Hello all, thought I ought to introduce myself before I launch into asking questions.

I have a (new to me) 2005 A3 2.0tdi DSG S-Line (an 8P1 - in fact must be a very very late 8P1 as its an '05). Had it just three weeks now after selling a 2004 Mini Cooper S - sold that as the MPG at 26 was killing me on my 40 mile daily commute. The A3 averages nearer 50!!!

Prior to the A3, had the Mini as mentioned, before that a 2009 E89 BMW Z4 3.0 Twin Turbo(!!) for 18 months, a mk3 MX-5 for about 5 years, and two Eunos Roadsters before that - from 1999 to 2005.

So having sold the Mini I got this Audi, in a private sale from a guy in Derby. Looked at about 10 cars in total, before settling on this. Seemed to be plenty around that were listed as excellent but clearly weren't. Scuffed alloys, mismatched tyres, rust patches(!) and so on. THis was the best I could afford, but sadly has it's own share of issues....(more to come).

Already sorted a few niggles with it from other posts on here - replaced broken front fog light, replaced leaking rear wash/wipe, in the process of fixing seat that doesn't slide when it folds (awaiting parts). THinking it needs alternator pulley replacing as that squeeks and Turbo has overboosted a few times already (!!!!!!) I have had this happen on my o/h's Passat 130PD and fixed that with the Mr Muscle VNT clean.

Anyway, intro over, I have a question...

My car is listed on the V5 as being a 'sport' however, the badges on the rubbing strips of my car and my steering wheel suggest its an S-Line. I have the half leather seats, 18" alloys and stupidly jiggly suspension.

What's the difference between a Sport and an S Line?

If mine is an S-Line should it have an S-Line badge on the grille?

Not v good pic taken this morning in the rain.

A3 wet

Cheers

David

Thanks Sandra, will do.

First 'mod' and not repair is to change the 501 sidelights to something a little whiter. Not fussed for LEDs (do LEDs ****** up CAN on the early 8Ps?) followed by probably some new mats - rock n roll...

cheers,

David

Welcome David.
Speak to T8ups, he sells LEDs that should work for you.
A decent mod that will completely change your car, is to change the front bumper and bonet to the single grill style.

Much as I'd love to do the facelift bumper I'm on a massively strict budget, hence buying a 'dirty diesel' to replace my Cooper S.

Hi David! Welcome to the forum, from experience I can tell you everyone on this forum is amazingly helpful! I'm trying to give back to it as I've had a lot of help in the past!

I have a very similar A3, mine is an 04 but it has S Line badges all over it... Except the front grill. I read somewhere that although the S Line bits could be specced and were put on the car officially, the proper S Line model wasn't released till later. So that means ours are listed as Sport but are more or less S Line in every way. Does yours have the perforated steering wheel also?

I too had the folding seat problem, my issue was a broken clip that was supposed to hold a cable tight against the frame of the seat. I simply replaced the clips with new Audi ones for 60p a pop I think, the newer ones are also strengthened so should last a bit longer! Seats work perfectly now.

I've also bought lots of LED's off of Trups and can't recommend him enough!

Enjoy the A3 they really are brilliant cars! :)

Yes, have the perforated steering wheel, and dark headlining too (forgive me not that clued up on what each spec/model has).

I was more interested in which wheels it had and colour it was (!!) for my very limited budget.

Some more pics of mine here (crap ones I know, sorry)

One very peculiar thing I noticed on my car, the centre seat belt in the back has been installed wrongly, and the buckle is BELOW the little plastic tab, meaning I can't use the belt.

I've tried to force it up past it, but it won't go past is and has made the belt surrounding it go funny. I have searched online and spotted one other person with a similar issue.

Wonder if its been like this since new?

Seatbelt

Very odd

Yeah sounds very similar to mine, although mine has a few more extras judging by the exterior of your car.

Haha! That's totally fair enough, my wheels all came slightly scuffed and it's one of the few things that let my car down as I've been able to sort all the other small issues. I'm very jealous of your perfect wheels!

Only really the side lights I guess, the rest of the bulbs are H7's and will probs go with some Phillips X-Treme visions for main headlights.

My Mini had proper HIDs and I miss them to be honest, but not too bothered about HIDs on the A3 and the issues that (might) go with them.

So just the 501s? Can you DM me with more info?

thanks

David
