you will hear a slight rattle from the rear of your engine regardless if you have the bonnet open or not. All of your engines do that as the tensioner works on oil pressure. If the noise persist to sound like a grindin ticking noise. Then you know or listen to this.

AS this is from a members BUL engine on here: Audi A4 2.0t fsi Quattro BUL - YouTube

That was before he had the work done on the engine.
