Hi all,

Forgot to ask this before but I think I'm right saying each S3 comes with 2 SD card slots, 1 will be used for sat nav if and when fitted and the other for music storage and the likes?

I was wondering how large an SD storage capacity can the car handle?

Last question, with most cars you need to spec a spare wheel, is the A3 different and u always get a wheel?

With the SD- yes you are correct in that there are two. I think the total max size you can have is 64GB?

Why anyone needs more than that is beyond me unless they are using their card as a secondary back up.

Not sure on the S3 about the spare wheel but you ALWAYS get a spare wheel. Even if you opt for the B&O sound system the sub still manages to sit on top of the spare wheel.

Never heard of specing a spare wheel...

My last A1 as with a number of cars now come with tyre weld goop rather than a spare wheel. In the current climate of better MPG alongside the reality most peole dont get punctures so often its not actually a bad idea. The A3 being a smaller car would have been a good candidate for the no spare wheel as standard. Im a little happier it isnt, I still like the confidence of a real wheel (space saver) if needed. Not so long ago the spare wheel was a real wheel, and some cars even had the spare on a matching alloy wheel.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)
I'm looking at a 64gb SD as my music library is over 32gb already.

As for the spare wheel I'm glad we get a spare, our new octavia we had to spec it :( same with many other cars like the Q5 etc

The sd slots can take up to 2tb cards according to the specs...

You only get a spare if you spec it on the A3 now as well - that's a recent change. By default it comes without one now, unless you order the towbar, or either of the upgraded sound systems (I presume just so the sub has somewhere to sit!). That's how it is on the configurator now anyway. I'm glad I have one though, needed to use it when my car was barely 2 weeks old! Tyre goop would have done nothing for the puncture I had, it was total tyre annihilation!

Do you think the spare wheel well would actually take a full-size wheel and tyre. With my existing 8P Sportback I have some foam parts that I purchased from Audi which build-up the floor level so that I can carry a full-size steel wheel and tyre as the spare. This is mainly because I don't fancy a space-saver when I'm on my long runs through France to Germany and also as I normally go on a Sunday the chances of getting anyone to sort out a new tyre in France on a Sunday is a bit remote.

Mind you the last time I had a puncture I had to call Audi On-Call because I could not get the alloy wheel to part from the hub. The RAC chap said it is quite common and they have a rubber hammer with a lead weight inside the head which usually does the trick.

I know from putting my wheel in there when I had to use a space saver that it does fit, as long as the boot floor is in the higher position. I didn't try to put the sub in either, just kept it separate until I had the tyre fixed.

Thanks, that's nice to know. Audi always used to supply a large strong plastic bag to put the damaged wheel and tyre in. It was part of the tool kit in the luggage area. Do they still do this.

I haven't noticed, not tried looking for it. Didn't notice it in the tool kit with the locking wheel nut and brace though, but don't think I'd have bothered anyway. Suppose it would be useful if you were just dumping it in the boot or something but I just put it back under the boot floor.

Never had this on my last audis unless I missed it. Sorry

It was certainly there on my 2007, 2009 and my current 2012. I used on the 2007 and 2009 to put my full-size spare into so that I could carry it inside the car, behind the passenger seat. With my current 2012 I purchased some foam parts from Audi which build up the floor so that the spare can be carried under the floor in the luggage area.

Probably not, I had ipod one in the glove box which might be the standard token offering but I can't see them saying no on collection after having shelled out so much on the car if you ask nicely.

I got a USB cable and iphone 4 cable free with my car.

Aside from the difference in capacity, is their any difference in functionality between using a portable HD over an iPod touch? I ask because I have both, could really do with keeping the iPod at home as a Sonos controller. My car's going to have the tech pack with Audi connect.

Wait... What? When did they remove the spare wheel? Arghhh was glad that they weren't giving away that stupid goop anymore!

Anyone know how much the space saver wheel is?

Only in combination with towbar, Audi sound system or B&O. You have to have one (or more) or those in order to have the spare wheel, and the wheel is free then. It doesn't seem to let you select the wheel only, even as a paid option.

Interesting - it did earlier on a a3 SB 1.8tfsi manual I created? (Wasn't a Quattro).

Didn't have any other options ticked and it let me??

Oh, when I pick the spare for the 2.0 TDI it makes me select one of those in addition

Brilliant mate, had no idea you could do that :)

Are you meant to get cables free?

You should get at least 1 free. I got an iphone cable and a normal usb one. I think there are 5 available, the 2 i got plus a micro usb, aux and i think there is a new style iphone one.

Si.

I wouldn't have thought so, you just plug in and control through the MMI. Not sure how Apple file structure works as i've never had an iProduct. I'm sure i read on here somewhere that you can play videos through tech pack with an iPod though. Not sure if it'll work from HDD as i've only got the SD sat nav upgrade.

Si.

Hi Guys, Happy New 8V Year

If you look in "Standard Equipment" tab in the A3 configurator it says Space Saver is standard without the sound system upgrade. On the 8P you had to order it separately in place of gloop at the dealers. No gloop on the 8V

Without roof rails
Xenon Plus headlights
Tyres

Anti-theft wheel bolts
Space-saving spare wheel
Tool kit and car jack
18” x 7.5J ‘5-parallel spoke’ design part-polished alloy wheels with 225/40 R18 tyres
Interior

Aluminium interior elements
Cloth headlining in black

There are a lot more than 5 available, there are several video ones, a mini USB as well, another different Apple one (red / blue collars, they look the same other than that), all sorts

Could be a mistake from when it changed though - worth checking this is actually the case.

Have the b&o, so hope this hasn't changed... Will be calling dealer tomoz to check!!

Would be very surprised if you don't get the spare then, as the sub for the 2 sound systems needs one to sit in!
