Please bare with me.

I rather fancy a Quad pipe setup on my 3.0 TDI, S-line, B8.5.
The current twin pipe job exits through a silver gray plastic moulding with a black honeycomb insert that appears to be seperate part from the bumper? I assume both this sliver grey & black part to be the diffuser?

Am I to assume that I can get another diffuser from Audi that fits my bumper to suit a quad pipe exhaust? would it be an S4 item?

If this is correct? does it come already painted grey & black?

Does the whole bumper need removing to change a diffuser?

Also with reg, to the Milltek exhaust, what is the difference with resonated and non-resonated system.? is it how loud it is?
I spend time on motorways so I dont want extra noise at cruising speeds, but it could sound better when putting your food down, not mention the Quad pipes look better.

Sorry for all the questions

I just spoke to audi coventry and the parts guy said the s line and s4 bumpers are different but maybe he's just going by the book

he knows **** all then
get a reg from an s4 and it will fit
the se is diffrent to the s-line and s4

Have a look here Audi A4 3.0 TDi B8 quattro Saloon and Avant Milltek exhaust

The pictures and video are of a guys car who use to be on here (VRStu)

If you have the S-line you will need:-
S4 lower spoiler (part No. 8K0 807 521 B 1RR)
detailing strip (part No. 8T0 807 791 2ZZ)
Plus Hexagon Socket Flat Head Bolt, 9 bolts I think.

If i recall its about £100+VAT from the dealers

EDIT: my bad, just re-read your post - the above is for B8, not B8.5 - However the principle should be the same just different part numbers…sorry!

Rather like the new black tips Milltek now offer, only in 100mm though, so I may just get to keep my current diffuser and go for the twin pipe setup with these? All these descisions eh?

Thanks for the info.

It won't be much louder with a Milltek unless you have the DPF removed. This makes a lot of difference to the volume.
Most of the videos you see on You tube are cars that have had the DPF gutted.

Had yours done yet mate?

I still got my DPF, I was going to keep it. It looks rather tricky to get at, i.e. expensive to work on

Cheaper than having a perfectly good exhaust system replaced, Most places seem to charge around £5-700 to remove the DPF and remap the car. This would give you more noise, more go, more mpg and more smiles for less than the cost of a Milltek exhaust system.

And an MOT fail ?

I bought the s4 diffuser for my 2.0tdi it fit straight on and I had a custom stainless straight through quad pipe made it is a fare but louder I love the noise it makes, would sound even better out of the 3.0

And an MOT fail ?

If it's gutted it won't fail, the MOT testers will just be looking for the presence of a DPF, I f you have replaced the DPF with a pipe then you may have an issue.

That's what I thought too, but I was talking to a chap at a party over Christmas, and it turned out he is an MOT tester and garage proprietor, so I took the opportunity to ask him about the MOT changes regarding DPF checks, and in a nut she'll he said any car that was manufactured with a DPF and is presented to him with it missing or tampered with will fail automatically. I asked him about detecting gutted filter cases, and he was clear that it's simple to check if the filter isn't there as it will give a higher smoke reading than it should, and the tailpipe and rear silencer will contain soot, which it wouldn't if the filter was functioning correctly. I said what if the tailpipe is wiped clean before the test ? to which he replied that if he suspected that he'd shove a bottle brush up it and see what colour it came out ! He said some folk think he came down in the last shower, but if he suspects the DPF has been tampered with he will fail it and the onus will be on the car owner to prove otherwise. I can't imagine any owners who's car has failed appealing the decision.
The other thing is that the fail will be logged on the system, so taking it elsewhere won't be an option either.
I don't think it's going to be quite so simple to get a legitimate MOT after all.

That mot tester sounds like a bit of a jobs worth to be honest lol

I would say the filter is there, you can see it. And if he disagrees he will need to strip it to check which I doubt he would do as the customer wouldn't be paying for it

Where I live most the mot testers will past most modifications if you bung them 10 or 20 pound even these wheels and tyres got past on my pals R32 last week for £10 lol even with a blatant decat pipe will get past...

