What have you done today?

Yesterday I got a new windscreen fitted, stripped, greased and rebuilt the wiper rack, fitted a new thermostat, header tank and fresh coolant, and fitted some xtreme vision bulbs to dipped beam which has highlighted that one light is aiming low.

Today i replaced the rear diff for a lower milage one as i think mine was duff and it seems to have sorted my problem will see how it pans out !!!

i also realigned the exhaust so its more centre to the bumper and i think i nailed that too :)

so all in all a good productive day !!

Half fitted my missus a reversing camera. I say half as Peugeot don't seem to nail anything together very well making it a pain in the **** to work on

Seen these ages ago but thought I'd see what they were like, quite like it though.
Logp audi

totally agree i worked for peugeot and now at citroen and they are crap the french dont half make things complicated lol

Earlier in the week i talked about centre caps for the Boleros, i fitted them the other day and took some pics, so just uploading now.

The caps i bought were these:
Ford Alloy Wheel Centre Caps 63mm...Set of 4 | eBay

Fairly generic ford badged caps, but crucially the correct 63/64mm OD and 55mm mounting lugs.

I simply sprayed them the same color as the wheels and popped them on:

They dont look as good as the proper caps ofcourse, but they fill a hole and cost £10 delivered for 4 rather than £15 each for genuine ones.

Today

I've had a set of PFL rear lights i've been meaning to fit to the avant for yonks, but they had a scuff on them.

I'd sanded the scuff out, but didnt have fine enough paper to sand them smooth again, so they've sat in the garage for ages.

I'm trying to tick off items from my seemingly endless list, so i got stuck into this today, sanded them back with 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500grit sandpaper, before polishing them with Menz 203s (using a buffing wheel in my grinder... shh!) and giving them a couple coats of sealant.

Some pics:

On the lighting theme, i've also had a pair of BiXenon projectors i've been meaning to retro fit into a set of facelift headlamps. I started it ages ago (see the theme here?!) and never got round to finishing it, so i dug them out and got cracked on, using this guide as an outline:

Fix for weak headlights in stock Valeo housings?

I'd already taken apart the headlamp, so i lined up the new projector, and marked out the holes. As mentioned in the other article, one of the holes ends up interfering with the edge of the projector housing, so you need to cut a chunk off the housing to get the screw in. Wasnt too bad though:

Need to strip the other headlamp and repeat!

I'm after some wheel spacers if anyone has any, also fitted a new stereo today :)

Adjusted the physical location of the lights, fitted new track rod ends, and two front top arms (the others where down a few months back).

Booked for its mot on Wednesday, they will do the final beam adjustment for me, although it looks to be pretty good. They ae also fitting a new cv joint and boot for me, and I now need to get them to do the tracking.

A bit worried that the airbag module is taking a while to do its thing in the cold. It can take upto a minute or two before the light goes out when the cabins cold. Is it an MOT failure if the light takes too long to go off?

The cars transformed with the new suspension arms, fast wipers, and thermostat. Hopefully the lights will be much better too now the diivers side light isn't aiming 10ft short.

the garage that did my last mot told me that they have data for all vehicles on how the warning lights behave and how soon they go off after the engine starts bacause his all changed last yesr. I dont know how true that is though.

Replaceing the airbag module is time consuming but not difficult. There are various guides if you google it.

I do intend on fixing it, are they model / varient / year specific? Do they need coding to the car?

Wasn't sure how hard to find a second hand one would be. Unless they are available cheaply new?

I plan to make sure its warm when I drop it off, if they leave it outside for most of the day before getting to it (I need to drop it off an hour before the garage open), then its outta my control. Maybe I need to take it for a half hour drive before I drop it off to make sure its warm through.

Hmm, i'd be booking a slot during the day and taking it there for the slot.

I never leave my car with them, i take it along at the time the test is booked for and wait for them to complete the test.

You're loving the wrapping lol.Today I changed a bulb. oooooooooooo what a life I live in this fast pass world of car enthusiasts, I need to sit down before I do to much and have a break down.

Yesterday's task was to have off with the old and on with the new (if you don't count the previous 4-5 years I had them fitted to the last car).

Car looks much better now with a few cosmetic mods.

To be fair Scott it's a right ****** gaff just to change a couple of side light bulbs on the A4 - I did mine a couple of months ago and for 8 quids worth of bulbs I think it's the best bangs for buck upgrade.

Its not a easy job really.
This is the second time I've replaced side light bulbs in Audrey since I've owned her.
I don't really want to do it again if it can be helped.
These bulbs are worth it though. so much better than the old ones.

Whats the difficulty fitting sidelights?

Drivers side is a wee bit fiddly due to the airbox, but its perfectly doable. I did mine in about 5 mins while the car was getting MOT'd and the guy noticed one was duff and suggested i might want to fix it before he finished :p

Agree they just pull out and push in 5 min job unless you have the ba9s bulbs in the xenons and the holders have shrunk round the bulb and the glass part of the bulbs snaps off lol

My 3"-3.25" reducer turned up today along with the 3" stainless coupler and 3" 180' degree hose but thats wrong so have got on to the seller to try and resolve the issue as it has 76mm stamped on the part but its only 70mm id !!

Offered up the reducer and its a tight fit but will do the job !!

Ordered my Polytek to do my rear rear diff mount.

Just found out to my expense
If you put the wipers in service mode, lift them of the windscreen then move the car, they reset hit the edge of the bonnet and remove 3cm of paint 😡😡😡

Gutted mate... I did that and cracked my windshield :'(

Oh no, sorry to hear that! I'll bear that in mind as well!

Today I decided to get a quote for my clutch, water pump and cambelt 600!! Quid :0

how odd, mine does the same thing when it hits 3 degrees or less and has done since i've owned it, no fault codes or anything so i just live with it, always off by the time i get going on a morning anyway.
Probably a bit late to answer but the criteria has changed for the MOT, just has to be working and not on during the test. The "procedure" for the ABS light also went out the window

Went to get 4 wheel alignment done at kwik fit bolton but they wanted £85 to adjust the o/s front toe, front camber and o/s rear toe going to see if the garage that did the father in laws lexus rx300 for £30 as they have a 4 wheel alignment that apparently is a hunter !!! If not il just go back to them or ask my boss at work to order a hunter lol !!

I picked up my car from the mot centre, one new tyre and she was a goodun, cluster seems to be ok now so no oil warnings

got the news from MRC that my RS6 with 864Nm of torque and 540HP is ready for collection.....
