Welldone HID's not very "welldone"

i just came to find this thread for an update, and it had only been 1 day... (someone is clearly excited to see a non blown motor *if they arrive) :p

Atleast someones interested haha

I don't see why it would blow the motor tbh, as the product would then be mis sold people would ask for their money back and the company wouldn't still be in operation. That's all I'm going on to give me confidence in the product anyway haha

Yeh i still dont have confidence lol, just hope!

Tho once you have yours and they work, its gonna fuel a new group buy for sure! lol. Also can you possibly take some pics upon recieving the product, like packaging and box opening etc. Probably useful to a few people to see what its like :)

A lot of people have in the past purchased various HID kits and most of them blow the wiper motor. The problem is that the companies who are making them are not making them for a specific model and not necessarily for even any Audi model.

The problem is also that ALL of the kits make you car illegal to use on UK roads and the car only has EU Type Approval if it is fitted with OEM Xenon units. No other units have been tested and approved and EU Type Approval is required under UK Law for any car to be used on UK roads. The latest MOT test is also supposed to check if any Xenon units fitted have the necessary EU Type Approval digits moulded into the glass. The tester should also check for working 'self-levelling' and 'headlamp washers' when xenon headlights are fitted and if not they are not the car should fail.

Do a search on the forum for aftermarket xenons and you will find a lot of information.

I think he knows, but doesn't care. Apparently he needs them or he'll cause an accident on something called a "dark country lane"!

Who'd a thunk they even existed?

as long as he isnt blinding other drivers, why should anyone care if its MOT legal or not?

Theirin lies the problem though JJ, these aftermarket HID kits invariably blind others because the light is scattered in all directions. They're a royal pain in the butt and a pet hate of mine, as I regularly drive on dark country lanes and don't need to be blinded by cars travelling the other way. Flashing the oiks makes no difference either because they're not on main beam.

...and just in case you weren't aware, a requirement of Car Insurance is that you maintain your vehicle in roadworthy condition. These are illegal & as the driver is aware of that, his insurance will be VOID.

My Phillips diamond visions are illegal as the are marked for off road use only. Just like milltek decats but everyone still reccomends them don't they. How about your DPF deletes, bet you'd never inform your insurance of that which would make it "void".

But yes as stated, I don't really care about all this legal/illegal ****e. Until I and every other taxi/boy racer in his civic gets pulled over and told to remove them I won't. If these work then unfortunately you'll be "blinded" even more when everyone from the groupbuy flocks to buy them.

I hope you've declared your Bose sound system, some insurance company's don't cover it because it's not a standard part. Your insurance might be "VOID".

Are you bored of hearing about illegal things yet? I'm bored of writing them, especially when nobody really gives a toss.

anyway, enough of this legal/illegal bs

The box looked very good, one of the most professional HID kits I've seen. Never got a pic of it though. The light output when I initially put them in was so nice, and there is actually a cut off point instead of it throwing light everywhere. This was because the lens on the Audi has a clear outer lens where you can see into the headlight. It's the lenses that you can't see into which have a beam pattern projector on the outer casing which cause the most amount of glare to other people. This is the type that everyone gets blinded by, you'd normally see these in things like corsa's.

I don't have a decat, I don't have a DPF delete (wasn't aware they put them on Petrol engines :p ), my Bose came factory fitted, and none of the above are likely to cause others to have an accident anyway.

I hope you meet a like-minded individual coming the other way one night & you both blind each other.

i did the other night, it was a vw transporter T5, HID's in an extremely high position compared to where I was sat. Yeah it was bright, however I didn't feel the need to flash my lights like an idiot, we passed each other and I went on my merry way without an incident.

Until you come across an a3 with hid's in you cant actually criticize if it's bright and dazzling or not. Your just going by the majority of the other poor light housings.

Anyway, that is it, I don't care what you say, unless you feel the need to come to my house and rip them out of my car I will continue to run a set of these lights for testing puropses when they arrive. I hope it's successful, as it seems to be a sort after thing after 30 people signed upto the group buy. If it's successful I'm sure there will be many many more entertaining threads with people arguing over something that they cannot and will not change.

Check your Insurance Policy: No Testing or Racing...

They've got you over a barrel. :)

Just making sure you know what you're risking. Do what you want, it's your license, car, money, etc.

They'll have him over a barrel if there was an accident to occur at dusk/night and the dazzling headlights on the A3 was brought into questioning. As said previously- it's not keeping the car in a road worthy condition by adding parts that are not fit for road use, which could in turn make your insurance void......all for a mod that's cost less than a tank of fuel....really?

surely you can add self levelers and washers, then were all legal! :):):)

il check the search function

Not strictly true - as you correctly state, there are a lot of illegal vehicles about. I may be in a minority but I do give a toss.

