Hi guys, Recently encountered an issue with my A3 (2.0tfsi, manual). At low-ish revs, changing down in to 2nd or 1st gear (for example when parking), when the clutch engages the whole car "thuds" in to gear. It feels almost like the engine shifts and makes a dull audible thud. It doesn't matter how slowly I bring the clutch up, but as soon as the biting point is reached it does it. If I change down at unnaturally high revs it is OK. Doesn't feel normal. I have had a Sachs organic in for 6 months and has been fine, recently popped TBE on. Any ideas?

I get a bit of a clunk from time to time too mainly changing to second or third if I let the clutch up too sharpish. Think it might be the gearbox mount

Once im in gear, its fine going clutch up/down, it's just the initial change at low speed/low revs. Its a bit of a lurch of engine braking but quite violent. Feels like a mount of some kind, or something in the front end shifting. Once the clunk happens, all is normal. The drive to the wheels doesn't surge as far as I can tell. Feels like the clutch "snaps" engaged and moves something heavy.

Odd

Pretty much the same no surging to the wheels it's just that initial bite that makes the clunk but I can minimise mine by being real gentle with the clutch.. It is odd was going to wait to see if it gets worse as it's hard to pin point what it is

When going 3rd->2nd, if I treat it like going N->1st and bring the revs up a bit it is OK.

The clunk doesnt feel like anti-stall or too low revs, just a mechanical "something" at the frontend. The part of me with mechanical sympathy goes "that aint right".

Same it's a dull clunk not a knock like something very heavy moving forward. Something is a miss sure it's a mount of sorts

mine seems to be intermittent / in a very small range of revs/speeds/clutch movements. Was trying to reproduce while out this evening and it seemed fine. Anyway, at least im not the only one or my clutch isn't going lol

If you find out what it is let me know and I will do the same :)

If either of you find out what it is, let me know as your problems sound just like mine in my A3.

Always get a thud when clutch bites going into 2nd etc. Seems to be worse going from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.

If you are driving spiritedly I bet damn glad I'm not the only one

I dont get clunks/mass shift changing up, just down at low speeds and low revs.

What clutch you running? Might just be the nature of our clutches?

Just standard clutch mate.

Doesn't bother me too much but I've tried to find out what it is the past and most replies to threads on here tend to point to gearbox mounts.

Standard clutch and I agree doesn't worry me but I think it's gb mount

Mine does the same on a 12 plate too. Low speed and only between 1st 2nd and third and also only seems to do it from cold