Read it and yes we know this, this is what we are talking about, it's an mot fail we know but I'd still do it like I say £10 bung would get me a pass for sure.

£1000 fines a bit steep really isn't it :( ****** spoil sports are our government

It's the same story with decatting, but doesn't stop everyone doing that.

I was not planning on a dpf removal, just a better looking exhaust that was a bit louder.

Thats the point above, the tester only has to suspect it's been tampered with to fail it, the onus is on the owner to prove otherwise, ie you would have to obtain proof that the DPF is fitted and working. You can of course appeal the testers decision, but you're on a hiding to nothing if you have deleted it.

That's ridiculous, those tyres look like they are off the rim, and the rim is proud of the wing. If an mot tester passed that he wants f***ing with a splintered barge pole! I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to drive that pile on the road.

You would have to go to an mot tester that's in a bad mood/took a disliking to you if he insists you have no Dpf when the housing is still in position.

I don't think a big deal will be made of it

Fact of that Golf passing just goes to show it really depends who you get, suprises me that he would run a car that low without bags. If I was an MOT tester (which I'm not) and saw the dpf was there just had a couple welds I would pass it, on a bad day I'd maybe write it as advisory but failing is just harsh.

What about off-road cars that the wheel sticks out further than the wing by about an inch, why do you have to be stupid to drive it I know of dozens of cars around here that have similar tyre stretch and a couple with more, and that pile is most likely worth more than your car :) diesel jake it is on bags lol

regarding the tyres as long as the tread is not out further then the wheel arch it will pass as i have an off roader with chunky tyres and this has just passed,
i am just looking in to getting rid of it as it opens up your power and sounds great
and £20 goes a long way lol:jump:

Wheels don't "stick out" beyond the arches on any car unless they have been illegally modified, off roader or not.
It is stupid to drive a car on the road with stretched tyres because if you get a puncture the tyre bead will drop into the well which is what happens in a blow out, usually resulting in loss of control, which is much more likely as the tyres are stressed out of shape and have to be over inflated to keep them on the rim, properly fitted tubeless tyres usually deflate slowly and stay on the rim if punctured. IMO it's stupid because it puts other road users in danger.
As for value, what is an old Golf with a bent MOT and illegal tyres worth ?

As I said before there are thousands of cars driving around with stretched tyres on, it's his toy which only ever comes out on a weekend and doesn't ever get drove fast but what if he does get a puncture??? What if you or I get a puncture the tyre goes down in both cases. I've got a porsche GT3 with stretched tyres that I take on the track and do 170mph in and that's fine, also another good pal has a 520bhp RX8 with 11J wheels with 225 tyres on which are more stretched than the R32 and he does the British drift championship and his car is safe... As for the value the parts on that car alone will be worth more than mine and your cars together lol 12k in a supercharger kit with launch control, 4.5k air ride it has so much more on it but I'm not listing everything, plus the car has only done 25 000 miles which makes it worth maybe 9.5k standard....

170 in a GT3, is that on a UK circuit ? I've done a few track days but can't think of any circuits where you could get up to 170 in the UK.
I've done 178 indicated, but that was on the Nurburgring on my R1.

thats the things we do is have fun and if we want and done every thing to the line it would be a boring world and i have never had a flat in my off roader and if i do my loss, lorry tyres dont stick out but they make a mess when they go bang and they dont go above 64mph

scotland has got some wicked roads and straight and had a lot more 170mph but not in a car as i only have a diesel lol, on my hayabusa and that was bad enough let alone doing that in a car

165 down back straight of croft no problem in the wet last time I went, spa-francorchamps 170+ the 3 times I've been, silver stone I've done 4 times. What do you go on the track with then???

Here's the car with a full 4 page write up... :)
