Detailing Routine

I'm looking for some advice/guidance

I want to keep the car looking its best and have several products already, but I just need to know I'm doing it correctly


1. Two bucket wash (only just started doing this)
2. Clay (once or twice a year)
3. Polish (need recommendations) Auto Glym SRP at the moment
4. Wax (Meguiars deep crystal 3 step)
5. sealer (I'm using Dodo tropical rainforest)

Is this correct? have I missed anything?

Yes that looks correct but remember Sealant first then Wax....

What about a quick protector?
I only have had the car a week so looking for something to see winter out

Collinite 476 Doublecoat wax or 845 Liquid insulator wax will see you through winter.

What do you mean by quick protector Phil? Do you mean a quick detailer....if so there are so many out there at the moment to choose from. As you are aware I am an Angelwax stockist and approved user and their Quick Detailer (QED) won the Auto Express Best Detailer 2013 award. Great value for money and IMO one of the best detailers on the market. £6 for a 500ml bottle.

As Mark_S3 stated use the sealant before the wax but you dont necessarily have to use sealant if you dont want to or if you find it a pain to work with. I very rarely use sealants as I prefer using waxes. The quick detailer can be spritzed and buffed off over the wax.

What I'm looking for is some sort of quick protector. I only got the car last week and I have noticed that the water doesn't bead and it doesn't have that deep shine I got with my old black car. (this is my first non black car in 10 years)

In the new year I want to learn how to detail it to a very high standard using good quality products and the proper method. But as the weather has now changed I cant see me spending lots of time on it now.

I also want some type of protection for my Alloy wheels before winter sets in.

Perhaps someone could organise a detailing meet where advice could be given and product purchased?

Angel Wax Bilberry is top stuff for cleaning the alloys.
QED for a quick spritz.

Maybe consider a DA polisher for the summer next year, unless you have access to a garage or the likes.

I already have bilberry wheel cleaner ;-)
I wouldn't know here to start with a DA polisher, I have seen lots of different product to use with one but am not sure what to get/ do

You need to refine the paint further.

Is it brand new? I ****** hate clay, **** stuff.

A pre wax cleaner like Dr Beasleys or Cherry Glaze would be a better shout than polishing. Polishing is very old fashioned

What I'm looking for is some sort of quick protector.

Gtechniq C2V3 is perfect for this.

Use it like a quick detailer (diluted) yet you add a sealant every time.

Hydro2 100ml- Spray & Rinse Coating - CarPro UK

Just used it for the first time at the weekend putting some protection down on the RS6.... it shouldn't work... I can't believe it works, but it's great! :lol:

and this is coming from a true wax lover.....

Snowfoam is a must mate before every cleaning sequense )!! and use a decent drying towel wooly mamooth the best if you want to spend £££s

I have been talking to chemical manufacturers recently about Snowfoam and the likes and they have stated that it is a "Craze" "Fad" or whatever you like to call it and doesnt do any good!! What do you all think?

I would rather listen to the pro detailers mate i know its a great de contamination product to get rid of nasty crap on paintwork before starting cleaning.i use it every time why would you not use something which helps the process?:0

I find a snowfoam treatment releases much more crud from the paintwork when rinsed with the pressure washer before hand washing. I only occasionally use snowfoam in the summer, but always use it in the winter when the car gets dirty in the space of a couple of days.

I dont know who told you that it was merely a "craze" as all professional detailers I have ever encountered use snowfoam and I have always found that it is very effective at decontaminating the car and lets face it, it is the best part of detailing haha apart from when you are finished and get to admire the results!

Bit late to this but:-

1) can I ask WHY you list the Auto Glymm srp?, are you using this in an attempt to remove defects/swirls/scratches?, or are you using it as a form of "protection"??

2) definitely get yourself a foam lance!

3) do both your wash buckets have grit guards in them?

4) what sequence would you clean and protect your car in?, just curious?

5) Do you use a wash mitt or sponge, how do you dry the car off after?, as an example i dry 99% of my car off without ever physically touching the paintwork/car at all!

I could keep going but I won't, leave it at that for now,