Can't decide on changing my halogen to either os ram night breakers or led's same with my wife's mini, where can I get silver/chrome indicator bulbs from rather than the usual orange

contemplating HID on my A3 as a friend of mine fitted them on his A4 Avant and more recently his new Z4 he doesnt seem to have had problems and he has bought them off Amazon,
as far as being illegal I would rather not as it just causes problems, but as its been mentioned I live down dark country lanes and the last time I got over to allow one of the million cars already blinding people to go by I hit a stone sticking out which took a chunk out of the side wall and a gouge out of my alloy which cost me a tyre and a alloy repair so I dont think the funny banter on being able to see and specsavers is very funny ! but after all that I dont know what lamps I need now as Im confused as hell reading this thread so someone sensibily tell me what I need to light the place up like daylight but legally !

thanks , do they really light it up well

Extreme visions were much better than the standard halogens. I never tried the osram night breakers.

I went to Philips diamond vision which aren't exactly legal but not had any issues with them. Not blinding as they are halogens, and passed all MOTS with flying colours.

If you want amazing lighting go OEM I just don't have the funds, being married in jan and now with a baby on the way.

Full OEM xenons OR Philips extreme vision NOT diamond vision if you want to be absolutely legal.

What he said

thanks , do they really light it up well

Full oem xenons yes, but I hope you've got upto a grand to do it properly. Any halogen bulb, not really. I've seen them all.

Could always get a roof bar full of lights like they have on trucks, but even then I'd have a hid bulb in every lamp.

So how would having equally "blinding" lights have allowed you to see the stone that was sticking out?

If you are 'blinded' by illegal/ill-fitted/selfishly driven car lights then you still don't see the rock sticking out. BUT you do stand an excellent chance of 'blinding' other drivers into having an accident of some sort.

But some think it's ok as long as they have bright lights looking supposedly cool. Blue actually looks so naff, taste is each to their own I suppose.

if you had read my post properly you will see I never mention wanting blinding lights and I also stated I wanted to stay legal I just need something better than the **** poor lamps I have ,
I think you have posted this on the wrong post so perhaps you should get your lights looked at ! also added to this, because I have **** poor lights and the **** I came up behind on his bike this morning in black with no lights on at all down our country lane I nearly killed him . so I obviously stopped and told him the errors of his ways thats why I need better lights !

On my last two cars I had factory fitted HID lights. They were better than the halogens fitted to my current A3, but I would say the A3 Halogens are adequate - if you are seriously having difficulty seeing stuff with these lights then perhaps Specsavers isn't such a daft idea - I have known a number of people who don't take this stuff as seriously as they should, like some people never bother going to the dentist.

I see so many people driving around every day with badly aligned lights (only yesterday I was being tailgated by a bloke in some Jap pickup where it was 100% obvious his n/s headlight bulb had been put in 90 degrees out) and only one light working that I seriously doubt their ability to see.

Whilst the retro-fit HIDs (the ones you fit by changing bulbs and adding ballast but not the headlight units and not adding washers ans auto-levelling) we're discussing here may be antisocial and illegal, the chances of getting pulled by the Police are minimal and in my experience (with legal OEM HIDs) MOT testers can be so ignorant you have no worries. Of course, you can put the legal bulbs back in for the test then change back after which is what people seem to do for illegal number plates.

Delivered and fitted. I'll do a review later on in a new thread and ask politely if people kept opinions about it being "blinding" "illegal" to themselves.

One can only hope. However I don't see the point in starting another thread and having two pages of arguments of how they light everything but what you want up. Surprisingly enough there's a clear cut off point when set correctly.

Surprisingly enough there's a clear cut off point when set correctly.

They will never be setup correctly, hid kits are a menace to the roads, blind oncoming all the time & no doubt cause numerous accidents.

On the note of accidents, your insurance will now probably be completely void, using an illegal illumination kit on the uk roads will most certainly give them the easiest way to deny any claims you may have & if you are involved with another car, you will be fully liable to deal with yourself which could amount to thousands of pounds.

Just telling you as it is, no matter who does or doesnt want to read it.

Basically, your just saying what has been said in every single post. I'm bored of hearing it. Never ha an issue with the Phillips diamond visions which people reccomend on here all the time which are also illegal. Nobody ever gets on their high horse about them though.

You're not getting the point fella, I'm trying to protect you from getting buttfecked by insurance companies & other party should a incident occur.

If you get caught using that kit by insurance company, they will say that's illegal, you didn't advise & they will void your insurance, if you have an accident & someone gets seriously hurt, you're well & truly fecked, possibly hundreds of thousands of pounds, for what, a cheap **** of shxt hid kit, it really is not worth it.

Do as you like & you maybe lucky & not have an issue, but, there is always the possibility & should it happen, you could be paying that of for rest of your life.

Legality aside, is there a case where an insurance company didn't pay out due to a HID kit?

I've never heard of any, id say probably every 1 in 10 cars i pass round here at night has a hid kit. even old people in a honda crv had one the other night.
