Mansfield isn't far where Shark performance is. They remapped mine, you also have R-Tech relatively close and I'd imagine a Revo dealer would be close by also.

I went to Shark HQ in Mansfield eventually. I bought the STS device but was not impressed with the tame map on it so went to see them myself and had it done there along with my DSG remap.

R-Tech did a super job on our Mk iv 1.8T a few months ago. Some people travel along way for Nick to work his magic on their cars.

I had Rtech map my mk5 gti to stage two saw good figures and was amazing to drive even swayed my dad who's really into cars and against me getting a map!

Is there any difference between the £500 apr remap compared to the £169 remaps?

With the APR map you can toggle through some menu providing you have a cruise stalk. Who provides maps for 169? I personally would only go to reputable mappers.

I agree with XFi I would only use the likes of Revo Apr giac. The thing that sold Rtech to me is it being a fully custom map. So you can have it drive how you want it to within safe limits of the hardware. I've also received very good after service from Revo. Youl be happy with any it the reputable names of boils down to who you trust imo.

Previously looking to keep my S3 8P in stock form but now thinking of going stage 1. As i'm completely clueless when it comes to such things I was looking for recommendations in Nottingham/Derbyshire.

Unicorn (Stockport) can also provide switchable maps via Android and a OBDII reader. A bit further to drive but it's a map that's bespoke to your car, not a map that's for a car like yours..

I would walk away from any deal like that. Reminds me of a van turning up on my drive and offering to tarmac it there and then!

Not at all , and most cost effective value for money .

The reputation of the installer and of the map's author is all you need to know .

Wouldn't hesitate if the map was from for example the European tuning houses of Medusa , BR-Performance , UPsolute , etc .

As a novice regarding this tuning game, stick to R-Tech in Hinckley.
Back in 2013, I replied to this thread after having my 1.8T mapped there. 4 years later, I have done a further 45,000 miles and the car runs very well. My son had his TTS mapped there this year with no problems.
