Some help decifering my RR printout & troubleshooting issues

Hello chaps. Hope you can help me. :)

I took the car to a local organised rolling road day on Saturday. I'd never been to one and was looking forward to seeing what it was putting out, however, I was more interested in the graph as I'm aware that it's not exactly been running the way I want it.

It's a 2002 BAM engined car and when I bought the car the only engine mods that I was aware of was an unknown map, and the cats opened, gutted and rewelded. Since I've owned the car I've put on a Forge 007p, Badger 5 TIP, a K&N panel filter and replaced the original air filter box with another one which had been drilled.

Not long after I got the car I ran a few logs on VAGCOM and posted the results on here. This was before I installed the Badger 5 TIP and you guys helped me decifer the results back then at approx 256bhp, so I was a bit disappointed with 243bhp on the rollers. The logs also showed that it wasnt hitting requested boost.

The graph shows a few spikes low down the revs. Any thoughts on where I should start looking for issues?

Is the torque curve typical of a stage 1 remap? I always thought it was quite an aggressive map to what I'd like.

First thoughts in respect of the spikes are a tired actuator. I've looked for boost leaks on the higher up pipes and not found anything. Still need to check lower ones.

Finally, I'm wondering if I should consider replacing the coil packs. A month ago the car started misfiring on startup, only if I've left the car a week or so in the garage. After about 15secs it stops.

I'm going away for a week at the end of the month and leaving the car at a friend's to get a downpipe made up. I'm thinking I should get the rest sorted out whilst it's off the road.

you'l notice hp follows the same sort of trned as torque with its spikes and troughs, thats because hp is calculated from torque.
i can also see you had it done in 4wd, haldex cars should be dyno'd in fwd, hence why you have a rough power curve.
this may have an effect on overall power too.

it looks typical of a stage one to me from what i've seen, with it dropping off at top end. the dip at 6.5k is a little odd.

you say its not meeting requested, get a smoke test done. and a 2wd dyno run.
maybe post some logs for people to see
 
Didn't realise it's preferable for them to be done FWD. I did notice a guy doing this with his R32 and thought he was just going for glory figures lol
 
Mine kept doing that dip at 6.5 k too... strange...
I bet if you posted "load" logs up you'll see a big dip in the load as the protection kicks in.cough cough , mapping issue.
 
just out of interest was the post CAT o2 sensor mapped out or spaced? or do you constantly see a fault code for this?

Look at your power curve

the bhp and torque dont cross at 5252 witch it should do, so your power graph is not correct

simple maths and this is how it works

torque x rpm / by 5252 gives you your bhp figure
 
he is right HP = (Torque (ft.lbs) x rpm)/5252

but if you look at the plot the curves cross at 5252rpm near enough

Sorry for not replying before now, but thanks for all the posts so far :)

I'm leaving the car off at the end of next week to get some bits and pieces done so will report back with logs when I get back from my hols. Unfortunately I dont have access to vagcom myself and the laptop originally used way back in February to do my original log has died. Alex, I'm pretty sure the post cat sensor was mapped out by whoever mapped it. I never get warning lights for it.

Since I posted my RR figures last year I left the car off at a friends who fabricated a custom downpipe for me and removed the cats. He also went looking for boost leaks incase that was a possible issue for my strange spikey readings. He found the turbo pipe had tears in it so replaced it with a Forge replacement.

Anyways, the improved results were noticeable on the road and I left any further modifications for a while. Another RR day came up recently at the same venue as last year and I decided to take the S3 and see how it did compared to last year on the same rollers with the new dp and turbo pipe.

The results were slightly down on last year but more worryingly a more pronounced dip around 3,000rpm than a similar dip last year around the same level. The rest of the graph is still quite spikey.



I ran the car on 4WD rollers again as I thought it would give a more accurate comparison over last year. Also after reading some bits and bobs online I was worried about possible damage to the Haldex.

Aside from the spikiness, does anyone have any theories about the dip? Would it be slip, or more a long running issue that I've had prior to the RR last year? Would a bad coil pack show up like this?

Just to add, I am also getting concerned about the map on the car. It had been mapped prior to purchase and I don't know who did it. The previous owner didn't even know it had been mapped but VAGCOM logs that I'd done soon after buying the car were in line with what to expect from a mapped car.

Since then I have modified the car with the biggest mods probably being the Badger 5 TIP and downpipe. No doubt its time to get a more custom map done to accommodate the changes and I'm hoping to do this around February time, but would my modifications over a standard map cause results like the above?

i wonder if the dip is where the rears are kicking in as it near the boost point and where the haldex will start to give more power to the rear. Pull fuse 31 and run it in fwd for a better reading..
