I have been informed that Audi will announce a price increase in new cars from 1 January 2014 in South Africa. This has already be in the news for India see http://www.firstpost.com/business/from-jan-2014-mercedes-bmw-audi-to-cost-more-in-india-1270807.html. Does anybody have more info on this ? Is this going to be a global thing now ? Spoke to my dealer this morning, expecting my new car 16 January 2014. Could not give me a final quote due to an increase of possible 3-5 %. What about cars that has been ordered October 2013 ? Do we have price protection ?

I would imagine if you have pre ordered you have price you've already agreed to pay so can't imagine you would be expected to pay more. You not got the small print to read if it says anything on there

Small print is standard here. "Audi reserves the right to change price and specs without prior notification" something along these lines....

If they want to up the price on an existing order, just cancel it and kick up a fuss. Make sure the dealer and Audi UK are aware of how bs that practice is (even if they had it in the small print).

When you say the dealer couldn't give you a final quote, does that mean you didn't agree on a price when you placed the order?

I told my dealer I' am prepared to pay the full price as it is now, cash. He refused and said they are expecting a price increase and we should wait until my car is there (ship ports 16 January 2014)

I am for sure going to make a hudge fuss about it

yeah if you haven't paid a deposit then just threaten to cancel if they try and push a price increase on you. id be shocked if they make someone who has ordered before the date of the price increase

You are right Andy, I have paid my deposit Oct 2013 already on ordering. Lets see what happens. See all the s$%t flying around ???

how much deposit did you pay if you don't mind me asking,
what audi have you ordered?

I still can't see Audi increasing the price on an existing order. Small print doesn't matter - the understanding was that this is the price, for which the car will be purchased - and the clause wasn't brought to attention of the customer. This plus bad press for Audi / dealer and possible unfair trading...

Agreed, will see what happens. This is actually what the Sales Manager told me. Will complain at Audi South-Africa if necessary

Oh I didn't realize you're from South Africa - so not sure what's the legal position, but I'm sure there is some kind of similar consumer protection.

I know what I'd be saying if they tried it with me lol only thing is if you told them to shove the car you'd most probably lose your deposit. I'm sure it won't come to that though. Keep the thread updated pieterw, will be interesting to know the outcome for you

Exactly what is going to happen, people standing ques to buy the new S3. Just pass it on to another customer and losing deposit. Will let you know the outcome :gun2:

More or less the same legal position as in Europe. We do have a new good Consumer Protection Law, will obviously use it if necessary !!

Why would you lose the deposit? I cancelled a new build car a month after ordering once(got a much better deal elsewhere), I only gave then a £200 deposit, they sent it me back through the post.

What would the purpose of a deposit then be ? If they want to be nasty they can keep it or not ?

Proof that you are a serious buyer? They can't just keep the whole lot? I actually told them I had to cancel, as I couldn't afford the insurance, maybe they thought I was being genuine, and gave me a refund? I did write it off at the time, as another dealer matched the price and gave me the next model up! lol
