Afternoon All,

Soon i will be the proud owner of a 2004 2.5 v6 tdi Quattro Estate.

As the car is completely standard i wondered where the best place to start when it comes to mods, of course the coilovers, and a re-map have already been ordered, but where to go from here?????

Also is the anything i need to be looking out for??

Cheers

Good choice of motor. Is it a Sport or SE model?

I'd hold off on the remap for now, speak to Adamss24 about different turbo option and even injector nozzles (depends on how far you want tune) and then remap it all in.

RS4 rarb is a good mod to add to improve handling. A lot people say don't use the cheap (sub £400/500) coilovers as they don't work too well. I wouldn't know personally.

Then it's subtle mods like led interior lights, number plate lights, alloys etc etc.

Dan

Full DIS, cruise control, puddle lights, arm rest, RS4 rear ARB, 312mm brakes if not already on,

Already got Cruise & Arm rest,
Puddle ligths Defo (loved em on me 8L)
Full DIS Unsure as may chaneg to a non standard HU!
Defo RS4 rear ARB
Will check the brakes
Cheers Mike

Cheers Dan, Had seen that thread and got a bit worried, was even more tempted go the Shock & Spring way as me mate put coils on his EK4 civic and it was a dog until he went back to a the norm!!

I have PM'd Chris so will see, cheers

Not much more to tell! The DIS info is displayed in the centre part of the dash as you know, and not affected by the head unit. If you change to an aftermarket head unit then (to the best of my knowledge) you will lose the radio display on the DIS.

Please tell me if iam wrong here but the simple things then;
EGR Delete / Block
Induction Kit,
De Cat
Nozzles?? (which ones)

EGR can be blanked using a plate from ebay - think I pad about £5 for mine.

Personally I wouldn't bother with an induction kit, the standard one has a cold feed and is good for high power I believe, just swap the filter over for a foam one.

Dont think there are any aftermarket de-cat pipes, the 2.5 has 3 IIRC (a pre-cat off the turbo - you can smash the innards out of it) and two underneath. I paid a local company (St Helens) for a full stainless system - it was only £450.

Nozzles, I think are Bosio 683 - but Adamss24 is the man to speak to about these!

So ya cant get a full replacement pipe and delete the egr??

Yeh was looking at these, i hear the Pipercross is the one to be having!

That seems pretty resnoble, yours has twin pipes aswel, so good price, wo was it in St Helens??

Emailed him but had no response as of yet!

Don't bother with induction kits on diesels they're a complete waste of time. If you can get more cold air to the box then that will help, but there is absolutely no gain from fitting a performance panel filter over the standard paper filter.

Well the 1 i found turned out to be a bit of a dog, so didnt bother.

Of the back of this, i have come across a 2.5 (163) Tdi, now it says quattro on the back the lad said it is not permanent 4wd, anybody give me any clues on this, as i have never heard of these before, as i thought all the quattros were permanent 4wd???????????

Yea, they're all permanent 4wd. Sounds like he doesn't know what he's selling, or worse, he does and he's trying to sell you a fwd with a 99p quattro badge on the back?

My mate seems to think it is the same system they had on the A3's were it was fwd until needed, is this wrong??

My understanding was the B6 quattros were 4wd all the time. And one of the last models to split the power 50/50 front to back rather than favouring the rear as some of the newer models do.

Let others come along to confirm, but this is what I was always lead to believe.

Defintely feels as though it's always 4wd when driving it about.

You are gonna cause a riot with comments like that lol. The A3 has a haldex quattro system which is electronic and does front wheel drive with rears as required and the controller is renowned for dying whereas all A4 quattros are permanent mechanical 4 wheel drive!

All 2.5 TDi quattro's are 180bhp

If it's 163bhp then it's fwd...

And yes, no Haldex was ever used in the B6 range. Ever. Despite what your mate says

PS, from memory the Torsen offers an (up to) 75:25 split?

Cheers James, didnt think it was right, will be having a good look underneath for a prop, no prop no 4wd??

Hahhah always love a good debate hahahah

Just spoke to him, still convinced its a 2003 A4 Tdi Sport (163) avant haldex, he defo aint got a clue lol

Are you hoping it's a 180 quattro or a 163 fwd?

Just a quattro would be nice!

Just put the reg in an insurance web site and on the vehicle spec it has nothing about it been a quattro, like already said a badge dont make it a quattro, will know more when im under it lol

True but insurance can get it wrong as mine keeps coming up as a TDI Quattro but it isnt so no idea why thats happened.

As above, look underneath for diff and rear driveshafts. All quattro's were 180Bhp, they ****** need extra power with the extra weight ! Also early AKE engines are slightly different to the later BDH engines, early ones are euro3 and have larger injectors, later are euro4 and smaller injectors and more limiters in the maps. If you want to tune one then going for an early engine is definitely the way to go !
Also early y and 51 reg had all alloy intercoolers so they can hold more boost without splitting. On stock hardware and a remap they will see 200-210 Bhp, add larger nozzles (BAU allroad are the largest stock fitted nozzles) and you're looking at an extra 10Bhp and 50Nm of torque.
For proper gains you need to ditch the factory blower and get a modern hybrid in there and larger nozzles. Bosio pp683 are 20-40% larger but are designed for AFB-150Bhp injectors so you need to source a set of injectors for that. Going for silly power you will need larger nozzles (bosio race 683, doktores +60% or even the +130% 8 hole nozzles he's selling), ported heads, later BAU/BDG/BDH cam roller heads with solid cams (not entirely necessary but they have less cam gear loses compared to AFB/AKE/AKN/AYM engines), Sachs SRE clutch and a few more bits and bobs. That will make for a very nice driveable car with over 600Nm of torque and loads of midrange pull. Bhp is irrelevant as it's the torque that matters ! Mapping is the next big thing- very few tuners know how to tune these apart from a generic remap so thread carefully ! Adding a 3-4 Bar map sensor in the mix is also a wise move...

Sorry for asking this but what are the pros and cons for this?

Pros:

No gunk clogging up the veins in the turbo
Cleaner, cooler better burn
Possible slight MPG gains

Cons:

Takes slightly longer to warm up in cold weather
If your car is 53reg onwards you will get the EML light on. To get rid of it the EGR needs to be deleted from the map on the ECU.
