What the hell does fanboy mean?
D'oh! Didn't refresh before posting
The whole fanboy notion is ridiculous and stupid. I read a comment on another thread where someone who liked a particular smart phone, and wanted it, didn't get one because he feared being thought of as a fanboy.
What?!
So in summary:
1. Quattro is far superior
2. DazAuto has Quattro envy.
Think that just about covers it.

Those are my summer tyres. They are very good. Going to try Conti next. Looks they have better wet handling/stopping which is important to me.I used Goodyear eagle f1's last winter and didn't slip spin or slide once a4 fwd had no problems
Agree: Quattro has far superior traction and handling. But no better stopping power.
How exactly do you work out from my posts that I have Quattro envy?
I'm just researching the pros and cons.
Pros - better traction, better handling.
Cons - 40 litre less boot space, 7-8% heavier, same or worse braking distance.
Does that about cover it?
Very well put. And you are a Quattro driver!?A good point - and one that many quattro drivers try to forget or ignore.
quattro makes the most of the available grip to get, and keep, you moving but when it comes to stopping it's no better than FWD or RWD.
Moot point eh? You need to contact Audi and tell them they got it all wrong! They wasted a lot of time and effort reducing the weight of their A3 by 80kg. They say that will help improve the performance and handling of their cars. You need to contact Audi and tell them they actually need to carefully distribute 105kg to their A3. Tell them the 80kg reduction is a moot point and will have no effect on the performance and handling!Your point about the extra weight is moot, I don't have a half of the transmission simply piled up in the loadspace of my Avant it is evenly distributed around the car. You will also probably find that extra weight over the axles is an advantage in terms of traction.
So we all agree that for your average driver quattro is best and it you are a spot on driver as most on here will be otherwise they wouldnt be on here or any other car forum for that matter, fwd is good enough? But in my mind why struggle or have the nagging doubt you may not get where you are going.Plus you arent going to get the tortured fwd front diff that your average driver is going to push until it stops/breaks, you all must have either seen this every time it snows or done it yourself?Little comparison, I own and drive 2 old land rovers, one is part time 4wd other full time 4wd, the part time one will often spin up a wheel coming out of a damp roundabout, the full time 4wd one never ever does this, same engines, tyres etc, same off road, in 2wd hit a hole or bump, bounce goes the wheel, engine revs rise wheel spins up, wheel hits floor and snaps half shaft, i really enjoyed that day!
plenty of BMWs and Mercs in Stockholm during the winter... perfectly fine in the snow with winter tyres.

Something we agree on.Top and bottom of it, Quattro's are a much nicer car to drive, but you would be crazy to buy one because you may potentially get one week of snow a year.
My car does not have a clutch pedal. You are still wrong on braking distances by the way, the only way a 4wd would take longer to stop than a comparable 2wd is if both drivers put thier foot on the clutch then brakes, your formula doesn't take into account any braking that may be done through the transmission/engine.
Enjoy!he's says with 2 quattro's and a Jeep...
I wish I was a Quattro driver - Quattro's are iconic and as rare as hen's teeth. But I am a quattro driver...Very well put. And you are a Quattro driver!?
Good post.Actually, I think it's about time everyone stopped trying to force-feed their opinion onto everyone else and instead agree that everyone had given their opinions, they are not all the same, and no one is under any obligation to adopt someone else's opinion.
But in winter, winter tyres are safer! Read the topic heading!
Good post.
But this is not about opinions this is about facts.
Quatttro is excellent. It will help me go fast in all conditions.
But in winter, winter tyres are safer! Read the topic heading!
I think 4 videos have been provided that demonstrate this fact!
Where are all the videos showing how SUPERIOR Quattro is vs winter tyres in winter?
Fitted a full set of winter tyres to the quattro last weekend.
Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme for those who are interested (225/40/R18). Only that and the Michelin's meet the correct speed rating for my vehicle in the winter tyre range.
Just saying...
Hi, Azeem
Mind if I ask how much the set cost?
