If there's the same gap as the 8P RS3 between the A3 launch and RS3 launch, you can expect it around 2020

You can't even order S3 LED lights yet, never mind an RS3

This could be an EXTREMELY long count down thread !

2015 at the very earliest is my best guess.

The 8P launch in 2003 was followed by an S3 in 2007. The 8V launch in 2012 was followed by the S3 in 2013. I think we can shelve all preconceptions.

RS models used to be utilised to boost run-out models at end of life. They also tended to really limit the number of models bearing the badge at any one time.... not any more!

My guess is 2-3 years at the outside. With the success of the 8V, they'll want to cash in.

Crikey!

At least let those of us waiting for our S3s have our moment in the sun. :)

My money would be on a mid to late 2015 launch. Based on the desire to keep interest in the range and the fact that nothing has been seen testing. It might coincide with a mid life face lift as well.

If it arrives early in the lifecycle, we might even"plus" model later.

Agree, if you look at model and variant evolution time per model across the industry the overall lifecycle has come down from something like 7 to 4 years in the last few years.

I reckon it'll follow on straight after they've finished launching all the other variants. A3, Sportback, S3, S3 Sport back, Saloon, S3 Saloon, etron, Cabriolet, then RS3.

Agree, they don't want to loose out on that market segment that currently belongs to the A45 AMG.

I've been getting itchy feet of late and wondering whether to sell my 8P S3 for an 8P RS3 or wait it out for an 8V RS3.

My only Reservation with an 8P RS3 is that they've all been brutally used (Track Days, Launched, REVO'd.....etc) and had the 'Jacobs' thrashed of them whereas I should've purchased from new a bit like my current S3.

Absolutely nothing wrong with my S3, simply fancy a change (and dont hate me for saying this) but I thought my next move would've been an M3 or Gen II 997. I am happy to wait it out for a 8V RS3 in the meantime.

Thoughts?

Cheers, KKP

Please don't shoot me but I did see a road test that claimed the 8V S3 was quicker and handled better than the 8P RS3. I'll see if I an find a link to that test. The test report did go on to say the reason was the increased power the new S3 had over the old S3 and the reduced weight compared to the RS3 particularly with the nose on that being heavy due to the five cylinder engine.

wish they'd put a decnt engine in the rs4, id have one of those instead

Thanks for the link Steeve. Not wanting to offend but the current S3 8V owners is understated. I will wait for a 8V RS3 or look beyond. Cheers

I heard through an audi dealer that the rs3 will have between 360-380bhp lighter than a a45 amg and do around 4 secs to 60 he seemed very knowledgable on the subject and said he had just come back from audi in Germany

Sounds fairly promising though

The old RS3 was barely any quicker than the new 8V S3 as it was 160kg heavier.. like carrying around a couple of passengers.

The new RS3 when it emerges, my guess is 2015 in UK, will have to push out at least 370PS to satisfy enthusiasts and P155 all over the competition. My understanding is that dealers have been given a preview of plans and prototypes are no doubt being tested! The use of the 5 pot is still not completely certain but not sure they would just upgrade the 8VS3 300PS - would they?

I agree that the new RS3, the 8V based vehicle will be something stunning, however my comments were made as the Gentleman had mentioned trading his S3 in for an 8P RS3. Something I find strange.

Hope they do a 3-door version and not just a sportback like last time.

Hope theres a three door variant.

I guess the price would be about £45-£50k, might have to start saving for a deposit now then

I'll definitely be having an RS3 if they do a 3 door! Not a chance if it's £45-50k though, I'd rather have an RS4 for that money.
I'm sure it'll be about £40k like the 8P.

Dont want the 5 doors, or even four doors. Im surprised if the larger heavier SB handles better longer wheelbase v extra weight I guess.

But I really think Audi need to make the RS3 a saloon which is where I think the RS3 will appear, but who knows.

Have a look on the Audi website, they list all the RS cars together, RS4 starts at £55,525 The difference between the S3 and S4 is around £10k. The only thing that could cause a problem with the pricing is the mercedes A45AMG, and RS3 would have to really leave it behind to justify any big increase in cost, Im still enjoying the S3. Not sure an RS3 would temp me, but then thats because it doesnt exist yet

Just to be clear, I have an 8P S3

The greater wheelbase gives better handling. Certainly that's been my experience with 3dr vs 5dr 8P.

With a longer wheelbase, a greater distance generally equals better stability and lower centre of gravity. (or so an article I Googled confirmed!)

The extra 30Kg would more than offset the shift in centre of gravity caused by the increase in wheelbase.

I think it doesn't matter about splitting hairs..........

The 8p3 s3 was brill, the rs3 was epic........
The new 8v s3 is quicker than the 8p rs3 just and is getting rave reviews by most and everyone at audi I've spoke to......

And I for one cannot wait for the new 8v rs3 , I don't care what variant it is or what it looks like if it is "better" then the 8v s3 than I will beg steal or save up for one! :)

I think you will find the 8P RS3 is faster than an 8V S3 !!!

Maximum speed155 mph
Acceleration (0-60mph)4.6 secs
Max torque250 Nm
Max torque imperial184.4 lb/ft
Cubic Capacity (cc)2480
Power (ps)335

my understanding is the RS3 SB and saloon are set to look something like this..

Audi rs3 sedan pr walker render photoshop 1000

which IMO is what perfect looks like. Particularly the SB.
