As above I need to find a engine for my a3 with the code BDB but I've seen a few 3.2 engines with different codes, does anyone know if any other engine codes will fit, as the couple I have found with the right code people are asking nearly 2k for a second hand engine

not sure on this one but what's wrong with it could it be rebuilt ?

2k fitted with a 6month warranty was the best deal I found for a BDB when I was looking.

As Chillout says, just fix yours. Piece of **** :)

To be honest I'm not sure what has happened to the engine I have brought it blind and just been told needs a engine, I'm assuming its slung a rod, bottom end gone or chain snapped first 2 I don't think cost wise would be worth repairing snapped chain may be cheaper to repair, it's been recovered in to me tonight so I will have a look in the morning and try and work out to what extent the damage is fingers crossed its repairable

Your probably right if it's that badly damaged. Even if chains have gone new head would be a grand and probably would have damaged the pistons as they are soft as sh1t.

Are you familiar with the engine?

Ive been a mechanic for 15 years I've rebuilt a 12v vr6 engine with a snapped chain but not the 24v vr6 but I don't mind getting involved, I'm thinking cost wise if I can pick a engine up for 1k I will do that but 1600-2000 is a joke for a 10 year old car engine and would be pushing the limit to what the car is worth

Oh your laughing then. It'll be half hour job for a pro.

Don't think you will find one that cheap. Although with trade connections you may be lucky.

I've been offered one for £1200 I've offered 1k cause you never know your luck and it seems like chain issues are standard so I'm thinking replace these while I got the engine out then hopefully it will be running within a few weeks

Just done my chains. About £250 for chains rails and tensioners (parts only). I didn't replace the vvt's too expensive.

The car going to be for you or are you selling it on?

I think I will keep it for a while till I get bored as its a nice looking car, and should go well enough

They go very well when they work. Keep us informed on how you get on.

Yer I won't do the vvt's but I don't fancy fitting the engine to find problems with the chains, I will get it up in the air tomorrow and try and work out why they say it needs a engine

The battery was flat when I tries yesterday but its on charge so will be turning the key shortly there are no holes in the engine that I can see which is a good sign but there is no oil showing on the dip stick which is not so good

well new battery fitted as the old was was dead, and still wont turn over, after taking the lower cover off the oil filter housing has cracked, removed sump plug and no oil came out, crank is seized solid so its back on the case for a engine oh well, i can get one for £1150 with 3 months warranty so i think that's going to be the way to go looks pretty straight forward to get it out

What's happened there then? Has someone been driving it with no oil? how does it crack is it impact damage?

1150 is a good price. Should have yourself a nice car soon.

It does not look like impact damage as the lower cover looks perfect I'm not sure if someone has over tightened it when it was serviced but it's got no history with it so who knows but yer hopefully it needs a bit of work on the outside, wheels need a refurb but it should be nice once it's running and hopefully will not work out costing to much
Inside is mint and back seats don't look like they have ever been used but with only 40k I would hope its mint inside

Well managed to find a engine for under £1000 with engine code bub out of a r32 with 40k on the clock so yesterday we pulled the engine I had to swap the sump due to the new engine having a cracked sump and was pleased to see its mint inside all was going well till we noticed the plugs were different on the cam sensor, and the cam sensors were different sizes so can't be swapped over, after checking wiring diagrams the sensors both work in the same way, so the hunt was on for the right 3 pin plugs which are the same as the air con pressure switch managed to find one on a golf going for scrap and cut the plug off the air con pressure switch on the car as running the engine was more important than air con I will order a new plug Monday for that, and it all runs sweet only managed 10 miles as no tax or mot but all seems well and was surprisingly easy to do took 6 hours from pushing it in to driving it out with 2 off us

6 hours is ****** good going. Excellent news, is that the only difference between the Bdb and bub then?

I was surprised how easy it was and how quick we done it, the engine was on the floor in a hour and half but once the front is off and inlet manifold there is loads of room around the engine , and yes that's the only difference I could spot but lucky we managed to find the different plugs for the cam sensor

I bought a engine for a e46m3 for 400quid, bought it sell for parts as I thought there's no way you can buy an engine for £400 and it be ok and a runner, the guy I bought if off said it had only done 30,000 miles and had history for it, came out of a car that had been in storage with rear end damage where insurance company wouldn't pay sorage fee's. So after keeping the car for 6 years they decided to sell the parts off it, but because they had spelling mistakes on there eBay listing I was the only one to bid , and thought it's going to be a sh17er but when I got it home it looked mint, had my mate at bmw do a check on the engine that came up all right and history match the engine, so I started thinking I may fit it in a water damaged M I had bought , so I got him to check every thing was ok with the engine, and fitted it one Saturday on my own, at chouldnt believe it when I turned the key and it's aounded great, couldn't believe it, for £400 and never had a problem with it , just go's to show sometime you can buy a really cheap engine and it still be a good bargain , hope it go's well for you fella , there's loads of the bub engines around and it's the most pop engine fitted in the R 32
