Working up an A3 spec

Hi

First time posting here.

I currently have a 2010 A3 hatchback 1.4 TFSI Sport model and have been told that it's now time to get myself a new company car. Thankfully my company allows me to add to my allowance to get what I want.

This time around I've decided to get the Sportback but other than that I'm sticking with the same engine, 1.4 TFSI manual transmission, with the Sport equipment.

In terms of options I'm currently looking at the following -
  • Comfort Package
  • Audi Parking System Plus (front and rear with selective display) - upgraded from just the rear sensors
  • Xenon Light Package
  • Metallic Paint
  • Removable Towing Equipment (for my carrying my bike)
  • Sat Nav (SD Card Based)
  • Audi Sound System

I don't need the B&O sound system and nor do I need the land / side assist options.

Anything obvious I've missed out?

One question I have regarding the MMI. I have an iPhone5 and just want to know how I play music from that in the car - is it via bluetooth? cable?

I'm not sure Audi have released an iPhone5 cable yet - but it will work over bluetooth

I would compare the MMI screen quality between the SD card and Hard drive based nav - its a massive difference in my opinion
 
Are you happy with the standard door mirror setup or would your prefer to upgrade to either the 6XE (£150) Door mirrors-electrically adjustable, folding and heated including the auto kerb dipping function or the 6XK(£250) Door mirrors-same as 6XE but with the auto-dimming function on the driver's side.

The only other option I would personally include is the PGC (£350) Adaptive Cruise Control, although this is most useful for long motorway type journeys.

I agree that the Hold Assist is well worth it for £90 especially with a manual.

andywil13 - I appreciate the screen will be much higher resolution but I think for my usage / cost / value the SD Card system will be adequate.

Schizophonic - I don't find hill starts an issue so will probably leave that out.

h5djr - I had considered the Adaptive Cruise Control but have come to the decision that the basic system is fine for me. The door mirrors is something I had considered and something I think I'm going to look into a bit more.

There's more than just Hill starts. It's when your car is at Hill then instead of applying break and handbrake the car will hold its ground. Imagine it's the break pedal like on an automatic but for manual sticks!
 
Schizophonic, valid points - will give it some more consideration, particularly for £90.
 
I think the main thing Euan has missed is a. 300Ps engine and quattro. The latter is vital to turn a good car into a great one imho

Don't really need roof bars. As for colour not yet decided.

Privacy considered and not required. Hold assist might now add. Storage and luggage not sure if needed. SLine - don't really see value in the benefits, particularly against cost.
 
If leasing check Sline vs sport if you add options.especially xenon. Dead money on sport, standard on Sline and higher RV. Roof bars may be a cheaper way to transport bikes than tow bar !

I'll double check the pricing for the SLine v Sport.

I know what you mean about roof bars, will have a look tonight.
 
Roof rails enhance the look of the SB. Alu on Black/darker colours . Black on silver or white but then you probably need Black pack too and not sure that's worth it, especially on a company car !

Bear in mind that the S-line includes the Xenon lights that you want to spec anyway, so this will offset the extra cost to an extent.

With the S-Line your get Xenon headlights but if you want the same as the (WB6) Xenon Light Package you still have to order the (PXA) Adaptive headlights option which costs an extra £295.
 
Tyre Pressure monitor is a good one at decent price, if my order wasnt now locked id have added it to my order.

Yes good point, but I think the saving is still nearly half the price of the S-line upgrade, which may be persuasive.
 
Where did you get that S-line is £925 more than Sport? It's £2,150 more from where I'm looking!

I always thought the £2,150 is how much more it is on the SE model, and not on the Sport, could be wrong though doesnt definitively say in the brochure, just says equipment in addition to Sport.
 
No, just looked on the configurator and compared S-line to Sport.
 
My bad working from the prices all listed for the individual engines i see it is in Addition to the Sport cost, didnt know it was much, feck.

Think I'll add Hold Assist - could be quite useful given the hills in Glasgow City Centre!

But.. On a lease or private purchase a better model will show enhanced RV (circa 50% of list ) back when car is sold... Do £2 k better car = £1k cost
 
It's not just useful for hills, you'll find it really good. Never have to touch the handbrake again either!

I'll ask the person who we deal with for quotes to give me one in SLine and have the spec match the Sport. Will be interesting to see the cost difference.

Like I said before - I bought my car to drive not to sell.
 
The cost of the SLine would need to be very very close to the Sport for me to consider it.

That's good, but stop stating your resale value facts as though they apply to every purchase, because clearly they don't! (Or in fact tell me I'm 'spending money I don't need to')
 
I think you are being at little ott. Most people keep cars just over 2 years so please take my advice as. 'Generally' sound ;-)

I did some quick mental arithmetic:
The Xenon Light Package on a Sport is £1,250
S-line is approx £2K more than Sport, and another £300 to bring its Xenons up to Xenon Light Package standard. This equals approx £2,300
Therefore when each has the same light package the S-line is only £2,300 minus £1,250 more expensive.
So rounding off, it's only £1,000 more expensive rather than £2,000 when both have the full Xenon packages installed.
Is this correct or have I missed a trick?
 
Most keep their cars just over 2 years, but you say 'Why pay money out you don't need to?'

I think I'll save a HELL of a lot more money getting the spec I want and keeping it longer than getting a trim level I'm not bothered about and changing it after 2 years. Maybe you could do the same and give some of your savings to one of those charities!

I think the previous calculations had something about comfort pack, as that is cheaper when you have the xenon light pack on sport. Is the same true for S-Line + Adaptive?
 
I will have this car for 4 years (the same as I've had the my previous cars for).

Snakehips, yes you're correct - it's just under £1,100 more but for that I don't really get anything that's of value to me.
 
Yes the comfort pack is cheaper with the Xenon package on the Sport £300 saving.
 
Cemeson We have had one of our cars for 34 years and yes I do support charities.

No plans to keep S3 that long but your point about keeping cars for a long time is sound.

Most folks on here probably fit the norm of 2-3 years ownership.

As stated I think you are ott in your challenges.
